All fine and dandy until one goes bad and you have to junk the MC/WC. The temp sensor in parents' Gen 2 WC crapped out and reports overtemp, even on a <50F morning when it has been unplugged all night.

Core charge laws vary by state. @Fourdoor needs to confirm if not in CA, especially if a long distance from the SC. I'd be pretty PO'ed if I drove two hours to pick up a battery and got charged an extra $20 for a core after counting on the opinion of someone 1000's of miles away in another state.

I assumed you were trying to protect it from passengers or people borrowing the car, not the owner/driver. Does the trunk work? You could use a cigarette lighter to USB-C power cord in the accessory outlet behind the left rear wheel.

I picked up my Y in Paramus on 9/13/23. I scanned the docs on 9/25/23 (based on the file date; wanted to keep a copy). I waited until October to register, in hopes of saving a month of fees and getting a 16-month inspection (vs 4 months), but that didn't work (had to re-inspect 2/24).

Bigger is not necessarily better. Resistive (heating) losses increase with the square of current (P=I^2*R). As you increase charge current, there's a point where energy wasted due to heating will outpace energy saved from go to sleep earlier.

Thanks for the nudge to go all the way! Although, in hindsight, I think the people who stopped at 91 rest areas just inside the zone of totality did it right. Watch the eclipse from the rest area, then get out before the endless wave of traffic hits.
