NTSB update for Autopilot has me looking for an anti-nag device

This does not surprise me as resting your hand on the top does not apply any rotational pressure. But, I was playing with this issue the other day and tried something new. I crossed one leg over the other to the point where the wheel was touching my leg. The normal lane adjustments by the car...

Is there any way to turn on 'Minimal Lane Changes for the Current Drive' without going into the settings (Model S/X)?

I do not have an S but as a test, go into the menu and put the car into auto steer mode, that is do not run the car with FSD. Now try engaging auto steer and see if the right scroll button moving it left or right changes your follow distance.

Sentry Mode - Didn't Record Getting Rear Ended

Sentry is not enabled unless the car is parked and you have enabled Sentry Mode. You need to review Dashcam mode, from the manual: Enable Dashcam by touching Controls > Dashcam. Dashcam allows you to choose how and when footage is saved. You can choose between: Auto: Dashcam automatically...

Also, unless the other tires were still fairly new, replacing only one tire can causes problems, which is why it is not recommended.

One thing that makes me uncomfortable with FSD or autopilot

Turn on your cameras when driving and you will see it is. Note that not everyone is tricked by this illusion since over time we automatically adjust. Note also that the new software does not always keep the car centered for a variety of reasons, such as when passing cars it moves off-center away...

    Long term parking

No reason to check the app at all, but if you must go ahead. Also no need to reboot the car. With the items you noted switched off you will only lose about 1% / week, so relax. Personally, I would not bother to turn Sentry on and off at night as that will cost you about 3% / day, or more if...

No dash cam footage recorded when accident occurs!

Is this meant for me? I understand very well how the DashCam system works.
  11. ATPMSD

No dash cam footage recorded when accident occurs!

You have to open the DashCam console, if it is there it will be at the top. Disagree, I have in fact done this. In fairness I did this when I owned a Model S, so it may no longer be an option. In any case, my advice is only for the OP to have a look. If it is there, great! If not nothing is lost.

Should I order the chargers separate from the car?

A couple of points: They are not called Chargers, they are Connectors You did not indicate if you are talking about the Mobile Connector or the Wall connector In the case of the wall connector you will want to get it before the car so it can be installed and ready to use when the car shows...

No dash cam footage recorded when accident occurs!

It may in fact be there, just not on the SD card. If the car detects an accident it can save the video to internal memory instead of the SD card. Insert the SD card and with the car in park open the DashCam console. Look at the top (I believe) and note if there is an entry with a download icon...

400GB music scanning speed too slow

Make sure you are using the Blue USB port as this is a USB 3.0 port I would try checking the drive on your computer. Maybe it needs to be defragged or has bad sectors that need to be addressed. In the end, 30,000 mp3 files may just be too much.

First make sure the car is unlocked when you attempt to insert it, you should also see a white Tesla logo when the charge port door is open. My Q

Point to consider, have you ever noticed when you tell the garage to close it pauses for about 7-seconds while it flashes a white light and makes a loud sound (if you have not removed the speaker) before it initiates a door close? Is it really super dangerous to go over the 120pound weight limit of the stock tow hitch? I’m about 30-50 pounds over.

All I can say is anything over 120 lb. exceeds spec but as with all things, your car your choice. I do like the straps @rhumbliner is using and if I were going to exceed the 120 lb. limit I would give those a try. But I would add padding where the straps cross the trunk to avoid scratches (if...

Is it really super dangerous to go over the 120pound weight limit of the stock tow hitch? I’m about 30-50 pounds over.

This issue is this is not a vertical weight, it is a weight applied at a distance making it a rotational weight e.g. torque. As @DCGOO noted, this is made much worse by any bump in the road. Image, if you will, a bar extenting from the hitch out to say 10 feet, if then stood on that bar you...

4/3 MC Cable for the Charger

4/3 MC Cable for the Charger

Unless this has changed (I went looking for the source but cannot find it, so perhaps this is no longer applicable), the connections in the wall connector are sized for a maximum of #6 wire, so #4 wire will be too large. Thus, you would need to use a bridge in which you connect #4 wire to one...

Car location on Map is off by few meters

With four satellites the system can determine a 3-D position, if you have only three you get a 2-D fix which really only works if you know your altitude, this can be used by boats at Sea Level, for example. In all cases the accuracy of the position requires the satellites be in good positions...
  29. ATPMSD

Car location on Map is off by few meters

I think you missed the point, 6 sats does not guarantee good accuracy since geometry is key, so it very well could be a visibility issue. As to different protocols, that does not matter to the point I was making.
  30. ATPMSD

Car location on Map is off by few meters

GNSS accuracy is 2 to 10 meters Having 6 sats does not help if the geometry is poor. You need sat locks from different directions. Could also be seeing signal bounces from the buildings which degrades accuracy.

4/3 MC Cable for the Charger

Pretty sure (?) 6/3 or 6/2 MC is limited to 55-amps in a home so it cannot be used for a wall connector if you want to get the full 48-amps out of the wall connector as it needs wire rated at 60-amps. And the problem with #4 wire is the maximum size wire for the connection to the wall connector...

    FSD now $8,000. Who's buying?

I think a lot of people do not appreciate FSD is an evolving solution, and a very different one at that. And that is a good reason to buy EAP. In my experience, however, IMHO the car does a poor job in handing interchanges and then merging into traffic, unless the interchange is rather basic and traffic is light. Here is Atlanta I found those features useless.

Almost all of them do, they want to earn your business when it is time to replace tires. If this is your first rotation it is also a good idea to get the tires balanced. They will charge you for that, but then future balancing is free! BTW, please don’t post the same question in multiple forums.
