When Driving Assistance Systems go wrong

Phantom braking from AEB while driving manually is extremely rare (I haven’t seen that once in 40k miles) Phantom forward collision warning audible chimes are quite common imo (at least on the most sensitive option).
  3. G

    Is this not deceptive?

Tesla emailed me directly with marketing including gas savings to the email address I have on file in my Tesla account. I own a Model 3. I’d suspect they’re just sloppy rather than malicious, but the end result is clearly a misleading claim.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

For me it's the in-lane positioning and following distances that are annoying me. Neither is truly dangerously egregious but bad enough that it has moved monitoring FSD from "chill" to vaguely annoying.

FSD hardware upgrade front camera quality

For comparison, these are from dashcam footage on my 2019 Model 3: First one is under direct sunlight (more or less the idea conditions, quality doesn't get much better than this): The bottom half of your camera does look distinctly worse...

Charging at Airbnb with Dryer Outlet During Colorado Road Trip

How did you figure this btw? Are you sure you're going to Howard CO because I see 4 superchargers within 2 hours, lol.

Charging at Airbnb with Dryer Outlet During Colorado Road Trip

Yeah, that’ll be an easy trip in a Tesla. On the way there you could charge either in Poncha Springs or Colorado Springs. For day trips, i guess it depends how far and where you’re going. Poncha Springs is good to top up if you go west. Salida has free Rivian L2 chargers (11kw) that are great...

Charging at Airbnb with Dryer Outlet During Colorado Road Trip

Colorado resident here, I’ve been all over the state and used CCS chargers pretty extensively. While not at the level of Tesla for reliability and speed I wouldn’t rule out the usefulness of non Tesla fast chargers. They offer substantial flexibility for charging in southern CO particularly and...

Is the new Model 3 “Highland” sufficiently different to warrant its on Forum?

I suspect we’d get a lot of misrouted posts from people who aren’t aware of which years are pre highland vs post highland

    Acceleration Boost at High Speeds

Note: x axis is in KM. Yep, power drops pretty rapidly past 50-60 mph. Constant power yields decreasing acceleration as speed increases (thanks physics) and air drag increases exponentially so the overall impact is it doesn’t pull too hard in the 70-90+ range. Would love try a highland

Tesla Norway says Vision Park Assist after court loss

That's the drawback of a fairly large forward blind spot. Until they add a bumper camera (like Cybertruck and the Semi have) to all the vehicles they're inherently limited in their ability to detect what is right in front of the bumper and have to rely on memory. FWIW I don't find the...

Mockup of Screen with No Map, Visualization

I’ve thought they should add a larger border or background color to indicate if FSD is active. If the whole screen edge were blue it would be quite noticeable out of the corner of your eye

How do I tell if I have HW3 of HW4?

Different autopilot computer as well but you can’t check that without taking the car apart
  17. G

    Minor accident using autopilot

^ Generally pretty sound advice, but there isn't even remotely a chance of winning any legal action against Tesla here. I wouldn't waste the time and money on an attorney consult here. Autopilot is and has always been a hands on the wheel and pay attention system. It's definitely not expected...

    Value of FSD on resale

FWIW I estimated Tesla was bumping used car prices by about $3k when I picked up my used Model 3 a bit over a year ago. Anything in the $1-3k range sounds pretty reasonable for FSD on used vehicles. It’s by far the best way to get FSD

How do I tell if I have HW3 of HW4?

HW4 doesn’t require no USS, most just happen to not have it. From your description those are HW4 cameras

Good deal? Possible new Tesla owner here

Gotcha. You can check the other cameras under Settings > Service > Camera previews, just to verify the rest are OK. No idea why the fender camera isn't working, but would agree that's important and could be a bit pricy to repair.

Supercharger - Gypsum, CO - Public and Service Center Supercharger locations

There are two sets of chargers, yes: Service Center and at the Airport. But the airport ones don't seem to be public. They've been there over a year, for starters, and there's multiple pictures in this thread showing the locks on them. And they don't show up in the Tesla nav. @Big Earl can...

    Supercharger - Poncha Springs, CO

I've been through Poncha Springs half a dozen times in the past year. It's fine - same as it's always been. I've had it mostly to myself sometimes and gotten 140+kW, and had to share a couple times. Typical V2 SC stuff.

