    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Happy with one improvement to TACC I noticed. It used to freak out and suddenly brake because it saw cars parked at an angle on a median as a threat, but it handles them fine now.

Thanks for sharing and hope this encourages or shames people into not hogging chargers needlessly!

    Model Y Accessories for Australia

Saw on Whirlpool but haven't seen it on this site yet - Tesla-issue parcel shelf for MY finally available. $650. https://shop.tesla.com/en_au/product/model-y-parcel-shelf

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

That is exactly what I noticed today, now when I have the energy usage showing I can’t see the next turn too. A step backward.

    Supercharger - Melbourne (Brighton East)

JB Hifi will be good to wander around if you’re also a technophile which you might be as a Tesla owner, although the Dan Murphy’s nearby could be dangerous.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Yes (had plenty of time, along with getting other accessories!). Best Tesla could do was give me the ‘standard’ (non black and white slimline) plates which were apparently cheaper, which I immediately ripped off and returned to VicRoads.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Bring your customised plate to the delivery, remove the default plate, screw your own on and inform VicRoads, that’s what I did. Tesla stopped doing it for customers quite some time ago.

Refresh Model X & S Waiting Room - AUSTRALIA (Orders cancelled by Tesla May2023)

Surprised and disappointed - I know Tesla does minimalist interiors and minimalist product lines but didn’t expect Elon to essentially tell the RHD market you can have either the 3 or the Y, take it or leave it. Maybe they have some kind of replacement for the S/X categories but I doubt it. I...

    Camping in the 3

Camping in the Y is pretty good though I haven't tried doing it in the 3 to compare (I suspect there's a lot more space to move around in the Y). Shades/blinds for the windows are good, the first set I bought from Tessories were missing clips for the rear windscreen but they sent out a set...

    2,922km trip

Nice writeup and detail, thanks for sharing - always like hearing about people's experiences and makes me want to do my next road trip even sooner.

    Superchargers in Australia

These outages are disappointing - clearly there's some way to go with charging infrastructure. Up to now I thought I could rely on Tesla's rock-solid Superchargers but if you reach Gundagai with minimal SoC expecting the Superchargers will be fine, and the whole site with other chargers go down...

Advice on buying Non Tesla items and thoughts

imho necessary is very subjective - some will swear mats are essential. I really wanted rubber (or rubber-like) ones, ordered and received them before taking delivery (of course), and put them in as soon as I got home. I prefer not to see how the included mats would handle the dirt and mud I...

Sensitivity of accelerator pedal in parking manouvres

It's been a total non-issue for me, and I don't use creep mode. I've been able to adapt to the pedals to reverse-park, even while interspersed with still having to drive an ICE now and then. The bigger issue for me is the visibility - the ICE cars I'm used to have better rear visibility, better...

Reversing issues in new MYP = accident

That's a real bummer to your brand new precious. I'll test out your points, when I get my own MY RWD (from repairs after someone else hit it - probably less damage than you - had to wait nearly a couple of months to get it into the repairers). I still find the reversing camera very misleading...

    Repair/Parts wait times in Australia

That's good to know, I've been hearing their ads a lot and when I looked on their website about where the money to pay for the hire car comes from, it seemed they go out of their way not to say. And the ads made it sound like this is a service set in stone in the constitution.
  16. M

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Crazy price! Would anyone in their right mind pay this when they could get existing inventory straight from Tesla? I still see a bunch of MYPs available for NSW pickup for $97-110k plus taxes/fees.

    MY RWD insurance all 2k+?

I’m paying AAMI $1.1k (with maximum excess I think) for my comprehensive insurance, which includes sunroof and windscreen cover. In metro Melb. I do think it’s an extremely bad idea to be uninsured. Even if the cost of replacing your car is immaterial (your post suggests not), you could do very...

What to expect when you're expecting (Australia Delivery Process)

AFAIK no - Tesla no longer accommodates custom plates and you have to handle it all yourself now, including taking off the standard plates, putting on your own and updating VicRoads.

Yes, the packaging came with L and R stickers.

Looking forward to the first MYP reports. Good luck to those of you waiting and about to take delivery!

What are favourite 19 inch wheel covers

I'm very happy with the Tessories turbine wheel covers I got - I couldn't wait to get rid of the geminis. Bit embarrassed to take photos of my own as I've already managed a bit of kerb rash 🫤 Can't comment on impact on range, would need to scientifically test them. Would also need a...

Cabin Overheat Protection - Activation Temperature

Thanks that makes sense - suppose I have to use dog mode if I really want a temperature-controlled cabin.
  23. M

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

After updating the Tesla app (iOS), noticed a new icon in the top right which turns out to be the Loot Box. This just leads to a screen basically saying the referral program is kaput. Does anyone know why this Loot Box is now rather prominent - are we likely to get something again here in Aust?

Cabin Overheat Protection - Activation Temperature

I have a bit of a different observation from OP but I haven't found cabin overheat protection working the way I'd expect (and I've just read the manual to see if any 'quirks' were actually documented features or limitations). I'd have thought if I activate it for say 30°C, with AC, it's...

