Phantom breaking in Autopilot (Model 3 2021)

I have 18,000 miles on my 2021 M3LR and never had brake checking. And this is the first I have heard it on here but anything is possible... As novox77 said, just press the accelerator and go on. I simply drive with my foot resting on the pedal except when other vehicles are around then I know...

Reporting FSD Feedback - do you always send email or just "press the button"?

After hitting the button 100-150 times in one week, yeah no emails for specific situations from me. I would hope the button is like using the Dashcam where it marks video before and after the event to they can see it all. I am sure they are focusing on the obvious so with video before and...

Charge to 100% break it down for me

Actually the regen starts between 97% and 98% but is limited until you get to 95%...at least in my 2021 M3LR. And yes 100% gives almost no regen so driving the car is definitely different :)

    100% Charging

Same thing here except my 180 mile commute is 5 days a week and the only driving my 2021 M3LR sees. I charge to 95% to 97% every day and get back home with 18% to 22% depending on the Texas winds. I want some cushion above 10% so I would rather overcharge than run short with no Superchargers...

Fix for Broken FSD Beta 10.3

What do you mean "would engage"? It can't if you turn it off....
  7. T

I still have FSD Beta 10.3

I did this too in my testing and turning off FSD does nothing, you have to do the camera calibration after turning it off to get rid of FCW.

Got 2021.36.5.2 But Now 2021.36.5.1 is Downloading

Worked for me too, no more issues and since I did a camera calibration with those on before driving....had to redo camera calibration with those off.

I still have FSD Beta 10.3

2021 M3LR Vision still on 10.3 and I turned off FSD Beta and Visualization, then did a camera calibration to get rid of all the FCW and emergency braking issues....and yes all those features on still on. Unfortunately/fortunately it is just like pre-10.3 with phantom braking but it is drivable...

Fix for Broken FSD Beta 10.3

Turn FSD Beta and Visualization off then do the camera calibration, FCW are all gone in my case.

Fix to Stay on 2021.36.5.2 without Losing Beta Program Access

And the issue is on the highway...seems the city stack is working fine for 10.3, just don't use the highway or keep your foot on the accelerator to avoid dangerous braking.
  12. T

Fix to Stay on 2021.36.5.2 without Losing Beta Program Access

Source? uh, well it is what I did twice in my car to get rid of all the FCW crap and be 100% like pre-10.3
  13. T

Fix to Stay on 2021.36.5.2 without Losing Beta Program Access

What? Did I say I was magically fixing the root cause? DUH Simply follow the procedure that I did twice to prove that it works and you HAVE ZERO issues from 10.3....my car is driving 100% like it was pre-10.3 but please leave yours in the garage.

Fix to Stay on 2021.36.5.2 without Losing Beta Program Access

Procedure to "fix" 10.3 aka 2021.36.5.2 without going to 2021.36.5.1 (I wasn't in the beta for 10.2): 1. Turn off FSD Beta 2. Turn off Expanded FSD Visualization Preview 3. Turn off Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control - this may not be necessary but I wasn't using this before 10.3 4. Start a...

Fix for Broken FSD Beta 10.3

I will probably post a new thread as well but here is the procedure to "fix" 10.3 aka 2021.36.5.2 without going to 2021.36.5.1 (I wasn't in the beta for 10.2): 1. Turn off FSD Beta 2. 17. T

Got 2021.36.5.2 But Now 2021.36.5.1 is Downloading

Like everyone else, I had 36.5.2 this morning and installed over the app....out of town. Then I see the downgrade in the app before getting home and didn't click install. Now that I am home 2 hours later, I don't get the option for 36.5.1 Now I am liking the FSD Beta 10.3 if it works....but...

    2021 Phantom breaking override?

Well I have reduced PB by calibrating the camera in my normal driving environment, which for me is very empty roads. It no longer goes crazy with vehicles near as my original calibration was in Ft. Worth. I have done probably 10 calibrations now with little change so it isn't that some magic...

    Unhappy with phantom braking

It is a depth perception issue. The car sees something and can't determine the distance so the algorithms tilt towards safety. I am a programmer and I understand the reasoning but I sure hope V10 fixes it or there may be a 2021 M3LR w/12,000 miles for sale very soon. If you recalibrate your...

Phantom Braking theory...need help to test this out

Once a week.....geesh I was getting 400 a week before camera calibration on empty highways that has gotten it down to 100 a week. I would give my left arm for once a week............ The vehicle behind is not the issue but what it sees ahead of you. The PB can happen on a totally empty road...

    2021 Phantom breaking override?

I drive 150 miles/day on 4 lane freeways and have ~100 PB incidents per week. These incidents are 99% when on a straight road with vehicles far in the distance and going over small rolling hills. And before my recent camera calibration I was getting ~400 incidents/week. You can change the PB...

