    14-50 requirements

Tap your vehicle name in the app and there should be an option to Add Product, then Wall Connector. Must be a Gen3 wall connector with WiFi. Mine is a Gen2 so I can't add it.

Hankook new iON tire, an "EV" tire (not the same as Kinergy GT)

My wife wants a new Equinox EV. She is not a high-performance type of driver. Her current Equinox is the high trim level Premier AWD, it has the optional 19” rather than the Premier’s standard 18” tires. Lower-level trims come with 17” tires. But 19” is the smallest diameter that will be...

Model 3 2021 not recognising music from USB-C stick

I thought the removal of data capabilities from the USB-C console ports happened with the switch to the Ryzen processor. So there are Ryzen-equipped cars with functional USB-C ports, that don’t require an aftermarket module such ad one from TParts? I believe I have woken the car by removing...

    Navigation App

If I had to venture a guess, it will bring up the navigation (map) but would only function when the car visualization is full-screen. I have the Atom-based MCU2 so I don't get the full-screen car visualization.

Vendor Teslaunch Gear Shift Stalk Switch Turn Signal Lever Kit for Model 3 Highland🚀🚀GIVEAWAY!

I don't have a dog in this fight, but the horn belongs in the middle of the steering wheel, not on a stalk. Ford had the horn on the turn signal stalk at one point in the early 80s and it was the stupidest thing ever, accidentally activating it even became a joke for a movie.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I would have probably bought a new-generation Giulia back before my first Tesla in 2017, if it had been offered in the USA with a manual. edit: Lotus was never on my radar because I'm a large guy.

    Autosteer Lane Change

I drove on the Turnpike for the first time in several months. Normally I will use Autosteer and I noticed there is no need to disconnect when changing lanes unlike before the start of the FSD trial. Several times with Autosteer engaged, I was able to signal and the car would change lane. Just...

Mockup of Screen with No Map, Visualization

There's a setting (I think it's in the Toybox somewhere?) that allows you to have the "rainbow road" visualization all the time whenever Autosteer is active. While some might find the animation distracting, it lets me know when Autosteer is engaged and I don't have to look for a tiny blue...

Does Tesla let you roll negative equity into a lease?

Financing a vehicle for more than it's worth (aside from financing taxes) such as up to the aforementioned 125% usually requires an 800+ credit score. It's just not a risk most financial institutions want to take with just anyone.

VERY Loud Fan Running Noise While Charging at Home

Radiators behind the front bumper could also be packed with leaves and other debris that would inhibit cooling. Six years is a lot of time to collect that kind of stuff in there.

Robotaxi : The business of competing with human drivers

I would take it a step farther and say if a thousand people have a thousand zero-disengagement drives each. Doing the same commute over and over won't quite expose the AI to everything it might encounter. A greater variety of routes will expose the AI to more situations.

Plaid set new best time - record

700 pounds is a serious "diet" for the car. Assuming all carpeting and interior is gone besides a lightweight driver seat (you can clearly see the dash is removed.) Did it feel as violent as it looked in the video? 1.6g on acceleration might be nothing for a Navy pilot getting launched off a...

Robotaxi : The business of competing with human drivers

There goes your profit. Taxicabs usually carry only liability insurance because comp/collision is WAY too expensive. Most cabs are ten-year-old plus throwaway cars. Uber/Lyft/etc drivers don't usually carry proper insurance for taxicab duty despite their effective usage being the same...

    Manually avoid potholes

Downsizing to 19" or 18" wheels will give more sidewall to allow tires to absorb potholes with less chance of damage, but there's no guarantees. Even a 15" tire on a 1976 Monte Carlo could get taken out by a pothole under the wrong circumstances. Check with your state or municipality, they may...

    2024.14.6 problem

I got pushed 2024.14.6 to my 2022 M3P Tuesday evening and drove it yesterday. I got the FSD trial but turned it off so I could use normal TACC without having to deal with the car trying to kill me. I do a "Power Off" from the safety menu followed by a thumbwheel reset after every software push...

Why no FSD (supervised) for those cars stuck on software branch 2024.8.9?

I never subscribed to FSD on my M3P, and it wasn't available on my previous cars (one pre-AP 2014 S and an AP1 2015 S.) I got pushed 2024.14.6 last night, which means no more TACC, which is the only thing I use 99% of the time and I have no intent on purchasing or subscribing, not even at the...

