    Choosing a 2022 or 2018 M3LR AWD

Battery warranty on both is 120k miles, but the 2018 will also expire in 2026 assuming you stay under that mileage. I love my 2019. I have heard of some recent problems with and getting parts to repair PTC heaters if they fail. If this remains true, it would be a vote in favor of the 2022...

    General Altimax RT43 --> RT45

Just wanted to post a long term update on the General Altimax RT43 tires on 18" Aero wheels. Tires have a UTQG of 700 and a mileage warranty of 70,000. These are long lasting tires on a car famous for going through tires quickly. It's not difficult for me to believe these tires when...

VCFRONT_a447 in a 23 MYLR need to go on a quick trip 200+ miles, okay to drive?

For me it would really depend whether you have working heat or not and forecast temperatures when you're driving. Windshields tend to fog terribly under 40°F with no heat and you'll end up driving with a window open. You're a danger to yourself and others if the windshield fogs inside, IMO.

    Tesla Charging Adaptor (SAE J1772)

Your EVSE is failed. Part of the purpose for the "release" button on an EVSE is to open the contact to the high voltage to your EVSE's plug. The whole purpose for it is to monitor a resistance across two signal pins and then (and only then) enable a relay that energizes the 120/240V pins in...

Tesla "Service" Strikes AGAIN (200th time)

Unfortunately this is by design and isn't exclusive to Tesla. Had same experience with GM, which updates a warmer exterior temperature immediately, but doesn't update a colder exterior temperature for 15 minutes. At least in the Tesla case, the temperature does slowly and gradually trend...

Chicago area superchargers failing in cold

Was looking for details on this beyond the news story. Sounds like telematics failed and stations showed empty when there were lines at a couple. I guess Oak Brook was the one in the video.

2023 Model Y Puck size (austin build)

The puck centering knobs that I 3D printed for my Model 3 years ago were 25.7mm and fit snugly enough to hold the puck in easily. So snugly in fact that I've driven away with one still attached and had opportunity to grab it 10+ miles later when I remembered that I didn't put it away. I...

    Supercharger - New Albany, OH

Will be great to see this one get built. I was very near the location today but didn't know where to look. I had to divert 15 miles west of here to Worthington Campus View through a traffic laden beltway today to get enough charge to go back east.

    AltiMAX RT43 Installed today.

Just providing some late follow-up for anyone interested in RT43 or now RT45 General Altimax tires. My tires have made it to 60k miles and could have probably done a little better with more attention to rotation. I went a little long this last time between rotations and am nearly at the wear...

Green light chime stopped working completely

Sorry to bring back a zombie thread, but I'm experiencing the same behavior. No more green light chimes and very intermittent Home Link since software 2023.32.7. I'm installing 32.9 now with the hopes this is resolved.

This spot is great placement on the interstate, although the Sheetz has a bit of an odd traffic pattern to get to, and from memory the lot is pretty crowded already. I pass through and would probably take advantage monthly.

I'm not sure you have the right idea about what problem V2G is trying to solve. V2G will need to work hand-in-hand with utility programs to help peak-shave load to be useful. Deployed and used in a fleet, it could substantially help the grid if there are incentives built-in for consumers to...

They can do this because they're not counting on (as many) third party suppliers for integrated components. 48v will virtually guarantee that they won't be able to get a component off the shelf today.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

That was a neat math experiment. A busy supercharger isn't a reasonable expectation to go off-grid. The quantities are just too big. Lets say the average high load is 1MW for a set of 4-8 stalls, you'd want a 4MWh battery bank and probably 1MW of solar to be off grid. That's 2000 - 500w...

Going the other direction and saying it wasn't EA's fault. Why would Tesla take the liability to allow Rivians (this example) to charge on their network if it was a vehicle failure causing the charger to let its smoke out?

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I think its naive to believe that the EV mandates will impact anyone beyond consumers. Legacy auto manufacturers will be propped up to support the Defense industry if nothing else. I don't see an all-electric warfare in our future, and we can't lose our ability to easily create chassis for...

