Should I update from my 2021.4.18 since I have FSD?

Sweet thanks, I guess I’ll sit tight until FSD gets better. The only defeat device I’ve used is a wheel weight when solo driving super long straight freeways. Definitely not a good idea to use defeat devices on LA freeways as construction and randomly ending lanes is bonkers.

Should I update from my 2021.4.18 since I have FSD?

I have a 2019 and the development cycle was so rapid back then I would frequently get exposed to random regressions upon update so I stopped updating once I had a solid version that was stable and predictable on the freeway. Initially it was a temporary pause as I would read user opinions...

Should I update from my 2021.4.18 since I have FSD?

So I’m still sitting on an old 2021 version pre-V11 because I love not being wheel and camera nagged. However, I do have FSD and it’s come a long way. The majority of my driving is SoCal freeways and it would stink if I can’t be as casual as I am today going up and down the freeway. Can I...

Going solar is the best thing I did after Model 3

I had to use their live chat and email system. Once you get an email response you just have to be super logical. I had to tell Tesla to use their optical imaging sensors - aka eyeballs - and read the documents. They may farm work out to 3rd parties who have no clue what’s going on.

Going solar is the best thing I did after Model 3

I live in San Diego and we have the most ridiculous electricity/gas prices in the nation. Before solar I spent my home life thinking about power by not running or delaying the dishwasher, laundry, AC, etc. Power bills could easily be in the 3-400s just running AC. Not that I couldn’t afford it...

I’m still on 2021.4.18 and I have FSD. Should I update?

bumping to see if FSD is much improved that it's worth leaving my 2021 version that has no eye tracking and predictable highway FSD?!
  7. SanDiegoM3

Analyzing and improving heat pump energy usage

Probably the best short-term solution. Like boosting the AC in super-off or off-peak further than you would normally go to carry the house forward.

Anyone ever motorized their Tesla panels to move?

Sure, but with NEM 3.0 people may desire getting more out of the panels they have and can’t add more panels lest they lose their NEM 2.0.
  9. SanDiegoM3

Anyone ever motorized their Tesla panels to move?

I’m curious, has anyone ever built a custom mount setup that allows their panes to elevate, tilt, or rotate after they’ve been installed? Think some custom lifters that would allow an east facing panel to elevate and face west as the day progresses. I have panels mounted west, east, and south...

    Hot or Not?

It’s a new thread to see if your solar is up to par! This pic is a San Diego perfect Sunday March 26 on a 7.2kw system. I have no idea if it’s good or bad but my friend says it’s solid!

Proper arbitrage California NEM 2.0? (SDGE)

Good to know. I may finally have a good enough reason to update my Tesla from an April 2021 firmware because the older software doesn't support mobile app adjustment for amps, and therefore chargeHQ doesn't either! So, to charge my car by solar and avoid NBCs I have to manually adjust the amps...

Proper arbitrage California NEM 2.0? (SDGE)

If I’m expected to over produce power, and given that wholesale rates are close or over NBCs is the adage of always better to consume what I produce out the window? Should I charge my Tesla overnight at super off peak even with the NBCs since I expect I’ll be getting a check from SDGE next year...

    CPUC NEM 3.0 discussion

You shouldn't be on EV-TOU5 if you have solar, you should be on EV-TOU2. That being said, since 2018 SDGE has increased the spread from super off peak to peak on EV-TOU2 from 2.35x to 2.92x. The spread for EV-TOU5 is relatively stable fluctuating back and forth between 5.7x in 2018 to 6.4x in...

How long between inspection and PTO? [various areas]

San Diego, installed on a Friday then inspection next Friday, SDGE only needed a pic of meter with placard today and achieved PTO today. So, less than two weeks from install to live.

Adding more panels to Tesla system after installed?

I get installed on Friday haha. I don’t think I should make changes now or I could miss the deadline.
  17. SanDiegoM3

Adding more panels to Tesla system after installed?

Interesting, what about If solar improves massively in future technology where it makes sense to swap out a couple panels while staying under the 10% NEM 2.0 allowable increase.
  18. SanDiegoM3

Adding more panels to Tesla system after installed?

Sure. I get all that, but I’m looking for technical limitations and whether I would need a completely separate 4.8kw or something system and properly planning it when there’s an in-place system or am I just being a lunatic the sky is falling NEM 3.0 person when I have a 7.2kwh getting installed.
  19. SanDiegoM3

Adding more panels to Tesla system after installed?

Hey everyone! So I have an install date for Friday on a 7.2kwh system but I want the option to future proof myself on NEM 2.0 by getting a permit for more panels just in case I get a second EV, add a pool/hot tub, etc. What’s the best way to add-on to a Tesla system? Do I have to go through...

San Diego: CCA and solar install on Friday - do I stay with CCA, do I have a choice? Other noob questions

Here's a useful CCA link for anyone in the future. https://sdcommunitypower.org/programs/net-energy-metering/ I don't yet know how the credits/charges provided monthly necessarily work yet, though you CAN go to an annual true-up with the CCA. One part I don't like about being billed monthly as...

San Diego: CCA and solar install on Friday - do I stay with CCA, do I have a choice? Other noob questions

Hi everyone! I'm getting my Tesla solar installed on Friday and I'm currently on EV-TOU-5 and I'm in the CCA instead of SDGE. Is there any practical difference between being with the CCA versus SDGE? If there is, do I have the option to swap to SDGE as part of going solar, or maybe after...

Tesla replacing ultrasonic sensors with Tesla Vision

I own Tesla stock and I would say your guess is as good as mine. In my my professional opinion I think Tesla hides supply chain or profitability problems behind press releases. Removing USS? We're so good we don't need them, but we can't release the software showing how good we are. Removing...