    Unhappy with phantom braking

The camera calibration was done on mostly empty 2 and 4 lane highways with a small stint in town. Now my phantom braking is 3-5 times per 85 miles whereas it was nearly every mile or two on empty roads...usually 20-30 per 85 miles. So for those with frequent phantom braking, I HIGHLY recommend...
  25. T

    Unhappy with phantom braking

I wanted to follow up with some more testing. Again, I drive the exact same highway every day to work and back for about 75 each way. Today on the way home I had the chance to follow a couple vehicles for the first 50 miles. I had ZERO phantom braking incidents whereas I get at least 1 every...

    Unhappy with phantom braking

I got my new M3LR on June 12, 2021 and now have almost 10,000 miles on it where 90% are highway. During this time it has become obvious when the phantom braking is occurring since I drive on the exact same road every day. Day or night doesn't matter but the major factor is if there are other...

    Phantom Braking Discussion

Well I know my M3LR sees the signs because if I am passing a vehicle on the left and it can't see the sign, then it won't change the speed limit. And this is on a 4 lane road that I drive every single day that it normally changes speed limits just fine. No system or even human is perfect in...

    Phantom Braking Discussion

Most exit ramps and curves are not speed limits but yellow suggested speed signs. My M3LR recognizes every single speed limit it can see...when not blocked by a vehicle.
  32. T

    Phantom Braking Discussion

I will have to try that out, thanks for the suggestion. For the most part, my phantom braking is when I am alone on the road. When I am in traffic it rarely has an issue...unfortunately 90% of my drive is very lonely.
  33. T

    Phantom Braking Discussion

Well I honked my horn 5 times today for significant phantom braking (3 times I didn't honk with vehicles next to me). After looking at the USB Drive and Dashcam app, nothing saved. And yes I triple checked before driving that it is set to record on honking...and still is set to record. The...

    Phantom Braking Discussion

I can also confirm it is much better with 18.10 from 18.3 I drive the same 175 miles every day of the week and get 1-2 hard phantom brakes and 15-20 light ones each day before 18.10 Now it is roughly 1/4th that so much improved but far from acceptable. Radar on my Corolla has ZERO issues for...

Discussion: Tesla Vision system for Model 3/Y

Discussion: Tesla Vision system for Model 3/Y

I think it is from driving conditions. Today in the rain of all things, the phantom braking went from 30+ times to about 10. And coming home in the nice daylight it had more issues than in the dark rain, go figure....

Discussion: Tesla Vision system for Model 3/Y

I get a message on my 2 week old M3LR that says I can't turn off the auto wipers. Maybe it was just on NoA and not AP, or that I am on 18.2 software.

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Considering the recommended battery charging is 90% to 10% (lose 20%) and rated driving range is 55 MPH (lose 15-20%, your 37% "loss" is in the ballpark of normal from all the info I have read and experienced.

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Check out this thread: How I Recovered Half of my Battery's Lost Capacity From what I gather, it is likely a calibration issue and not a pure loss of charging capacity. But the other part I have read says significant loss can come from always charging over 90%.

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

Same results here. I think most people that have little issue are the ones not on the open highway by themselves. For me it works so much better with other traffic around and thus very little phantom braking. I suggest you try TACC without AS as the AS for me has nothing to do with the...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Yes ABRP shows that I can make it if I can really get the rated 1.3kW out of the 120V charging. I feel better looking at the 120V charging at work as that won't cost a thing to implement. I also figure no more than it gets below 20F here, that charging to 100% for that small amount of time is...

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

I wish...it doesn't pick up little critters or large chunks of tire in the road. Being a programmer and troubleshooter, I have been going through a lot of different settings and scenarios the past two weeks to try and see a pattern in the algorithm problem, but nothing consistent yet.

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Without spending significant money, 120V is all I get at work. And yes the winter, depending on the wind, will cause me to spend some time going 1.25 hours out of my way to go home.

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

Yeah if I let it auto-lane change then my car would be swerving between both lanes constantly...well not quite that bad but it would be changing every 1-2 minutes. The issues with Tesla Vision are not just on NoA but straight up TACC does plenty of slowdowns, the NoA lane change just comes up...
  48. T

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

Oh it certainly isn't being too aggressive. The Tesla Vision is detecting something in the road but never shows it on the display. A normal NoA lane change request happens well after the vehicle shows on the display. The phantom braking happens when just using Autosteer but a lot more...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

There is nowhere to charge. My home and work are exactly between 2 Superchargers. It is an extra hour of driving to go charge for 5 minutes at a Supercharger. I know it isn't ideal for the battery but it is going to be used a lot more than most I have heard here....

2021.4.18.3 Many more false alarms, some positives

Wishing my car would go from 4.18.2 to 4.18.3....the phantom braking is soooo annoying and even a couple very unsafe braking instances.
