I've enagaged lawyers in an attempt to recover FSD cost (Australian owner)

A company that flagrantly disregards an NCAT ruling is just asking for a Court enforceable order to be issued and them paying your costs. Yep, a Court finding against them would appear on their Builders Licence and be a permanent stain on their operations (for people who bother to check...

National and State Renewable Energy stats

The stats for May. The national result is actually worse than the result from May last year (33.7%), which is not something that happens very often. There was a big blocking High air pressure system sitting below or over southeast Australia for much of the month, as well as extended periods of...

ACT Government EV charging grants announced

I thought BP had lost interest in Australia because we were no longer deemed a “priority market”? Or did BP lodge this grant application before they decided that… 🤔 https://gizmodo.com.au/2024/04/bp-pulse-ev-expansion/

    Key Fob availability in Australia

I did exactly this experiment early on, and got similar results for unlock, but found Bluetooth connection died within about 10m, certainly if there were any obstructions (walls etc). YMMV. The Tesla App might say your phone is Bluetooth connected to the car, but that does not necessarily mean...

    Charging Adaptors 101

I can get why solar inverters needs to be able to be controlled by DNSPs, in order to prevent export when then grid can’t take it. But electricity pricing signals should be enough to stop people grid charging their EVs at very high rates at peak times. This “people come home and plug in at...

    ChargeFox EV charging Network

Thank god for that… sorry to say but the NRMA app was truly awful for EV charging. And they developed that part of the App after AMS had purchased Chargefox. I mean, WTH?

Anybody have direct experience with Amber Electricity?

I just made my first intervention… Amber was starting to grid-charge my battery on the basis that grid electricity was “cheap”. But 18c/kWh isn’t that cheap. Also, it’s going to be sunny all day in Sydney today. My house battery will get full by itself soon enough at 0c/kWh - so grid charging...

Everything Electric Sydney (February 9-10-11, 2024)

Or there are some caveats in the existing articles of association which prevent a sale before then. I wonder who an “appropriate party” could be… clearly not an auto manufacturer, they would be fundamentally conflicted (and also not core business). A company that already runs large trade shows?

Everything Electric Sydney (February 9-10-11, 2024)

Just got an email from Dan Caesar, the CEO of Fully Charged Show Ltd. (i.e. Everything Electric) covering their future plans, with a bit of an editorial on how terrible things are in the UK "The last 18 months have been especially hard and this is almost entirely due to conditions here in the...

Kerbside pole-mounted chargers are now a thing

No. As @Futuretech points out, I would expect idle fees to apply only during time restricted parking periods, which in most of inner Sydney is either 8am-8pm or 8am-10pm. Certainly that’s what EVX does. Exploren is currently the only other polecharger network in Sydney (using the...

Anybody have direct experience with Amber Electricity?

I’ve noticed this week Amber being a bit more aggressive in discharging my battery to the grid when export prices are high… but it’s mostly getting it wrong unfortunately. Three times it has discharged during the evening peak (5-6:30pm) when export prices were 58c/kWh or higher. Sounds great…...

A totally new one to me… what I’ve been able to glean: They say they are an Australian CPO They don’t have an App yet Cost will be 40c/kWh. EVX charge 50c/kWh, 39c/kWh overnight. Power is 7 kW, BYO cable They will have idle fees but with a 30 minute grace period! The EVSE is manufactured in...

Fantastic stuff! The more the merrier! Originally, NSW’s EV strategy as released in 2021 had nothing at all about kerbside charging. The concept had never even entered their head. It was all about fast charging no more than 5km away from anyone Sydney. I’m astonished though that the Daily...

    Charge On Solar Australia

OK I think I have worked out how to stop CoS keeping the car awake and undoing all the charging it’s just done. I say “I think” because this seems a bit Ouija-Board-ish and sometimes with Tesla it’s very hard to do a repeatable experiment 🤣 What seemed to work is when you want to turn CoS off...

Tesla still doesn't know about the Rozelle Interchange

Well, yes, but in the Rozelle Intechange we have a situation where the car thinks you are somewhere you are not. It thinks you are driving on surface roads, when in fact you are 40 metres underground. With TACC and navigation on, the car will make profoundly incorrect decisions which are...

I've enagaged lawyers in an attempt to recover FSD cost (Australian owner)

Anybody have direct experience with Amber Electricity?

I have put my faith in SmartCharge and have not intervened yet, but I think I might need to occasionally. In particular, the day I actually made money, Amber waited way too long before charging my battery, and so when it did charge, it did it at the pre-spike price which was over 50c/kWh by...

Anybody have direct experience with Amber Electricity?

I’m pretty sure I will never see anything like that. My solar array is simply not big enough (and it can’t go any bigger as my entire roof is covered) so my daytime exports are limited. Or zero when I’m using Tesla CoS to charge my Model 3. Solar export rates on Amber generally look quite...

Anybody have direct experience with Amber Electricity?

Everyone’s usage patterns are different so there are scenarios where a fixed tariff makes sense. It wouldn’t for me, because with solar and a battery, I managed to shift 95% of my grid electricity use outside of peak hours, and about 75% to offpeak hours. So cost was minimised for me by...

    Powerwall 3 Roadmap - 3 Phase Coming!

As @cafz mentioned, the inverter is the limiting factor as it converts the solar DC to AC for use everywhere else, including exporting and charging the battery. Almost all PW2 are AC coupled not DC coupled. IIRC, DC coupled PW2 were never sold in Australia but I could be wrong. If PW3 with an...

    Charge On Solar Australia

You car should not wake up just using the Tesla App. My App defaults to opening showing the PW2 status and power flows, the car won’t wake unless I swipe right. If you leave it selected on the car then close the App or put it in the background, then next time you open it, it will wake the car.
  44. Vostok

Anybody have direct experience with Amber Electricity?

And I should have added that my main beef with Tesla CoS is that it prioritises charging the car over filling your PW2. So if you leave CoS on all the time, your car will eventually fill up to the target charge level you set (possibly over multiple days depending on how big your solar array is)...

🤷‍♂️ the learning curve with new(-ish) technology products is often steep. You can hold off buying and keep waiting for the price to fall further, or you can accept that’s what’s going to happen, and enjoy the car instead. I keep cars for a long time (to date, the shortest time is 16 years)...

It looks exactly the same. As @Jules22 motioned, you must set your PW2 to be in Self-Consumption mode, and not TBC. Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

My insurer, like most, provides an insured value range for any vehicle they insure if you don’t want to accept their “agreed” value. I chose to insure at the high end of the range they provided, and paid the premium accordingly. I don’t appreciate being accused of insurance fraud.

    Australian Model 3 Waiting Room

🤔 well I bought my Model 3 LR for $95k drive-away in 2019, and it’s currently insured for $73k, which means if it was written off, I could still buy a brand new one, even though “new for old” on the policy ended after 2 years! So to me, Tesla’s ongoing price reductions looks like upside!! And...
