    Replacement Tires for 19" wheels

This bodes well for our planned 1500-mile road trip this Summer :)

    Replacement Tires for 19" wheels

We went down to San Francisco for an early Mother's Day celebration and averaged 262 Wh/m for 141 miles when we arrived. This is an even more significant efficiency improvement than city driving, and I didn't even have the aero covers on! Before the alignment I typically average 266 Wh/m at 65...

    Replacement Tires for 19" wheels

Our MYLR is all stock on 19" Geminis.

    Replacement Tires for 19" wheels

After a few days of driving the same commute I've noticed a consistent 5-6 Wh/m (2.5%) improvement in efficiency after the alignment. The real joy comes from better body control through turns. The Y just stays flatter and more glued to the road now through curves and twists. The alignment...

    Replacement Tires for 19" wheels

Oh, that's right. My fronts just happened to be in spec, according to both America's Tire and Firestone's measurements. It would've been interesting if my fronts were off to see if Firestone could correct it. If my fronts were still in alignment, then I wonder why America's Tire said all four...

    Replacement Tires for 19" wheels

Not sure if it's just my imagination but the car seems to be riding smoother and quieter after the alignment. Definitely not imagined is the higher speed I'm able to carry through turns and curves. There is this stretch of road on the way home from Firestone that I've traversed hundreds of times...

    Replacement Tires for 19" wheels

Firestone finished in about an hour without any issues:

    Replacement Tires for 19" wheels

The previous alignment shop I used in August 2022 also said the same thing, something like "we'd have to bend something to fix the fronts". Odd as they're a well-reviewed and reputable alignment shop and did my Model S before without issue. Part of me regrets getting an alignment on the Y in...

    Replacement Tires for 19" wheels

That will indeed be welcomed, although I didn't think the range was bad to begin with for an ultra-high performance tire (-7.5% vs OEM tire). A slight improvement in Wh/m will bring the DWS06+ on par with the grand touring Pirelli P7 AS+ 3. Ultimately I'd like more balanced grip and handling...

    Replacement Tires for 19" wheels

Just had another tire rotation and tech said detected uneven wear on every tire, 5/32nds inside of each tire vs 7/32nds on the outer edges. This may explain why I feel the DWS06+ isn't gripping as well as expected through turns. I had an alignment done when the tires were new and am a little...

Would you trade in an original MY SR for a new MY?

We had a standard range Raven S that we traded for a Long Range Y and absolutely no regrets. Since you're debating going from SRY to LRY, if it was me I would certainly do it. I like the lower price/instant tax rebate now, extra range, updated MCU, HEPA filter, comfort suspension, etc...but it...

    Replacement Tires for 19" wheels

17,000-mile update comparing OEM tire vs Pirelli P7 AS+ 3 vs DWS06+. Each set of tires was installed in August of 2021, 2022, and 2023 respectively and driven until the following Spring. This helps normalize results across similar commutes, weather, and temperatures. 8/8/2021 - Took delivery of...

Thoughts on Medusa Black wheel covers for Model Y

I have similar trim tools and will give it a try. Thanks and hope it helps.

Thoughts on Medusa Black wheel covers for Model Y

The center cap is a cinch to remove and I apply the same method you describe. The hassle comes after the center cap is off. With the amount of force needed to pull the cover off I have to wear work gloves or else the back edges cut into my hands. Even with gloves on I have to keep pulling and...

Thoughts on Medusa Black wheel covers for Model Y

Enough that it's become a hassle. I rotate tires every 6000 miles and that's every three months. Then there was a flat tire that also needed the cover removed. So by now I've removed a single Medusa cover at least 10 times in six months and it is a PITA. The center cap isn't the issue for me...

Thoughts on Medusa Black wheel covers for Model Y

I hate the locking mechanism on these. They are also very difficult to pull off when rotating tires. I am at the point that I regret getting these and prefer the convenience of the stock aero wheels. The Medusas look better but I always dread when I need to remove them. For me, the hassle isn't...

Supercharger - Fort Bragg, CA (LIVE 21 May 2021, 12 stalls)

It was raining heavily when we arrived and rain is forecasted to return tomorrow. We had about three days of dry pleasant weather. We went out to the cliffs to look for gray whales during their annual migration but have not spotted any yet.

    CCS Adapter Support

Got my Chademo and CCS adapters ready ahead of our trip up the California coast. Stayed in Fort Bragg and explored Avenue of the Giants yesterday and parts of Humboldt State Park. Family had a great time that I detailed more in this post. We started yesterday at 9am with 98% battery, traveled a...

Supercharger - Fort Bragg, CA (LIVE 21 May 2021, 12 stalls)

We are in Fort Bragg now and had a long day yesterday exploring Leggett, Avenue of the Giants, and Humboldt State Park. @Watts_Up, we stayed at the Super 8, which looks rundown on the outside but the room is updated with laminate flooring (no dingy carpet) and very clean, comfortable, quiet. We...

Thanks for sharing, @JayPaul. I reached out to Tesla Service to point out your finding and they refunded me the labor charge. I am also happy to confirm the Chademo adapter I bought last month still works after the retrofit.

