These dorsal fins aren't new at all. Just look at Audi's competitor for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2011, as one example for their use.
Seriously though, what the hell is this?

I think it's an expensive looking sports car, but not for me. Plus, "Do you want to ride my Yang Wang?" has a *very* different connotation in some parts of the world.

Elon's nothing if not overly optimistic when it comes to the results of a back-of-the-envelope "first principles" physics estimation of how well a thing will turn out.
Let's not forget the solar roof claims! It was going to be CHEAPER than installing a new normal asphalt roof. That was the initial claim. Then he back-pedaled and said cheaper when you consider the cost of electricity it saves you. Then he said cheaper than a new normal roof, with solar panels installed, and considering the cost of electricity it makes for you. Even compared to that, it's still not there, not even at parity, let alone cheaper.
I interviewed for a position with the solar tile team in 2017, when it was based in Marin County, CA. Great group of engineers; I think none of them work on the project any more. Even they were hedging, even back then, on how likely / soon the cost would be competitive.
Not as I recall it. As I recall it, Elon claimed new roof of solar tiles would be cheaper than a new asphalt roof + new solar panels. Even that didn't work out, at which point he added "+ avoided cost of electricity" to try and make the statement vaguely true, and finally added + "similar premium roof" by which he meant slate.

October 28, 2016 at the solar roof event, he said the goal was to have a solar roof that "have an installed cost less than the cost a regular roof plus the cost of electricity; so why would you have anything else?" (EDIT: if you listen to that whole presentation, he repeatedly emphasizes the "why would you have anything else" point. IOW the cost is supposed to be so low that it's a no-brainer, such that eventually all neighborhoods would switch to such a roof. Makes me sad to go back to 2016 and see the days when he was passionate about sustainable energy and reducing our impact on global warming.)
The goal really was to make solar tiles literally cost less than the installation of a regular asphalt roof, plus the cost of electricity that the solar roof would replace. Then they said it would be the cost of the electricity + asphalt roof installation + equivalent sized solar panels installation. Then he changed asphalt roof to premium roof, i.e. slate tiles.

I have no clue. But there are quite a few in my area, where people love to throw away their money. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big proponent of solar and the original concept of the solar roof tiles Tesla/Elong proposed in Oct. 2016. But the current product is nothing like the one they unveiled in 2016, and its cost is prohibitively high; like laughably high. It is just not worth the cost currently, IMO. I'm ballparking here, but in most regions, I estimate one can get a quality asphalt roof, with equivalent energy generation from Tesla panels, for about 1/3 the cost of their solar roof product. I mean, that's just wildly off the mark, 7.5 years after the original unveiling. So sad. But hey we have FSD supervised! Yay!

It's a bummer the new Roadster never got built. I had a Founders reservation and cancelled it after about 18 months of waiting and no news. I think there's a market for a high end electric sports car. I'd love a car that can drive itself to the track and then can handle a day of fun. I guess what I want is an electric 911.
