Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I think mine might have to be red, when I get around to placing an order. And it might have to be a Plaid. 🤨

    Model 3 Performance/Ludicrous Waiting Room

I might need one of those filter clips if it actually works. Maybe I can print one at work and give it a try…

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

That looks every bit as fast as a C8 to me, even faster than a lot of the C8 runs I’ve seen.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

9.32 60-130 if I calculated it right. How slow is it on the current car again?

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I would expect the OEM setup to provide more range due to lower frontal area resulting in less total drag, but that's probably going to be dependent on the design of the 19" wheels you're buying. I could see a set of 19" EV01+ wheels or similar aero-efficient wheels actually doing better despite...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

“Terminal understeer” isn’t safer. That’s every bit as bad as terminal oversteer. Understeer is safer for general population drivers because they don’t have the skill to deal with an oversteer situation, it’s literally that simple.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I can be rather exhausting to post here... So is it your contention that the fastest lap time ever set in an M3P or a Plaid has been done on factory-sized tires? Nobody has reduced a lap time with wider tires on track? Sometimes an elementary question, such as, “why would he say it’s...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Tire contact patch limits our ability to accelerate in any direction. This is why the new M3P has wider tires in back. The 235 width tire was a limiting factor slowing acceleration in the old car, so one way they made it faster is to add more tire. You can do that to make cars turn better too...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It’s the weight of the car. 235 is small for the weight we carry.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Yeah man. I had the exact same thought when I went and tested the highland LR. I wouldn’t even be considering a new P if it wasn’t for the tax benefit making it more attractive as a purchase.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

…and that makes leasing the best option for folks who would be upgrading to a newer Tesla in a couple/few years anyway.

Highland suspension on 2019 Model 3

Parts to retrofit the new suspension to the previous performance cars?

    Hankook Ion Evo Summer Tire

That's awesome! I've got about 3k on my ion evo all-seasons and they're pretty quiet but I have noticed a howling sound from the tires over the grooved concrete we have in some places on the southern california highways. That was not present with any of the previous sets of tires I've used on...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

In this particular case, where I’m daydreaming of something that doesn’t exist, the idea is that less weight on the front wheels helps with steering feel and response. Since I don’t really care how fast my car is but just want to have an engaging experience, I’d be fine without a drive unit up...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

For my next trick, I’ll attempt another complete thread derail: I want a performance oriented lightweight. M3 size with MS hatch and beauty. (Clearly the S is gorgeous, just large) Give it a single Plaid motor in the rear and bearings in place of bushings in the suspension, along with the new...
