Driving Electric Cars Produces Little Carbon. Making the Batteries Produces a Lot.

Numbers I've read from several sources are 5-10k miles for parity with typical US grid mix, about 50k miles for 100% coal grid.

Location pin here seems to be wrong. Showing it SE of Dallas, not near Abilene.

    Supercharger - Brinkley, AR

I was there in late June and it seemed fine. We needed to get to 90+% to make it to Miner, MO, so I'm sure glad it wasn't puttering along at 35kW. Was it really hot there? I've had a few tap out due to the heat in the past.

Nope, it's showing ID 39. I tried PC, ipad and phone, all are showing zero. All should be logged out now.

Just got setup with .life today. It is showing zero SCs visited for me. Is there a lag in getting the data to transfer over, or is there a problem with my account?

"Proactive" 12v battery replacement - good idea or overkill?

Mine failed last fall just shy of 3 years. No warning. Left the office and the door opened fine, plopped my computer bag on the passenger seat and noticed that the air hadn't started and the screen didn't light up. Tried button reset but nothing. Had to use the emergency release to get back out...

    J1772 Adapter Melted

I lost an adapter to a public charger a few months ago. Got done charging, pulled the adapter out of the car and tried to get it off of the connector for 15 minutes. No luck. No outside evidence of melting, but I don't know what else could make it stick like that. The worst part is that as I was...

My Supercharging experience... Is this right?

When it is very hot out I have been at SC's that have maxed out at around 38kW. That makes for some very slow charging. Again this is dependent on 1) Temp 2) v2 or v3 SC 3) How crowded the charger is

One last follow up - took some notes on the trip. I have a 2018 LR 3 that currently reads about 288miles at 100%. ABRP claims 3% degradation, and Stats app shows my full capacity to currently be 70 kWhr, for what that's worth. The trip was Dallas to LA (and all over S0CAL for 2 weeks) and back...

About 5 years ago I was crossing over into Windsor from Detroit for business and made the mistake of saying I was going there to work with a customer. So got waved over to step inside and wait in line to have a 15 minute discussion on why I didn't have a work permit. They finally let me cross...

Interesting, I thought 250kW systems were powered to be able to provide the full 250k to all stalls, guess that is not the case... Supercharger - Lindale, Texas

Charged at Lindale last Friday and again today. I had charged there several times in the past (most recent over 2 years ago) and was always the only one charging. On Friday it was full with 2 cars waiting - first time I've ever had to wait anywhere. And as others said, one charger was down...

4680 batteries, what is the advantage?

My guess is they are sitting on a lot of information in order to keep sales of current vehicles moving. Then once introduced, they will likely either software limit the new cars until all with 2170's are delivered, or maybe come out with a "ultra long range" version for more $$. They have to be...

    80mph Limit of Autosteer

Yeah, just did a road trip and can definitely set TACC above 80mph. The 80 limit for FSD definitely sucks on roads with an 80mph limit. Trucks were going 80, which meant either long multi minute passes where you back up traffic, or you need to drop out of AP to pass then reengage.

My Drive - Dallas to Tucson

Did another road trip in my '18 LR 3 over the holidays with a few interesting observations. First, in the past my Wh/mi was generally around 250. On this trip on the way there it was over 350, and about 280 on the way back. Most of my roadtrips before were in the hot summer with no more than 3...

    Supercharger - Denison, TX

This will be nice, but it's still 275 miles to Joplin if you are taking 69 to 44 into Missouri. Henryetta will help, but that's out of the way a bit. Wish they would put one at Checotah at the 69/40 junction instead.

FSD Beta 10.4 - Take Over Immediately/Cruise Control Unavailable

I got that once last week and I also thought it was from the sun. It was about 4:30 on a full sun day and happened right after I had turned a corner putting the sun at a different angle mostly from behind.

    80mph Limit of Autosteer

I am on FSD beta now, and am making a drive from Dallas to Tucson next month. That goes through a whole lot of nothing with many 80mph limits. My car has radar, so I would love it if I could revert back to non-fsd for that trip, then activate again when I get back. I have a feeling I'm going to...

What Would Cause You to Give Up on being part of FSD Beta Testing?

Only had it for a couple of days, but right now my biggest concern is the 80mph limit. I've got a drive next month from Dallas to Tucson. That's thru a whole lot of nothing where I would normally drive a bit faster. I have my offset at +10%, so a 75mph limit would put me at 83.

Any 99 Safety Scores receive FSD Beta yet?

Geez, I wasn't talking about while on AP at all, just that the safety score dings you if you take a corner at any speed above granny mode, or if you are within about 10 car lengths of someone, regardless of speed. When I'm driving I sometimes want to enjoy driving. I had zero AP disengagements...

Any 99 Safety Scores receive FSD Beta yet?

And 2 days later I got the email & installed last night. Will go out for a drive in a bit to check it out. My worry was the note about needing to keep "continued eligibility". Does that mean that they will continue to monitor the safety score? I sure hope not...it was bad enough driving like a...

Is Tesla only good for local driving?

Just got back from a trip from Texas to Michigan and back. No problems at all. What might have taken me about 20 hrs total (if I did splash and dash and picked up fast food to eat in the car) in an ICE takes about 22 with my LR M3. With Autopilot and getting out and walking around for 20-30...

    Supercharger - Waco, TX

Is the Waco charger no longer free? I stopped there on the way to Austin and back this past weekend and have charges on my account both ways. 500 + Mile Range Debate

A typical capacity for 100mi is around 25 kWhr. We're getting to the point where the cost for that will be around $2500, so figure ~$4k price in the not so distant future. I would definitely pay that to get to 500 miles.

    500 + Mile Range Debate

Like I stated before, I would like to be able to travel a real 4 hrs (80 mph, so 320 miles) between stops. We used to do a 3:45-4:15 drive (depending on traffic) to our cabin all the time without stopping with no problem, even when my kids were small. I think there's lots of people that would...

    500 + Mile Range Debate

It's saying 18:13 for the S, though I don't think we have any info on the characteristics of the taper as compared to the 3. I doubt if it is too much better - I expect improvements there with the 4680's.

    500 + Mile Range Debate

I just checked on ABRP for a drive I have coming up - Dallas to Lansing, MI. 18:24 in my LR 3, 22:04 if I had a SR+.
  48. E

    500 + Mile Range Debate

True, it is definitely a lack of a properly placed DC charger. But with the taper as it is today longer range also means faster charging which could knock hours off of a long drive.

    500 + Mile Range Debate

There are rarely times when >300 miles are needed, but they do occur. I have a regular drive where I need to go a quite a bit out of my way to keep on a route that I can make, probably >50 miles more than what I could do it in an ICE, or a car with 400+ mile range. To me to put us on par with...

[UPDATED] 2 die in Tesla crash - NHTSA reports driver seat occupied

There were reports from I believe the BiL that they were going to try out autopilot and the Constable seemed to use this info as proof that nobody was driving. That statement doesn't mean that they were doing it immediately upon leaving the driveway. Most people would get to a reasonably "main"...
