The driving map is most likely not graphical. It is probably just a database with things like GPS coordinates and road information (number of lanes, stop sign locations, etc.).

Tesla recalls 2 million vehicles to limit use of Autopilot

Motor Trend chimes in with their evaluation of the updated software: What Changed After the Tesla Autosteer Recall? Not Much.

Tesla recalls 2 million vehicles to limit use of Autopilot

So only two non-factual statements by your review of the article. It’s quite a long article, so that seems pretty good to me. Based on your prior comments it sounded like the article was rife with errors. When I read the phrase “took the wheel”, I didn’t interpret it as the car forcibly taking...

I’m curious as to which parts of the article you did not factual. I didn’t see any glaring errors, but clearly I have not reviewed the article as closely as you.

Tesla recalls 2 million vehicles to limit use of Autopilot

He does go on to say, “After digging around Tesla’s website, I discovered that Tesla saysobeying stop signs and stop lights is a function included for those who pay for Full Self-Driving.” So he specifically calls out the distinction you are asking for. Most of the general public thinks...

Tesla recalls 2 million vehicles to limit use of Autopilot

Seems like the author discovered that the same way as all new users do. I don’t see anything nefarious about those quotes. The target audience is people who don’t own Teslas and are not familiar with how it operates, so that must be explained to the audience.

New year now. Any guesses on when fully autonomous Teslas will be predicted for the “end of this year?” 😁

Poll is current hardware sufficient for full self driving?

Current Teslas are not Level 3, they are Level 2. Level 2 is "driving assist," the human in the driver's seat is responsible at all times.

Tesla recalls 2 million vehicles to limit use of Autopilot

In an L4 or L5 car, there is no requirement for anyone to even be in the car, so you have to think about the minimum safe requirements in that situation as well. The car hits a deer when there isn’t any one in the car, what does it need to do. It can’t rely on a human taking over.

    Disable FSD

Something like that. :) In any case, a car can always be disabled by removing the air from the tires and/or putting the car up on blocks.

    2023 S/W Holiday Update

Actually it was the bean counters at Tesla that made that decision. Other car manufacturers are using sensors that detect when the driver is holding the wheel without requiring torquing the wheel.

    2023 S/W Holiday Update

Well, first well hear about how it is a “quantum leap” over version 11, and then we’ll hear about the problems, then the complainers will be chastised for being “Tesla shorts”, finally we’ll hear about version 13 coming in a couple weeks, it’s a complete rewrite, and our cars will be fully self...

    Cruise

Just to add on that L4 and L5 do not need a human in the car at all. Think of the situation where a robotaxi has just dropped off a fare and is enroute to the next fare. Or your L4 personal car has just dropped you off at work and then goes to find a parking spot.

    FPL Advertisement about EV charging

Going from memory, so I could be wrong, but I think the agreement spells out the costs by referencing the rate sheet without calling out a specific price. So there is a way for FPL to change pricing without modifying the agreement. Like I said earlier, I don’t think they are going to do...

    FPL Advertisement about EV charging

I would take that statement with a grain of salt. The EV charging rates are listed on the official FPL rate sheet. Right now, the off peak rate is listed as zero cents. At any time they request a rate adjustment from the state they could make that rate higher. I don't think they currently have...

When will 11.4.7 (2023.7.30) gain the features in the 2023.26.xx branch? It’s been a long time without the additions of numerous features.

    Autonomous Car Progress

If/when the barriers to entry get that low, the market will be flooded with Tesla robotaxis and the competition will drive the price down so low that it will no longer be profitable. People will use it to get a "free car" by having the fares pay for it, but will end up with a worn-out abused...

OK. You may want to pass that message on to Elon. :D Just to refresh, this was the original post I was referring to: Your claim was that the “vast majority of people” would not benefit from a “city-only” approach. My point was that this approach is perfectly fine since a “vast majority”...

Of course, but there is a high probability that any given start and end point of a trip will be in a city. Plus, the average driver only drives 29 miles per day.

    FPL Advertisement about EV charging

You'll be OK. I had a hard wired Tesla wall charger on a 60A breaker and they removed the Tesla charger from the wall and installed the FPL one in it's place. They did make me change the 60A breaker down to a 50A breaker, but that's fine since the FPL charger maxes out at 40A. I'm paying $31/month.

That, of course, is the goal, but it appears that currently the car’s “memory” is less than a second. You can see this when you are sitting at an intersection behind another car. Watch the cross traffic disappear as the car loses sight of the cross traffic. The predictive capabilities are...

    Autonomous Car Progress

If y’all just scroll back a few posts, the question was “Is Merc planning to do the same?” From the article I linked, Mercedes is indeed planning on raising the speed in which the car will allow L3 operation. No one said it was doing it today. Please continue to go about your day.

    FSD Beta v11.x

    FSD Beta v11.x

The concern is mainly that current owners of the FSD software will no longer own the car by the time the software is viable. This is a legitimate concern at the current rate of software development.
