    2022 Model S Base versus 2024 Model 3 LR

I think 300 miles of range with the supercharger network is plenty. I got by on ~240 with my P85D. A few times I wish I had more, but 300 is plenty. Difference in tire costs over the lifetime of the car will be negligible compared to depreciation. Check insurance rates as well. I think the...

Charging at home at 16 amps instead of 32

If it's voltage droop, the car may cut current by 25% to maintain the charge, not 50%. A tracking service like TeslaFi will log the charging amp/voltage every 60 seconds and see what's happening. If the receptacle "wears out" it is likely to overheat, the gen2 UMC will notice this and should...

Full FSD Free Trial: Why I'd never buy it . . . ever.

Their system is pretty (very) restrictive on where it can be activated for that level of autonomy, but at least they're pushing the envelope: https://www.techspot.com/news/102705-mercedes-benz-launches-first-level-3-autonomous-vehicles.html I would settle for a pretty good level 2 that allows...

What do you think caused this electrical fire?

My gen1 UMC was (and still is) mounted to the wall for strain relief and I still melted my Leviton outlet. The Utilitech is still going without issue over 2 years later, though as I mentioned I normally charge at 32A these days unless I need a slightly quicker top off.

Automatically set suspension to high when parking.

In addition, the car would have no idea if you're parking or just coming to a stop for a traffic light. A front camera would be more useful to avoid curbs. A potentially useful, free feature would be to have the car auto raise to its highest setting after you've put the car in park. This has...

Suggestions on protecting the USB stick?

I've used one of these for the past 2 years - not in the glovebox, but in the center console. It barely sticks out so no issues with accidentally knocking it out or damaging the port: https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-Ultra-Flash-Drive/dp/B07855LJ99/

So few Teslas for sale on TMC?

Admins could eliminate for sale thread crapping by not allowing replies in for sale threads by anyone but the seller. If you want to contact the seller, PM them. Though since admins have also set a minimum post count requirement to PM someone, that also restricts who can interact with the...

So few Teslas for sale on TMC?

I sold my 2015 here back in Feb of 2023. I also had it listed on Autotrader, CL, and maybe cars.com. I had a few interested parties from the other sites but no deal. It was free to list here back then, but I'd probably pay the $5 when it's time to part ways with my 2019. In the grand scheme...

    Model S Rear seat squeaking

If it's a squeak, it's more likely to be the leather. If it's a rattle, I'd check the latch. My 2015 front seat squeaked where the bolster rubbed against the center console. Shin Etsu grease worked great for eliminating the squeak. I applied it to the two pieces that were rubbing against...

Three out of four 21" turbine rims cracked within a couple of months

I can recommend 20" wheels. I've been running 20" TSW Turbinas since 2020 without issue. Handling is a bit sharper than the 19s. It's true that forged wheels can be better, but they're not necessary. Just don't buy the cheapest cast wheels you can find.

FSD take rate after free trial 2%

Pretty cool. That's basically how Ford's Blue Cruise operates, and in a lot of cases I preferred it as I was able to make my own lane changes since I could do them more quickly. AP lane changes can be far too conservative and miss openings in traffic to change lanes, or sometimes just sit...

    Input on wheel design?

They kinda remind me of a super aggressive version of the factory wheels on my girlfriend's Crosstrek. I've never been a fan of the contrasty painted/machined wheels, but almost all OEMs have some form of this, presumably because the public likes them. But then again they say everyone likes...

    No Cabin Air Filter

I wonder why they even have two filters. I'm not sure of the HVAC plumbing, but I thought all air went through the HEPA filter which should be more than enough filtration.

    Cybertrucks are WIDE!

Yep, full size trucks suck in parking lots. It's one of the main reasons I sold my Lightning which is the same width as the CT.

Model S LR vs Plaid for Second Model S

I think the difference in power will be mostly seen under 20mph and over 40. The LR is nerfed off the line, and the plaid can't put all of its power down until much higher speeds. Even the raven performance cars can keep up with the plaid pretty well on the street until 50-60 due traction...

    HEPA filter replacement

Replacement interval is 3 years or so. Is it $400 now? I had mine replaced a year ago for $259, including $39 for labor. The filter is huge, much bigger than your typical cabin filter.

    Sound upgrade 2013 sig

No problem on the pre-refresh cars. They are still 12v. I had about 1500w split between two amplifiers connected to the 12v battery in my 2015. Ran great for 3 years before I sold it.

    2016 S P90DL Wh/mi - What to Expect ?

I think my P85D averaged 320wh/mi over the 3 years I had it, mixed with 20" wheels on AS3+ tires and MXM4s. I would not expect to get under 300wh/mi on longer trips unless they're in the summer over relatively flat ground or descending a mountain.

    2019/20 Raven Long Range Differences?

Depending on how many miles you tend to put on a car, you may end up with a shorter battery/DU warranty period on the newer car since it already has 88k miles. I believe the 2020 cars had 8 year / 150k miles warranty. That gives you ~14k miles a year to play with before you hit 150k miles...

Full FSD Free Trial: Why I'd never buy it . . . ever.

I'm not an outlier here. Following at such absurd distances, especially while in the passing lane, is less safe as it turns you into a rolling chicane as you are perceived to not be moving with the flow of traffic. Plus, as I said, an ADAS system does not need the 3/4 second reaction time that...

Full FSD Free Trial: Why I'd never buy it . . . ever.