    Phantom braking return?

I've had phantom braking about half a dozen times now, after driving a total of about 7,000 km (given phantom braking only happens if I have TACC/autopilot on, which is usually during highway and freeway driving which of course isn't all of my driving). I haven't seen it more frequently after...

Refresh Model X & S Waiting Room - AUSTRALIA (Orders cancelled by Tesla May2023)

Interesting little snippet to be able to configure to not get the yoke (although the idea of not having stalks still seems very odd). Wonder if this means production for Australia is getting significantly closer, otherwise why bother tweaking the website.

Model Y 20" Induction Wheels... For $6K extra? NSW Stamp Duty

I got these and very happy (had to ask Tessories to send out the foam strips after they didn’t come initially). Looks far better than the Geminis. I wasn’t keen on the Inductions given what I read about potential even rougher ride.

    Sample? Updated auto pilot

What a surprise to get this today. During these summer holidays I definitely have much more time to try it out, so this is an unexpected and very welcome present - thanks Elon!

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Yes they did, I asked for this in person in Mulgrave. When I ordered my MY online I chose the customised plates option but then Tesla stopped installing them for customers. They suggested I get the standard blue on white to save a bit of money and I went with that. I've only seen the standard...

    BP Pulse Network

Guilty as charged. I fill up for free when there are opportunities but do weigh it against the time/distance to get to a free charger. I think it’s also because free chargers are a thing currently, unlike free petrol. But I know the free ride will come to an end and we do need to pay for these...
  31. M

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Tesla doesn't install custom plates for you any more - in Melbourne my experience was asking them to give me the cheaper standard blue-on-white plates (in 1AA1AA format), rather than rather than the slimline white-on-black plates. On delivery day, I brought the custom plates I'd ordered...
  32. M

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

If you didn't get an explanatory email like me, I relied on posts in this forum, and called Tesla to confirm - I'm in Melbourne so sent it to [email protected].
  33. M

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

See my post below, I believe the surcharges are the same nationwide. I also think that as with other payment methods, the funds have to clear 48 hours before pickup (ie your account balance has to update to show you've paid everything off), so you can't go in and pay by card on the same day as...
  34. M

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

Yes - you can’t do it online or over the phone, so I had to go to their sites in Melbourne / Sydney and pay there.
  35. M

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

It's frustrating and stressful to me. For a product that takes months to arrive, i don't know why Tesla can't do a better job of giving us more accurate notice, even when we're being offered a cancellation. I don't mean a precise EDD six months out, but even roughly two weeks' notice in this...

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

The numberplates are screwed into a kind of black plastic plate that is (I guess) very sturdily stuck onto the front of the car itself. I did the MY but expect it’s exactly the same for M3. It’s very easy to unscrew the standard numberplates and screw your own ones in if you want. I managed to...
  37. M

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

You have to electronically sign and date it and then email it to [email protected]. I expect it’s the same for M3/MY. I never got email instructions to do this and the only way I knew I had to do this was reading these forums and calling Tesla to confirm.

    Model Y HUD upgrade

G'day, keen to read of your experiences and if you want to upload some pics. I've seen mixed reports about these add-ons, I don't think I can bring myself to do it but honestly would love a display right in front if it worked seamlessly.
  39. M

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

I'm glad I didn't take delivery of an M3 and then try to flip it when my MY arrived. Tesla blacklisting was a concern but even if they didn't it looks like the market would have punished me. Not sure if many people made money trying to cash in on people's desperation for a new Tesla. There were...

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

They usually come with slimlines. I was putting personalised plates on and because they don’t install them for us any more, they said they’d at least put these cheaper standard plates, and remove the difference from the invoice (not sure if they actually did).
  42. M

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Waiting no more! Collected yesterday from Mulgrave - got an email while enroute saying it was ready for pickup, so was able to go in a little early. When I got there, the charger (visible in pic) was connected and filling up beyond 75%, which was great and I left it in while running my...

What to expect when you're expecting (Australia Delivery Process)

Hope you get through to them and sort it out. I detested this screen on the account, it doesn't correctly or accurately tell you where you are or what you actually need to do next IMHO. Nowhere did it tell me clearly that I had to fill and send in the rego form (for Victoria at least). It also...

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

I finally got the SMS to book delivery. Booked for 2 November, which was the only option available. Of course I selected the earliest possible time.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Finally got my invoice. No text to book a pickup yet. EDD still shows Oct 19 - Nov 2 but staff told me to expect it more Nov rather than sooner.

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Scheduled from next week onwards... Thanks both. I rang them today (twice) and the first time they said they'd done something and to expect the invoice in the next day or so. The second time, after the above tips, they confirmed I had to email the form to exactly the above address. I've read...

    Australian Model Y Waiting Room

Thanks, I've had another look but can't see anything outstanding. I entered all my details such as licence shortly after ordering. When I rang the big T they said it looked ok and the 'customer-facing' parts should update soon, but that was more than a week ago. I do have the VicRoads...