Model 3 Highland (US) Waiting room

AP1 cars (Models S and X equipped with the MobilEye system) would change lanes when instructed via the turn signal. Loved this feature on my used P85DL, no disengagements to change lanes compared to the standard AP on my M3P.

    Turn Signal intermittently doesn't work

The Model S signals worked flawlessly because they're Mercedes parts. I've personally never had an issue with my Model 3 but I've seen a lot of complaints. Maybe I'm not aggressive enough moving the stalk to get it to fail this way?

Would it be O.K to leave Model 3 unplugged for 5 weeks?

Battery degradation is a product of three things: State of Charge (SoC), temperature and time. In the graphs from the post below, the LFP degradation worsens at 70% charge or higher, compared to 55% for NCA and 60% for NMC. So leaving an LFP car charged to higher than 70% for a length of time...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

It is quite possible that is the case and that 2.9 is rounded down from 2.94 but 3.1 is rounded up from 3.05, making the disparity seem larger. But assuming an exact 2.90000 seconds for 0-60, 2.9 divided by 60 then multiplied by 6.21 gives 3.0015 which I would think would be advertised as 3.0...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

0-60 MPH in 2.9s is not the same as 0-100 km/hr (62.1 MPH) in 3.1s. At 2.9s 0-60, you're accelerating by 1 MPH every 0.04833 seconds. At 3.1s 0-62.1, you're accelerating by 1 MPH every 0.04992 seconds, roughly 3.28% slower, which seems to match up with the LG vs Panasonic battery differences...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Tesla proudly trumpets 9.23s @155mph quarter mile times for the Model S Plaid. There's a reason they're being silent about the new M3P's quarter-mile times and it has to be one of two things. Either the M3P is too good for roughly half the price of a Model S Plaid and would cannibalize its...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I thought the original Ludicrous package took the 0-60 from 3.2 down to 2.8. This was a $10K option on the P85D IIRC. I'm thinking it's the slightly sleeker LR model allowing it to start to catch-up at the top end. No drag from a spoiler and lighter, more aerodynamic wheels.

    Screen Cover

It comes with a plastic sheet that may or may not still be present when you take delivery. I wouldn't classify it as a screen protector, it's mainly to prevent fingerprints.
  39. BigNick

    Screen locks up!

It can take 20-30 seconds of holding the scroll wheels until the screen blanks. I sure wish Tesla would have programmed it to no more than 5-8 seconds, but I suppose they want to be sure you REALLY want to reboot the touchscreen before doing it.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

IMO 2.9 isn't sufficient improvement to justify the financial hit I would take replacing my low mileage 2022 M3P with a new car. I'd rather take the much smaller hit of buying a set Atomic Wheels AWzz and 18" tires, and get some of that back by selling the Uberheavy/Pirelli combo, which still...

Power trunk retrofit Causes trunk height to be lower

The replacement powered struts are too short for one thing. IMO it looks like Tesla purchased a poorly-engineered aftermarket kit and is selling them as though it is of their own design.

Would it be O.K to leave Model 3 unplugged for 5 weeks?

If you have an LFP battery (newer RWD cars only), charge to 70%. If you have any other type, charge to 55%. Don’t check the car on the app more than once per week (frequently waking up the car will use more energy) and make sure Sentry mode is not in use and you’ll be fine, 5 weeks won’t use...

Charge port door malfunction: should I worry?

The Model 3 charge port door is a huge weakness compared to the original Model S charge port door which was a much simpler design IMO. Edit: it looks like the new S has a similarly dumb design as the 3, so the 3 mechanism must be cheaper than the one originally on the S.

Filing Formal Complaint: 057 Technology Battery Plans

It sucks, but I think everyone involved here is fastened via an inclined plane wrapped helically around an axis. From what I understand the plan sold for $2500 max for an out-of-warranty S (but was also discounted to $2000 for a "limited time".) $2000-$2500 isn't an insignificant amount of...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

"Track" is too generic a term I suppose. Road Course Mode = extra battery cooling for endurance, more regen to minimize brake fade, stiffer overall suspension (assuming some sort of auto-adjustable suspension like on the S) Oval Mode = even more battery cooling for endurance when drafting, zero...