The real point being that just like mainstream auto is trying to milk the last little bit of profit from the ICE, Toyota also benefits from milking the hybrid drivetrain for all its worth as quickly as they can. Understandably until recently they had the technological advantage over everyone...

Is my 3 sucking juice all day to maintain 80%?

I highly recommend the Emporia Vue to monitor your energy use on multiple circuits in the house. I used a cheap clamp-on ammeter to determine which circuits would be best to monitor, and the Vue gives you 8 to 16 possible inputs to look at. For a 2 EV household, we find that charging...

    Electricity Cost Spikes

Good thing is Natural Gas prices cratered in the last month from roughly $10/therm to about $3/therm. Depending on how long term your utility’s natural gas contracts are for, they might see some benefit and be able to pass it along. 46 cents is unreal.

I keep listening and not hearing anything about a plan for V2G/V2L complimenting Stationary Storage and what Tesla's plans are around that. I really believe the country will need to figure that out in in 2025 and shortly thereafter to support retiring utility generation.

Cargo cover not as good as expected

This Z folding shelf was in the 2023 model I demo drove a few weeks ago. I was impressed with how thick and well built it seemed, and I imagine it creates a good bit of sound deadening from the hatch area. I've heard this was an issue with older Model Y's.

New J1772 Wall Connector Installed, may have made the wrong decision

You're better off than you think. Make it a habit to take the adapter with the car. That way if you're out and about and find public charging you can take advantage when needed. I keep mine in the side door pocket although there are many options. When you do that you can hang the J1772 as...

Level 2 Charger to Tesla Y Charging?

Level 2 Charger to Tesla Y Charging?

I can recommend the Emporia Vue as a really good energy monitoring system that isn’t all that expensive relative to what it can do. Would be nice to know where your energy is going and that will help. I can give relative numbers to my house in Ohio after a year’s use of energy monitoring. My...

The 279 mile "Standard Range" AWD Y that has popped up in inventory for a couple of thousand less would still be "in the money" for the credit. Perhaps that's the longer term plan, making that $13k cut more of a $10k or less cut longer term when you can get some traction with lawmakers on...

Is there an over/under on how long the drastic price cuts last to levelize the supply/demand curves? Upset that Tesla screwed customers who took delivery in the last few months

This - exactly this has been my point. Legacy auto dealerships have had similar percentage differences charged to different customers on the same business day. I don't recall timing, but prices dropped 10% or more after I bought my 3 in 2019, but I'll still be going back to the well - maybe...

Production ramping - will Supercharger installations keep up?

We seem to have made it through the holidays in the US without huge queues becoming a problem this year. With the production ramp and price cuts on all Tesla models, what are the chances that once lonely superchargers become quickly overcrowded? Before the end of the year push we already had...

Upset that Tesla screwed customers who took delivery in the last few months

More like socialism where everyone gets the same price on a given day. Ford or Toyota are more capitalist. The second customer for a Camry might pay $5,000 more than the fourth customer, but neither knows for sure what the other one paid. Both customers are pleased with their purchase and...

    50k mile report

Ball joint seizes and it’s thought to be due to moisture intrusion into the boot. Can be alleviated by adding grease, there are YouTube videos about it. Tesla did some pre-emotive sealing of the control arm later to address as well. There is no mistaking the sound when it seizes - car...

Discussion: Model 3 and Y price drop Jan 2023 / April 2023 / Oct 2023 and All other Pricing Speculation going forward

Bigger picture, Tesla just torpedoed the whole new car industry that hasn’t yet fully acknowledged that we’re no longer in an economy for big market adjustments. Tesla the company will continue to be supply limited this quarter now, mainly because they’re nimble enough to respond to external...

    No supercharge in bitter cold

You're fortunate, this is hardly ever an issue for Tesla Superchargers. If you had a DCFC EV, you would be intimately familiar with and frustrated by the lack of reliability of the chargers. Things are better now, but not very long ago you wouldn't have even had bail-out options for a...