EV efficiency can be measured in units of force, weirdly enough

I guess there inverse concepts (more efficient is lower consumption) Colloquially it's pretty common to use both "efficiency" or "consumption" a shorthand for "average amount of energy the car consumed per mile driven".
  25. G

Good deal? Possible new Tesla owner here

Which cameras are not working? When you say "not working" what is actually seeing in the car?
  26. G

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Settings > Service > Camera Preview. Available on all modern vehicles, I believe. The annoying thing is you have to be in park though so if you're curious what the various cameras can see while driving no luck

EV efficiency can be measured in units of force, weirdly enough

(These is very much a shower thought kind of post, not a serious discussion.) Has anyone noticed how EV efficiency is dimensionally the same as force? In North America at least typically consumption is measured in watt*hours/mile. That's power*time/distance, or energy/distance. Energy is...

How to know what software your car should have

The only real way to know what update the car “should” have at any moment is to become unhealthfully addicted to following Tesla news online and spend many hours each week studying the latest developments here, Twitter, Teslafi and other places. The interesting updates are all rolled out...

  32. G

    Value of FSD on resale

The people saying no are just wrong, lol.
  33. G

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

You can still just use it like you do today though: keep a hand on the wheel, applying weight. I'd think with this new update it would still be a net improvement (sometimes I get "false" nags even with my hand on the wheel because I'm not applying any torque).
  34. G

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I don't think we've seen enough testing yet. If there is a difference what we should expect to see is under ideal conditions (good lighting, no glasses, camera not covered, driver head is in view, driver not on their phone) there is zero or minimal nag. Under non-ideal conditions it'll work...

    LFP range in decent weather

Phantom drain while parked isn't that much. It's always going to be non-zero, so yes to get the best range you want to drive continuously. Keep an eye on the "Park" section of the energy app. You've already confirmed sentry is off (great, that's super energy intensive). I'd also keep an eye on...
  36. G

    LFP range in decent weather

From the energy app pictures you've shared this all looks pretty reasonable, actually. You're probably not going to be able to get a lot more range out. Other than the suggestions already shared here, keep an eye on how much energy is consumed while parked vs while driving. The energy app isn't...

    ChargePoint home not as advertised

This is true. Here's my car charging at 12 kW AC, bizarrely, at exactly the same voltage and current as OP car (48A @ 238V). Guess it was an extra spicy 238V idk

Tesla Model 3 2019 not driving as smooth as before

    Alignment out of wack?
  39. G

Is it ok to change to “P” before the car is completely not moving?

It doesn’t engage park when moving faster than a few mph.
  40. G

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

The consistent lane wobble (typically at turn lane entry) would indicate sticking to a plan is certainly tricky. I'm not an ML expert and obviously don't know the details of how V12 works, but speculating wildly: Sticking to a plan means making decisions right now that are consistent with...
  41. G

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Disagree. In my experience V12 has some annoying traits in "near-highway" situations. For instance on a undivided rural two lane road with speed limits in the 45-55 mph range, or even some divided highways with 55mph limits where V12 stays engaged. It can't hold consistent following distances...

Suggestions on protecting the USB stick?

Another option is use the tiny Sandisk micro SSD reader. It's so miniscule it'd be hard to hit it or damage it.
  43. G

Is it ok to change to “P” before the car is completely not moving?

Relax. Nothing happens (other than an error message popping up on screen). You have to hold in the parking button for a while to engage the emergency brake. You're not going to accidentally engage the brake.
  44. G

Time to disable bluetooth as a key?

You can use an Android phone as an NFC key. Not iPhone. Bit of an important detail.
  45. G

    How to gracefully disengage FSD

We don't know exactly what they're used for, but my guess is they are primarily there to benchmark performance across releases via auto-classify interventions based on the audio feedback. For instance, you might submit feedback like "car hit curb at tight intersection". Tesla could easily track...
  46. G

Is it ok to change to “P” before the car is completely not moving?

That still doesn’t answer the question. FWIW I do this pretty regularly in a 2019 Model. It can be quite jerky if you hit parking while still rolling, but it hasn’t damaged anything yet. If it was prone to damaging things Tesla could update the software to stop the car with the main brakes first.

  48. G

How much power do the headlights draw?

leaving the lights on for an hour wastes enough energy to drive about 650 meters. Lol.
  49. G

Feeling scammed on FSD retrofit. Am I in the wrong?

If only Tesla knew about these complexities before selling FSD to people lol. There are a lot of versions but Tesla has some EASY things they could do: - Bump up the upgrade price for MCU1 cars to cover the MCU2 uogrsde - just eat the cost of MCU2 - don’t sell FSD upgrades for MCU1 cars any more

    Turn signal update?

You have to full press the stalk (not half press) to initiate a lane change (in vehicles with stalks)