    CCS Adapter Support

Confirmed successful charging after CCS retrofit. 1. Home charging worked right after install and software update. 2. V2 Supercharger charged at 109 kW from 28% to 49% SoC, $0.23/kW 3. ElectrifyAmerica in the same parking lot was much more expensive at $0.56/kW and peaked at 100 kW charge rate...

    CCS Adapter Support

Tesla mobile ranger just completed the retrofit and I'm off to test it now! Estimated 55-minute job but he finished it in 15-20 minutes. He mentioned it's easier to access the area than Model S/X. He couldn't do anything about the diagnostic fee and I didn't push it. Final bill was $521.

@TwistedNerv and @gx9901, my CCS retrofit is tomorrow morning. Have either of you completed your service appt? If so, how did it go? Did you test CCS charging yet?

    CCS Adapter Support

Tesla messaged me back and said once the mobile ranger shows up, whatever isn't needed will be removed from the estimate. In fairness, I've seen the Service Center update and remove charges from the original estimate in the past. Excited to get the CCS retrofit completed soon and will provide...

Good points from last two posts. I'll message the Tesla agent and see if they can update the estimate.

    CCS Adapter Support

Tesla just confirmed my mobile appt for the retrofit. Apparently it is going to be $521 for me, possibly because I'm at 56K miles and out of warranty?
  27. F

    CCS Adapter Support

That sucks. It may take a while then for the agents to catch on the service is truly available. Either that or the app is listing the retrofit prematurely before it's ready.

    CCS Adapter Support

Mine is also mobile service with a 4hr window, but my experience is it often defaults to mobile service until the service appt gets reviewed and confirmed by a Tesla agent, at which time it can change to a service center visit. Hopefully mobile ranger can take care of it all in my driveway. 🤞

Thank you for posting this! I scheduled the retrofit for next Thursday. Very excited for this even though I just bought the Chademo adapter, lol. Figures the timing would happen like this but oh well. 😀 I wonder how long the service will take. Hopefully they won't need the car for more than a...

    Retrieve logs in an accident

I don't fault OP's wife for stopping. Just two weeks ago my wife witnessed an accident ahead of her and wanted to stop to share her contact as a witness and provide Teslacam video. Nothing wrong with wanting to stop to help and check on people. You just don't expect to be blamed for being a good...

    Retrieve logs in an accident

In agreeance with earlier posts that your wife has no involvement nor legal responsibility in the collision of two other cars. Your wife avoided an obstacle, not any different than if a ball or dog darted into the street. Everyone else behind your wife is responsible for staying alert and...

Anyone use the OEM front license plate holder?

IIRC, I ordered it precut from RPMTesla: Model 3 & Y Under Front License Plate Protection

Anyone use the OEM front license plate holder?

Same here. I used a small rectangular piece of clear PPF and installed the OEM front license plate over it. Works and looks fine.

    Car wash?

I've taken our 2021 Y through car washes with brushes many times without issue. There's an actual "Car Wash" mode in the service screen that you an use to disable wipers, fold mirrors, etc. Never had any damage nor leaks. I hand washed and babied our previous Model S because it felt more...

    Advice please: Trade-in 2017 MX 100D w/free supercharging for a 2024 MY?

I found the 2017 X ride quality atrocious. We were all set to buy one back then but backed out after a test drive. Even our 2021 Y rides better than those initial model years of the X. Not to mention the rubbing between the FWD and frame of the car. Every X in the lot exhibited contact damage...

Supercharger - Fort Bragg, CA (LIVE 21 May 2021, 12 stalls)

We just go with anything rated 4.0 or above by TripAdvisor, something along the lines of a Holiday Inn. Nothing really fancy for us, just as long as it's safe, clean, and quiet. A couple of places are right along the beach or have EV charging on premises.

    CCS Adapter Support

Good advice and thank you. I checked ahead on PlugShare and ChargePoint and the Chademo station I plan to use (as a backup) shows up as active/healthy with recent activity from others. But you're right, the system could experience an issue just when I need it. I used an EVgo Chademo charger...

We haven't traveled as extensively as you have (bravo to you!) but have taken many roadtrips since our first Tesla in 2019. I managed to purchase a still-new Chademo adapter for $300 from a nice local seller this morning and confirmed it works with our 2021 Model Y. I would've preferred CCS support bit our August 2021-built Y falls within that window of supply chain problems and CCS is "not installed". We are...

Supercharger - Fort Bragg, CA (LIVE 21 May 2021, 12 stalls)

We've been to Fort Bragg before (for Glass Beach) but that was way back before we bought Teslas. Getting to Fort Bragg from Sacramento will be a cinch. However, I am a little concerned with our plans to do a day trip from Fort Bragg to Leggett and then Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Fort Bragg...

    Replacement Tires for 19" wheels

Still loving the tires! At 8700 miles so far on the DWS06+ and averaging 269 Wh/m. This is actually slightly better than the previous Pirelli P7 AS+ 3 Grand Touring tire that was 273 Wh/m at equal 8700 miles. Pirellis were put on in August 2022 and DWS06+ in August 2023, so both sets...