I'm not complaining about the speed. It could be better, sure, but it's not the main fault. Speed is relative to what traffic is doing, and it's the chief benefit of TACC. If speed and gap is easy, it is a shame they are sacrificing it for whatever they're doing now. A bus length is not the...

Full FSD Free Trial: Why I'd never buy it . . . ever.

That's the thing - FSD should be better at this since it doesn't have to deal with a human's long reaction time to hit the brakes. Instead it dawdles along leaving a gap large enough for a bus to cut you off. I've said this before: EAP is better at highway following, AP1 is best. Stop and go...

    2019/20 Raven Long Range Differences?

Not sure if this is just a wording issue, but the 2019 ravens aren't capped at 150kw. I've done over 175kw at a V3 station, tapering to 150kw around 35%. V2 superchargers are capped at 150kw regardless of the car plugging in.

    2019 Model S Raven vs 2024 M3P?

I'd miss the raven's adaptive air suspension in a few cases, but I would probably be able to get by. The lack of a gauge cluster is also annoying, though there is an aftermarket for that. However, the stalkless, capacitive button design can shove off. It will be a better comparison once there...

Why the extremely large Supecharger sites?

Perhaps there is some level of experimental deployment here (covered, solar, megapack) and having a lot of redundancy allows them to try things without impacting dozens of people charging. If they threw a site like this in a more populated area and something went awry, there would be a lot more...

    FSD now $8,000. Who's buying?

Might have something to do with the camera. Tesla figured they didn't need them in the earlier cars and now their owners are paying the price for their hubris. They've really ruined the system. Other automakers such as Ford have excellent driver monitoring cameras that allow for hands free...

    FSD now $8,000. Who's buying?

I just tried it a week ago. Is there something newer than this? If so, it's not available to me. The nagging that occurs after less than a second is also infuriating as you cannot even reach for the wipers or change hands without the system freaking out, though that's not unique to FSD - just...

EAP owners.. are you spending $2k to get FSD?

Nope, I even turned FSD off during the free trial and went back to EAP. I found FSD too annoying to use.
  32. beatle

    FSD now $8,000. Who's buying?

This is exactly why FSD has no value to me. While I will not backseat drive a friend, cabbie, or bus driver unless a crash appears imminent or they're going to miss a turn, I find myself quickly taking over for FSD if it is too slow, too fast, or is not choosing the lane I believe is optimal...
  33. beatle

    FSD now $8,000. Who's buying?

I tried it out during the trial and disabled it. The following distance is too far and people think you're dawdling, then they cut you off or attempt to pass you on the right. This is with the distance set to minimum and most aggressive. EAP is better at following, but AP1 was better still...

Thinking of selling my plaid and going back to 2020 P100d

I went for a raven after my P85D. Don't think I'll move to a plaid though. There are some improvements that can't be made to the older car such as charging speed, power above 60mph, a more powerful MCU, and ventilated seats. However, you can improve the stereo and add wireless charging to the...

Tesla FSD is finally Real for $99/month

I think being able to subscribe to something for $99/mo is much more palatable and a good move by Tesla, but I'm not sold on FSD after trying it out. I only care about enabling it on highways and being able to change lanes without disabling it like EAP, but its following manners are too...

Tesla Model S 2018 aftermarket base audio speaker upgrade

I actually didn't run my own wires, the shop that installed the amp/DSP did, so I don't know what they pulled as source signal. They ran new wires from the amp/DSP back to the tweeter/dash midrange speakers, and they spliced into the wires leading to the midbass speakers in the doors, so the...

what's the subscription FSD rate for people with existing EAP?

After trying out FSD, I'd pay to go back to EAP. FSD has lousy highway behavior and leaves an enormous following gap even on the most aggressive setting compared to AP/EAP. Basic AP will be closer to EAP than FSD is, just without lane changes. You can set FSD to "minimal lane changes" which I...

    FSD now $99 a month

The good news is that AP1 is still superior to the current cars' behavior on the highway where most of the value of ADAS exists. I'd retrofit AP1 in a heartbeat if it were possible to get back good following behavior, radar reassurance in poor visibility, and a radical reduction in nags.

    Lower Subscription Price Coming?

Would be nice if they offered an EAP subscription. If I were buying a new or used car that didn't have it, I'd consider subscribing to EAP for $100/mo. FSD has zero value to me.

I've been on 2024.2.7 since 4/1. April Fools on me since I never got the trial and the new nag-laden version really blows. Had been holding onto 2023.44.1 for 4 months and wish I never upgraded.

    Will legacy ever see V12?

Yes, it's a small percentage relative to the swarm of 3s and Ys, but that small percentage still amounts to YEARS' worth of cars that are ineligible. It's not the quantity so much as the length of time that the cars were built and sold with the promise of the feature.

All US Cars capable of FSD will be enabled for one month trial this week

My car has EAP and I have no interest in having the car drive itself on secondary streets so I have no interest in buying FSD. I'm just miffed that I was tricked into upgrading off the superior legacy software version earlier than I'd planned to get a free sample of what everyone seems to be...

All US Cars capable of FSD will be enabled for one month trial this week

The f'ers got me. Despite my 2019 having the "full self driving computer" it's not actually FSD capable. I read in another thread that Tesla meant to say that it's actually just for cars with the selfie camera. Nice trick to get me off the pre-nag-ridden 44.1 I'd been holding onto since...

    Great Latest Update

I hadn't read that, but maybe that's why I still haven't received an email about the trial. Now it really makes me wish I'd stayed on the version before the extra nags showed up. The new naggy version is such trash. I cannot even take my hand off the wheel to adjust the wipers, or switch...
