Charge Port opens in Car Wash. Anyone have this happen?

Referring to my post above about car wash mode free roll being unreliable, I have been using car wash mode since then without problem. Probably 20 times. I figured maybe it was user error before. But then it happened again today, and I’m positive I did everything correctly as I am quite...

2021 MYLR Dual Motor: grinding/squeal when shifting into Part

Update: The service center fixed the parking brake noise by replacing one of the rear brake calipers (lefthand caliper, in my case). Warranty covered, no cost. We shall see if the fix lasts. In case this is helpful for anyone who has this problem in the future, here is what my invoice said...

2021 MYLR Dual Motor: grinding/squeal when shifting into Part

I understand the parking brake uses a screw that turns to lock the rear brake(?) It sounds like the normal screw spinning sound, but one day it was suddenly much louder. Not a gradual increase. And no sound when pressing brake pedal while driving. So I don’t think it is brake fluid related, but...

2021 MYLR Dual Motor: grinding/squeal when shifting into Part

Mine suddenly started getting noisy a couple of months ago. it always makes some noise, that is normal. But it is very loud now, enough to turn heads of passersby. I have a service appointment soon. Hopefully they will take it seriously.

2021 MYLR Dual Motor: grinding/squeal when shifting into Part

Did you ever get this permanently fixed? I’m having a similar problem, my rear brakes make a loud screeching noise whenever I shift in the park and again when they release shifting into drive.

New Model Y interior smells like chemicals/coolant/paint when parked for awhile

Change the air filters. The carbon in the filters can take on a sweet paint-like chemical smell as they age.

    Open door, alarm goes off

You said this only happens at home. I vaguely recall a discussion in which this was found to happen after using summon. And this has happened to me back when I owned a S. Not sure if it’s still an issue. Are you using summon when parking in the garage?

MyQ Connected Garage - Opens, but won't close garage doors

Yes I’ve used the myQ app on my phone. It also causes the opener to flash the lights and beep, but that is as designed. It is not supposed to do that from a Tesla. I think it depends how far from my garage door I am when my car sends the close command. If I back out of the garage reeeeaalllly...

MyQ Connected Garage - Opens, but won't close garage doors

I have a Chamberlain garage door opener with built-in Wi-Fi and myQ functionality. I also have strong Wi-Fi in and near my garage. My opener has built-in lighting (no bulbs to mess with). So everything is myQ compatible. Yet the Tesla myQ interface still doesn’t close the garage door reliably...

My Model Y smells, does it happen to yours?

Solved! … I think. As I stated in my previous posts, I removed the interior cabin filters. I then cleaned the evaporator coils, and together this seemed to remove the smell for the last week or two. But then it rained a lot today and the vinegar/wet feet smell was strong without recirculate...

My Model Y smells, does it happen to yours?

That’s a good point about recirculation. Although I pulled out the filters shortly after my last post, and they looked perfectly clean after one year. So they probably aren’t filtering much, at least under the conditions that I drive. While the filters themselves had no discernible smell and...

My Model Y smells, does it happen to yours?

This just occurred to me… since I have a HEPA filter in the frunk, is there any reason why I shouldn’t just remove the interior cabin filters altogether? What are they protecting against? Are they needed?

My Model Y smells, does it happen to yours?

Ok, cleaner and cabin filters on order…

My Model Y smells, does it happen to yours?

Thanks, all. Good advice. I’m starting to suspect a refrigerant leak. While my AC works fine, I’ve read that a paint smell might indicate a leak. Perhaps there could be a leak small enough to not noticeably affect AC but still be detectable by smell.

My Model Y smells, does it happen to yours?

Update per my previous concerns about HVAC smell: I’ve had my 2022 Y LR a little over a year, and it now has the smell. and it’s getting pretty bad. I always run the HVAC in auto mode. I found that running the HVAC five minutes before entering the car each time would generally clear the smell...

Charge Port opens in Car Wash. Anyone have this happen?

It worked for me several times, until it didn’t. I was positioned in the wash and put it in free roll mode, and while waiting for the rollers to start pushing my car, it went back to drive/hold or park (not sure which) without warning. Anyway, the rollers starting going under my wheels and...

Charge Port opens in Car Wash. Anyone have this happen?

I’ve had similar problems as you with car wash mode. It’s unreliable. I’ll have to experiment with your method, thanks for the tip. I didn’t realize simply putting it in neutral would disable the charge port and wipers.

Agreed. And I asked them to review the log remotely but they said I needed to come in to the service center.

    Could not shift into drive

After I initiated a service appointment, the service center asked me to bring my car in to inspect in person. They were pretty responsive. They wrote “replace accelerator pedal” in the work order, and through messaging they confirmed that was probably not the issue and simply wrote that as a...

    Could not shift into drive

Yeah, my understanding is all of the unintended acceleration events have been found to be pedal misapplication. Can happen to the best of us in a panic situation. In this case, my car was in park and didn’t move, obviously. I repeated the shift-out-of-park process multiple times, with plenty of...

