Ionity cuts EV charging prices across Europe, EXCEPT UK!

UK hasn't changed, but it's still *somehow* one of the cheaper networks even at "sticker price". The changes to other regions are fairly minimal. Electroverse / ovo have a discount available without membership, and the memberships (while not something I particularly like as a general way of...

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

They had Tesla Energy Plan and now have Intelligent Octopus Flux where you get this. What gets complicated is that a typical tesla owner wants this, but also want to charge a car cheaply too, and maybe run the heatpump cheaply in the night and afternoon. It gets complicated once multiple...

    Unlock Charge Port - Idea

In Europe we have the option for tethered and untethered cables. For the untethered you bring your own cable, which is supplied with the car (Reduces maintenance / thefts for the charger owners), which is why you generally want to keep the cable locked to the car

    Unlock Charge Port - Idea

I think etiquette wise, if you're leaving a charging cable locked when you're finished charging, you're the problem. The Tesla destination chargers will generally cover a couple of bays, but you're probably right that there won't be a huge number of scenarios.

    Unlock Charge Port - Idea

When charging, both ends will be locked. So some ICE driver unplugging isn't an issue. The question here is about being able to unlock once the charge is complete. And actually I've had situations where this might be super helpful - eg two cars sharing one charger at a B&B. I could just unplug...

    Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

I have Solar and Battery which is setup for export. For an assumed 1hr session, My "normal" over 10 days was probably 1kwh as the battery frequently runs out by that point and we cook. I charge overnight at 7.5p on intelligent Octopus. When the DFS notification comes out, home assistant holds...

    Insurance Question - Young Driver

If you can get insurance, remember that driving on the right takes some time to get used to. I'd probably look to do "aire to aire" on autoroutes if I was letting someone inexperienced drive the car.

    Independant service centre uk

Cleeverly looked at mine as mobile. I think it's perfectly sensible to get a car looked at by a professional after 25k miles. Mobile is a little more expensive, but so is travelling to Gloucester. They spotted some issues I hadn't, eg wear on the inside of the front wheels was far higher than...

Disabling of speed camera warnings for driving in France

Which might mean you get away with it, or might mean you get pulled over by the police or boarder control over unpaid fines if you revisit the country. Personally I'd prefer to try and avoid speeding anyway, and if not, get fines by post and pay them

    [UK] Spring Software Update

Android auto is shipped as an App, so you'd get updated up until a point. They don't support the new releases of android auto on old android versions *forever*, but not is it "latest version only".

Disabling of speed camera warnings for driving in France

The implementation doesn't warn you of specific speed cameras, it warns you of "danger areas" which are approximately 2-4 minute segments which may or may not contain a speed camera. Here's TomTom's description -> About Danger Zones My understanding is that this approach is legal, and also...

Octopus Electric Universe app/card and public charge points

I've generally used electroverse in europe, but occasionally in the UK. I've generally found that the prices are at least cheaper than any other roaming RFID. For Europe, sometimes rules aren't properly passed along - the rules at 3p/Minute after 2 hours, whereas octopus charge that...

Mp3 stuck at 16 amp charging after using public charger

Onboard charger fault is a good call. I don't know if the service menu might warn for that. You'd have to have 2 of the 3 modules fail for 16a max I think your best next step is to try against another charger (Neighbour? Friend?) and see if you're capped to 16a on that as well. Unfortunately...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

General comment It's a good thought. General comment on octopus, when I said they're looking for a standard install, this is what I'm talking about. They'll have 1 panel size available and order 1000s of them. Maybe you can go with another supplier and they'll measure the panels carefully and...

    [UK] Spring Software Update

USS delete was way, way after the move to Ryzen. There are some videos floating around showing the new vision based parking on the intel atom units, the visuals are reduced, but the core functionality is there. Obviously assumes you've paid for EAP

    [UK] Spring Software Update

"Drive Occupancy on the way out" - The seat sensors do fail, so my assumption is that they're doing a "the best part of no part at all" on this. I guess they've start with neural nets to detect occupancy via cabin cam, they'll log data comparing this vs bum sensors for the next few releases...

    [UK] Spring Software Update

This is also my take on it. Forking the code for different UIs creates addition code, testing and cost. They've not done this for LOLz, and the change isn't enough to encourage new car sales.

    Supercharger team sacked?

