People who don't buy because of "charging time"

On paper, it can do 615 miles on a tank. That's a 24.6 gallon tank and 25 mpg highway. In reality, it's more like 510 because I'm not running the tank down to nothing and I'm usually getting 23 mph highway. But yeah, 500 miles easy if you're cruising at typical highway speeds. My Audi can do...

People who don't buy because of "charging time"

Absolutely. Consider myself a road warrior. It's not as much about the drive itself as it is getting to the destination. Scenic routes? Nope. Don't care. Get on a highway and make time. I try to average 80 mph when I can. New York to Florida, we've done in 16 hours, which was covering about...

People who don't buy because of "charging time"

Denied my fact and then asked if I could do better. LOL, you're funny. Let me put it to you this way: I have an Audi and Jeep that are both capable of more than 500 miles on a tank. And stopping for gas can be a 5-minute stop if I want it to be. So you asked if I can do better than your...

People who don't buy because of "charging time"

It depends. It's not often the same, but there are a couple of road trips that we make that are the same every year. We own multiple vehicles.

People who don't buy because of "charging time"

I've considered going electric, but still haven't made the move yet. Why? Well, I prefer road trips over flying and road trips are still much faster and convenient in gas cars. That's an undeniable fact. Once electric technology improves to the point that it's competitive in that regard, I'll...

Drove into the garage with my bike on the roof rack...tell me how the damage looks (mainly to my wallet)

Exactly. Plus, it's much easier to use since the bike(s) are just a couple of feet off the ground.

Looks like they are removing stalks from the 3/Y

Just wait until Tesla gets rid of power window buttons in favor of voice control instead. I can see it now....."driver's window down 37%" Yes, that's ridiculous, but where does it all end? Or does it?

Garage Flooring Tiles - Video + Photos

There are different types of these tiles. If you get the ones the ones that allow water to drain through them (Race Deck calls them Free-Flow), then there will never be any issues with mold because the water drains right through them and if you garage is pitched slightly like mine, the water...

Man fatally shot during altercation at Tesla charging station

Inside the car or outside doesn't mean anything when a guy with a gun approaches you with bad intentions. You're really no safer inside the car UNLESS you can use the car to escape. And a plugged in car cannot be driven away. That's a main point here. Your primary means of escape in an EV is...

Man fatally shot during altercation at Tesla charging station

Yup, I've seen that too. So what people do is wedge their gas cap into the handle to keep it open. And if they have a capless filler neck, they'll find something else to stick in there instead.

Man fatally shot during altercation at Tesla charging station

So a couple of things.....here in NJ, there's no self-serve gas stations. 100% of them are full service. So at least here, you are always sitting in your car while it's refueling. But I lived my entire life in NY (where there are self-serve gas stations) until a few years ago and I can tell you...

Man fatally shot during altercation at Tesla charging station

A little sideways logic here, but I've always thought that supercharger locations are a perfect opportunity for criminals to exploit victims. Think about it.....pull in to charge at an otherwise empty charging location and there's not many people around. The car is attached to the charger via...

    Tesla readies revamped Model 3

Not really....at least when it comes to batteries for EVs. I work in a related industry and I can tell you that we have seen an intense increase in the number of battery development companies that have emerged because of the recent shift due to electric vehicles. There are also a bunch of...

Rivian.....that's exactly why I'm so interested in an R1S. I like somewhat boxy SUVs with good ground clearances.

    Tesla readies revamped Model 3

That is weird.....are you a street racer? Stoplight racer? Why would you care if you had the fastest version of the car you've got? And why would it stop there? There will always be faster cars out there, no matter what you drive. And in the world of ICE, if you want to make your car faster...

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

The market is pretty strong for those cars. I'm sure you'll get a decent price for it as long as it's in somewhat decent condition, which it appears to be.

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

Sorry, didn't even watch them. Why? Because anyone can find videos and post them to support their view. Do you want me to find one of an RS3 destroying a M3P? I can if you want, but again, what's the point? Anyway, I know what the RS3 runs stock and modified. I have friends that have those...

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

Terrific. You're just helping me prove my point. Here's what I can tell you from that video: 1. The Audi driver was sleeping at the light. Reaction time proves it and that's the only reason he lost the race. 2. The Audi is indeed tuned. That's evident by the trap speed on the time slip. 3. The...

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

Probably because the 6-speed manual transmission has been the most common number of forward gears now for the last 25 years. The last 5-speed manual I owned was a '99 BMW M3. All since then have been 6 speeds.

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

I have absolutely no evidence of any kind, but my guess is that Tesla would not redesign the front bumper to be less aerodynamic than the previous version. I mean, how many times have you read where a manufacturer brags about their new design having a 0.28 coefficient of drag, which is down from...

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

I really like the new headlight design. It's a big improvement over the current design. I hope they do something similar to the taillights, as the current car already looks like it's about two normal car generations behind. Any update for Tesla is huge since they aren't exactly quick to update...

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

So I'm guessing you're about 70 years old or older, right? I mean, based off of 50 years of owning cars. So it's not surprising that someone your age wouldn't miss shifting. I'll probably be more ready for a lounge chair myself when I'm 70 years old.....no more shifting necessary :p
  25. White Shadow

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

Stock, they run about 3.4 seconds 0-60 and they still run 11's in the quarter mile, bone stock. That's pretty close to the M3P. With nothing but a tune, they are much quicker. Stage 1 tuned, they can run 10s and that's with the stock turbo. But anyway, I was again talking about the 60' times...