    Could not shift into drive

Today while in Park, I pressed the brake and pushed the stalk down to Drive. I received an error DI_a189 “Cannot shift gears - Accelerator pedal is pressed.” I looked down and confirmed that my foot was firmly on the brake (and only the brake). Tried again with the same error. Then tried pushing...

    FSD Beta v11.x

I’m on regular 2023.12.9, with an FSD subscription that I just signed up for a few days ago. Does this new development mean I should expect the FSD beta switch to no longer be grayed-out and selectable soon?

Remote set for AC front and rear

Sorry about that. I just tested it and you’re right, Camp Mode does not turn on the rear blower. Dog Mode does, but that might be embarrassing for your passengers, with a big screen showing a wagging dog and informing everybody that their owner will be right back!

    High Frequency Noise/Hum-New Model Y

I also have a visibly misplaced perimeter seal. I have an appointment next week at the service center. I just now stuffed a foam block for a window AC unit in the gap where the seal is misplaced (perfect fit) and the high pitched noise is gone! What a relief. I am probably going to cancel my...

Texas Tinting - 5” on Windshield?

Re the windshield, this is a common law in many states, mine included. Re the bonus question, my understanding is that the second row window factory tinting (and rear hatch window) is for looks only and does not reject infrared (heat). Unlike the glass roof that does. So if you want to cut down...

Volume Turning Itself Down at Certain Levels iPhone Spotify App via Bluetooth to Tesla

Perhaps I don’t play music loud enough, but I have my iOS BT device type set as “speaker” and don’t have this issue. I see the OP set their device type as “car stereo.” Which makes sense, but maybe try “speaker.”

    High Frequency Noise/Hum-New Model Y

That’s great they fixed the noise. Never seen an auto dimming mirror do that. They have a liquid crystal layer in them, and it look like it has an internal leak or something. I’m sure they’ll replace it under warranty. I see you indicated they are sending mobile service. At least you won’t have...

I forgot to mention… I was able to touch that part of the seal and move it around lightly, and that portion of the seal was definitely just floating there, not connected to anything.

    High Frequency Noise/Hum-New Model Y

This forum has been so helpful. I just picked up a new Y LR last weekend. As soon as I drove off the lot I noticed the loud dental drill sound from the back, starting around 40mph. The sound persists even at light throttle and light regen. I have driven every model of Tesla, and this was not...

Thank you @jcanoe that is a very helpful summary. Sounds like things have improved and it is manageable.

My Model Y smells, does it happen to yours?

I thought it was a widespread problem, since I have seen so many posts and YouTube videos about it. Perhaps a bad conclusion. Maybe it is simply a case of bias which is common in these types of forums - more people posting about problems than those who post that everything is fine?

My Model Y smells, does it happen to yours?

I am scheduled for delivery of a new Y LR in a couple of weeks. I have read how so many Y and 3 owners have experienced the smelly AC problem. Some have it worse than others, and some have seemingly fixed it (everyone has a different fix). One thing that hasn’t been clear to me is whether this...

Tesla power shutdown and fire. How to get kids out of back seats?

I agree that it is utter stupidity for Tesla to provide a separate floor pull to manually open the rear doors. Nobody will remember this in a panic unless they have been repeatedly emergency trained. I’m surprised it meets NHTSA. That said, I added plastic cable ties to the floor pulls so that...

What do if I need new battery in my model S

I’ve seen others say this as well, but according to Tesla’s parts warranty, replacement batteries are warrantied for 4 years or 50k miles when replaced after the original warranty. Unless I’m missing something, I don’t see anything differentiating between new and reman. When replaced during the...

Assist for low brake performance activated

I had the same experience as the OP. I was probably going around 45 mph when (I kid you not) an albino peacock walked out on the road. I was not expecting that. I slammed on the brakes and saw the same message. I have not noticed any braking performance issues - they seem pretty strong to me...

Keeping my Model S as she ages

Makes sense. An 8 year old Tesla will have virtually zero depreciation going forward. Installing a brand new battery for $20k, even if it dies at the end of its four year parts warranty, would likely cost less than four years of depreciation on a new replacement Model S. Probably even taking...

HVAC temperature - changes on it's own?

My temp setting also changes by itself. Sometimes seemingly randomly, and other times the change appears to be triggered when I pull into my driveway. Almost like there is a geo-tag function tied to the HVAC (which I don’t think is a feature).

    Inner wear on front tires

I have a 100d, which I bought used last year. I have read several threads indicating that the rear tires on AWD model S are expected to wear faster. I am experiencing the opposite. After just under 7000 miles, starting with essentially new tires, the fronts are at around 3/32 and the rears are...

    Price Check - Used 2017 Model S 100D

Good info! The proposed accident discount sounds a bit harsh though. From what I’ve seen online, that would only drop the value by 5K, depending of course upon the severity and type of previous damage. I’m going to guess a discounted value of at least $60k on private sale since it has FSD and...