  25. SanDiegoM3

I’m still on 2021.4.18 and I have FSD. Should I update?

So I’m on this old version because the highway autopilot has been very predictable, radar, 90mph autopilot, no interior camera, now no cheat device detection, and previous UI. I have FSD but Tesla is offering 2022.44.30.5. If I cover the camera during highway driving (plane old NOA or not)...

Buying a house - school me on Tesla solar and Powerwall, TOU, SDGE, best inverters, etc.

What's up everyone. Am I okay going with Tesla for solar and PowerWall and what pitfalls, equipment, and installation issues should I know about? I'm closing on a house in 10 days and I'm starting from zero on the original electrical panel and a roof that I'm replacing on the seller's dime. I...

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

Interesting. I think there are other posts in this thread that speak to how comparing eyes to resolution is hard because most of our high res is in the center like you say. When we need to get super high res we intensely focus on the center and discard a lot of noise from other areas we may have...

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

Weird they would put higher res cameras when the current are fully capable of FSD. That costs more money and Elon doesn’t like to waste money!
  29. SanDiegoM3

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

I agree with you there. It’s actually an easier fix than trying to solve the b-pillar camera problem, but the problem will still exist where a driver would need to lean forward to get a visual of the road without putting the car in the road - as that can cause an accident.

Elon implies Tesla will be worth nothing if L4 (minimum) isn’t achieved

Two more weeks! Let’s be honest, he’s never going to achieve level 4 on the current FSD hardware. They need to retrofit new cameras and MAYBE they don’t need to install new camera locations. More megapixels means the computer needs to be more powerful as well to handle all the new pixels.

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

Please tell me the misquote: "Next year for sure, we will have over a million robotaxis on the road," said Musk on October 21, 2019. "The fleet wakes up with an over-the-air update. That's all it takes."
  33. SanDiegoM3

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

How many of his videos have you watched? I've watched them since they came out. The last version made him turn right every time instead of even attempting to turn left, that's a regression back to the BEGINNING.
  34. SanDiegoM3

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

You realize I'm not on V11, I'm on V10 and there's no such thing as a permanent strike on my version. Which, if you were honest you would know. What benefits do I get by not updating? No eye camera tracking, smooth-consistent-predictable highway AP, radar based cruise/AP that is better than...

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

Even random users who aren't in this thread come across the same obvious flaws. It's odd that people defend a design flaw, as if Tesla is infallible. https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/posts/6769800/

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

I watched the video with the car pulling into the road unsafely, leaving itself stuck in the road (not median) as it waited for oncoming traffic to pass - but forgetting it could get annihilated staying in the road like it did, etc. Did you even watch the video?
  37. SanDiegoM3

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

It's not the bet because Tesla said the car was FSD ready. A MILLION robot axis on the road in 2021! Anyone with a brain could tell the side cameras were a severe weak point with a wide angle 720p resolution camera, it only took me a month or two of ownership in 2019 to figure that out. It...
  38. SanDiegoM3

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

That’s not the bet. Elon and Tesla engineers said the existing vehicle is fully capable of full self driving at the robo taxi level without an attendant. The latest update is objectively worse than some of the past versions that were more timid but didn’t create such risky situations. People...

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

I can absolutely see further and clearer than the side cameras. Without a doubt. I can also predict better than the software can currently. I can plot what lane oncoming traffic is. I can preposition myself to be successful. You’re overly simplifying complex visuals, thinking, prediction, and...

Would you pay more for a used radar M3 versus new vision one?

Would anyone pay more for an older Tesla than a newer one if the older one had radar and stopped updating?
  41. SanDiegoM3

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

Tesla having to continue to try new ricks to get the latency down? When you add more cameras you need more processing power. If you increase resolution you require more processing power. More frames per second equals more processing power. In my view it mostly comes down to an ability to see...

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

I don’t think it’s final boss level at all. It’s an unprotected four lane highway where cars can likely go 50-55mph, a typical country road speed. The cameras can’t see far enough, the computer can’t process it fast enough, and the car can’t do the maneuver quick enough. At 55mph, a vehicle...
  43. SanDiegoM3

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

Massive regression. It’s possible chuck could’ve been killed had either he or the oncoming vehicles not intervened or made evasive maneuvers. 0:56 creeping into traffic 2:20 creeping into traffic 3:05 likely would’ve been hit by middle lane based on timid behavior 5:20 potential t-bone 5:55 no...

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

Uhhh yeah that’s not true. All you have to do is watch the YouTube guy who does all the unprotected lefts in the beta. He would literally get demolished in the latest version. In fact, it’s so unusable that Tesla should be thankful every day that it doesn’t have some drunk idiot using FSD to...

I stopped updating at 2021.4.18 and I have FSD - you maybe should have too

Lol everyone is trashing the UI now. All the common controls like wipers, heated seats, defog/defrost, trip meter, tire pressure, etc. are hidden behind menus or no longer a card that stays up. No heated seats without climate control being on. Just lol. I swear to god my car is appreciating...

I stopped updating at 2021.4.18 and I have FSD - you maybe should have too

As cool as it is to be at the forefront of tech I’ve learned over the past 2.5 years that when I found a solid version it’s always best to hold onto that version until it’s massively beneficial to update. If I update now I get: - Massively more annoying driver attentiveness monitoring -...

Using FSD off highway is suicide

  48. SanDiegoM3

Using FSD off highway is suicide

Watch the video below and use the skip ahead 10 seconds feature throughout until you get to the unprotected lefts. Frankly, it’s shocking that three front facing cameras couldn’t discern oncoming traffic speed and the time to complete the necessary maneuvers. He had to stop the car several...