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

Faster off the line? Well, I told you what mine runs. Keep in mind it's modified, so it's quite a bit quicker than an unmodified car. As far as being faster than a M3P, not really. They both run very similar times off the line. A stock Audi RS3 is very similar in performance. That's the beauty...

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

Oh boy......let me explain. A short time when drag racing is the time it takes the vehicle to move 60 feet. So we're talking about getting to 60 feet in 1.7 seconds. This is a data point on a drag racing timeslip. From what I've seen, the Model 3 Performance normally does around 1.7 or 1.8...

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

Nice. I used to have the same exact car. And before that, I had a 1999 2-door E36 M3, manual transmission, silver, Contour II wheels with the factory wing. Absolutely loved that car and wish I still had it today.

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

You clearly have no clue. Do you realize that 1.7 short times aren't even all that fast? There's a list of 2.0 Audis on the forums that pull 1.7 all day long. And something like the Audi RS3 or TTRS can do 1.7 bone stock all day every day. Modified, those cars are doing 1.4 & 1.5 short times. I...

Anyone purchase an ICE after your Model 3?

Definitely a fun car with a manual transmission....but you'll still be above legal speed limits after a few seconds of wide open throttle. For a Miata, the ND is pretty quick. I believe they're even faster than the old turbocharged Mazdaspeed versions of the Miata.

Finally got to drive one. It's awesome.

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

Audi A5. 2.0T engine. 1.7 short times aren't difficult for an AWD car. I used to get the same times in an old Eagle Talon, also with a 2.0T engine and AWD.

I didn't think I'd have to explain this, but I was talking about in use for transportation on a large scale. 36. White Shadow

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

Not at all....I couldn't care less if anyone hates or loves manual transmission cars, ICE cars, etc... The only thing that matters to me is what I like or don't like. That said, when I see misinformation being stated/spread, I'll correct it. No hard feelings at all though...

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

Yup, nailed it. Haters will always be haters. I just find it amusing that there are haters on every side. Lots of ICE people hate EVs. And lots of EV people hate ICE and more specifically manual transmissions. Me? I like them all and I don't really care what anyone else thinks. So bring on the...

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

Have you ever drag raced a car at a track? It's not hard to press the gas to get your desired RPM. And if you have launch control, it's beyond easy. 20 times out of 20 tries is all I need to do to say it's 100% repeatable. AWD takes the traction variable out of the equation. I could go to a...
  39. White Shadow

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

I can repeat it every single time. It's an AWD car. Hold the RPM and launch....zero wheel spin. 1.7 short times all day long. I have probably 20 time slips with 1.7 short times, all within a few thousands of a seconds of each other. And it's not slower than a DSG/dual clutch. The car was made...

Prediction: Coal has fallen. Nuclear is next then Oil.

Model S pales in comparison to most luxury cars. I'd even go as far to say that the Model S isn't a luxury car at all. It may be priced like one, but how does it compare to legacy automaker's luxury cars? It really doesn't compare.
  41. White Shadow

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

Slow at start? Hmm...not so much. I can do 1.7 seconds 60' times in my manual transmission quattro Audi. That's fairly quick off the line.
  42. White Shadow

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

Being necessary and being fun aren't always mutually exclusive. Something can be necessary and be fun. And don't look now, but not just manual transmission using gears and/or gearing. There are plenty 8-, 9-, and even 10-speed automatic transmission vehicles all over the roads. So you point...
  43. White Shadow

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

LOL....engines idle speed is approximately 800 - 850 RMP. There's no situation where an ICE would be at 50 RPM.
  44. White Shadow

Prediction: Coal has fallen. Nuclear is next then Oil.

Well, I guess that settles it. You found a chart that shows 100% EV new car sales by 2035, so I guess that proves it. LOL But hey, your very own graph shows 50% just before 2025, so don't shortchange yourself. 🤣
  45. White Shadow

Prediction: Coal has fallen. Nuclear is next then Oil.

Not just financial sense. Most of the stuff I mentioned isn't yet possible to swap to an electric version. Again, personal transportation is just a small part of overall oil usage globally.
  46. White Shadow

Prediction: Coal has fallen. Nuclear is next then Oil.

You are out of your mind. There's no way. Maybe 20% by 2026. How do you think we'll get to 50% in three years? More importantly, are you talking U.S. sales or global sales? Because U.S. EV sales will lag behind global EV sales as a percentage.
  47. White Shadow

Prediction: Coal has fallen. Nuclear is next then Oil.

So I have a Jeep that's now four years old. At what point would it make financial sense for me to purchase a replacement EV for it, considering that the only costs incurred at this point are fuel and maintenance costs? If I was going strictly by the numbers, I'd think that keeping and...
  48. White Shadow

Prediction: Coal has fallen. Nuclear is next then Oil.

Maybe we see EVs reach 50% of new car sales in a decade or so if we're lucky. That remains to be seen. I do think the market will continue to grow fairly quickly, as long as infrastructure keeps improving and the battery technology also keeps improving. But like I said, personal transportation...

Prediction: Coal has fallen. Nuclear is next then Oil.

Here's something to ponder......The U.S. still have tanks (M60) presently in operation since 1959. And we're talking the most powerful military with the highest budget on the planet. The MiG-21 fighter jet is still widely used by several different countries and that's been around since...