I suspect they'll sit on projects which haven't started construction yet while the dust settles. What they've agreed will have economic value, so once the dust settles I'm imagine that they'll either resume work with a delay, or sell the plans and planning permission to another CPO. EG group...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I suspect that well secured to the A frame is unlikely to fail in all but the most extreme circumstances, but the standard will assume bad workmanship and that 100kg of battery will just be left on the rafters

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Being able to do the DC-DC shunt is the definition of a hybrid inverter, and the shared AC-DC inverter saves a good deal of manufacturing costs too. The British Standard focusing on "no batteries in lofts" is focusing on a few areas 1) Fire risk, obviously. Although manufacturers argue that...
  25. T

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

So with the hybrids, the DC-DC for the battery is separate from the DC-AC inverter. So if you have a 4kw array and a 3.6kw inverter, in principle you could feed some power to the battery (if it's not full) while doing max export. The only difficulty being that it's hard to control the inverter...
  26. T

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

How much was the quote Also note the enphase inverters, which tend to be more expensive as a solution, but for a small set of panels might actually work out cheaper, especially if you already have a gateway in place. The enphase stuff is good, but it's not as easy to attach batteries directly to
  27. T

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I'd argue that with the smaller array, a large battery is a bigger benefit, as you'll probably want to top up overnight The batteries outside - there is a new draft British Standard which "ban them" from lofts, escape paths and rooms with people in them. Garages are largely OK. An inverter is...

    Supercharger team sacked?

So... My earlier comments about needing an adult in charge... FWIW, UK employees will have certain entitlements, but the odds are they woke up to a non-working laptop the same as the US. In the UK, in principle there is now a paid consultation period and the opportunity to apply for different...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Octopus did my install. Prices are generally good, but not to the level where they've got to cut significant corners. You will find cheaper if you hunt around (particularly schemes like Solar Together) The Givenergy kit is pretty decent price for performance. Again, Octopus are looking for...

Did Tesla design cars to be able to take a range extender just incase?

Forgot they fitted those. TBH, was glad of the 50kw Gridserve unit at JO'G, it worked, actually provided 50kw and didn't have a time limit.

Did Tesla design cars to be able to take a range extender just incase?

So, the highland council chargers are limited to 45 minutes charge time. That does mean that nobody gets a full charge, which is pants. But does mean there aren't massive issues with queuing. We managed with the public chargers when we went up there for our first trip. There were a few enforced...

    Supercharger team sacked?

It's disappointing to see "early days of twitter purchase" type kneejerk firings at the first bad quarter. A better explanation is required if it's anything other than cost cutting, as that's the obvious assumption at this stage. Personally, I'd be happy to "Pay more at the pumps" if that's...

Did Tesla design cars to be able to take a range extender just incase?

The Cybertruck "range extender" is really just a second battery pack. I'd see range extenders being small petrol engines like the i3. FWIW, Tesla have absolutely no experience with designing, producing or servicing combustion engines. I can't see why they would move away from pure EV...

[UK] Report that Tesla not going to produce low cost “Model 2”

As I read it, basically they're abandoning the unboxed build process (Tesla's Radical "Unboxed" Manufacturing Technique Could Reduce Costs by 50% - Core77 provides a reasonable explanation) and going with traditional assembly, which will require less retooling. I don't read it as the "model 2"...

    UK Pricing piss take

Yup, competition is really heating up in China, and Telsa prices are dropping as a result. In the UK they're, at best, testing the market. Hence Tesla are keeping prices high. Battery chemistry and soforth, buyers will likely look at the WLTP and maybe the idealised 10-80 charge speed. On...

    UK Pricing piss take

Let's take the Dolphin, Europe seems to be €28,990 inc VAT, that's £25k vs £30.2 for UK. They're 11k in China. The Seal AWD excellence is basically the same price as a model 3 long range, with a larger pack which doesn't manage the same range because it's not particularly efficient and...

    UK Pricing piss take

I blame BYD for trying to milk the UK market. The Seal, Dolphin and Atto are outrageously priced in the UK, they're not competition for Tesla, so Tesla haven't dropped their prices. The price drops elsewhere are down to competitors providing competitive offerings, and at the moment that's only...

Glad it's resolved. For those concerned about 80/100a fuse limits, and thinking about three phase. Octopus Energy Saving Sessions

Waiting to see if octopus fund a session anyway I guess. They went with £1.75 as a bid last time as the lowest value they think viable for users... I think that's a reasonable position. I don't have an issue with octopus not funding sessions, it's a commercial decision and ultimately saying...
