CarPlay solution for Tesla by Michal Gapinski using Raspberry Pi with Android

What are you talking about bloated and losing its way? You want lite, that's exactly what the 2023 builds are working towards. The roadmap has been pretty clear. Hardware acceleration must be debugged and enabled, in order to reduce heat, power consumption, system resources, and overall speed...

CarPlay solution for Tesla by Michal Gapinski using Raspberry Pi with Android

You can already do that via Bluetooth tethering. Just be sure "Internet" is enabled on the Pi's Bluetooth settings. You could just disable auto connect on autokit. Might be a way to use an automated or scripting Android app to disable a USB device. I'm currently using an automation app to...

CarPlay solution for Tesla by Michal Gapinski using Raspberry Pi with Android

Hmm you're right, since upgrading to 2022.44.2 from 2022.44.1 I cannot share internet via Bluetooth. Edit: I resolved this by forgetting the phone on the Pi and forgetting the Pi on the phone. Then when repairing, I kept the Bluetooth screen open on my iPhone, and initiated the pairing from...

Make sure "Internet" is enabled for your paired phone in the Pi's Bluetooth settings. I think a script is needed to automatically enable that toggle.

Tesla Android Project for CarPlay and Android Auto

Until Mike Gapiński adds an update system into his Android distro, the only way to update is to essentially perform a full reinstall. Flashing the SD card with the updated image, then going through the fastboot install process at a terminal/command line. You might be able to just flash the...

Your cable might have a crack in one of the traces, and the way it gets bent when using the tower opens the crack. Have you tried flipping the cable around? Swap the Pi side with the Geekworm side. I actually had display corruption issues last night. Random green lines and sometimes garbled...

CarPlay solution for Tesla by Michal Gapinski using Raspberry Pi with Android

Yes it came with the cooler combo case I linked. The smaller plexi piece came in the box for the cooler. The other plexi pieces came in a standalone box, which can be sold separately as just a case, or in the combo cooler and case I linked. About 6 inches. I ordered the green variant. If your...

CarPlay solution for Tesla by Michal Gapinski using Raspberry Pi with Android

You either broke the flex cable, or it's not properly seated. The clearance between it and the tower cooler is pretty terrible. They are very easy to kink and break the copper in the cable too. Just buy a new flex cable , they're a standard part, if reseating it doesn't work. Your issues with...

CarPlay solution for Tesla by Michal Gapinski using Raspberry Pi with Android

Most problems people encounter here, especially wifi/internet connections are related to thermal throttling, failing to overclock the Pi, and inadequate power. You must use either high quality USB cables, or short USB cables, and a good 12V power adapter that can supply at least 2.5A (ideally...

There's no reason it wouldn't work in the S refresh. Overlap in canbus messages and computer system. Maybe just the harness has a different pinout, which could be adapted.

Tesla Android Project for CarPlay and Android Auto

Finally updated the Linux Pi to 2022.27.1. Holy crap, the stability is so much better. Also finally overclocked the Android Pi, much smoother carplay performance. This project has really come along, and it's completely worth dealing with two Pis. The install process is so much simpler now...

Master Brake Cylinder Brace from Mountain Pass Performance MPP

It honestly looks like tons of other master cylinder braces for other cars. Blue anodized aluminum is pretty common on car parts too. Would it have been in better taste to pick a different color? Yeah definitely. But this isn't a novel idea. The MPP one has more bracing though, so it...

Ingenext Boost 50 / OEM Acceleration Upgrade Comparison Video

No, AWD models, no matter the rear motor can get a boost from Tesla. The AWD official boost doesn't boost power to the same level as the Performance model. It's only the ingenext modules which care about hardware.

Ingenext Boost 50 / OEM Acceleration Upgrade Comparison Video

Wait, you saw the picture of an owner's car, and still conclude its not used? This is a mass produced item, with a documented part number in their database. Of course it was widely used, companies don't just add parts to their databases, qualify them, and ship 1 example to 1 customer. Itt...

Ingenext Boost 50 / OEM Acceleration Upgrade Comparison Video

You've definitely got your motor information wrong in some regards. The 970 definitely existed, and was used in the LR and MR RWD models. It uses IGBTs instead of MOSFETs, and I'm pretty sure it was the first motor used in the Model 3. What I'm not clear on is how frequently it was used. I...

Why didn't Tesla combine the electronic door release button with the mechanical emergency handle?

My 20+ year old BMW with frameless windows has no issue getting the timing right with the handle pull. Every other frameless car ever built seems to have no issue with it. Although they all seem to suffer accelerated wear of the motors and regulators. But I think that question is really not...

Ingenext Boost 50 / OEM Acceleration Upgrade Comparison Video

I'm pretty sure it tricks the car into thinking the rear has performance model power capability, not a RWD LR, since it requires a 980 rear motor in order to work. As far as I'm aware the LR RWD used the 970 motor.

Tesla is an AWFUL software company

I have found in my experience, this only happens when the phone app decides to stop running in the background. Tapping the Tesla app icon on my phone (iOS) to truly open the app, seems to resolve this. Seems to be an issue with background apps in iOS. A lot of apps decide to stop background...

    Alcantara roof and steering wheel

Alcantara or microsued is not designed to be handled by bare skin, such as with a steering wheel. It wears out way too fast and gets gunked up. It's really great for driving gloves, that's why race cars often use it. Leather and gloves doesn't grip as nicely as alcantara and gloves. For a...

Anyone using slip-on spacers with extended shank lug nuts?

Maybe it depends on the wheel? 13mm engagement is just what I measured with my Apex wheels and the stock Uberturbines.

Vendor Official Apex Wheels Thread - Tesla Model 3

3mm didn't clear the front suspension on my Model 3 Performance with 18x9.5" EC-7R wheels. I needed 5mm, otherwise the inner lip of the wheel rubbed on the upper suspension arm.

Xpel tint has wavy texture on windshield

Definitely not normal to have a persistent wavy pattern. I had 90% tint on my front windshield on my SR+. It was a little wavy the first day, but went away as it sat in the sun for 24 hours. Have you tried leaving the car out in the sun (if available)?

Anyone using slip-on spacers with extended shank lug nuts?

3-4mm is really the max you can run without swapping studs. With 5mm, I only had 13mm of thread engagement front and back. I'm going to be swapping in longer studs soon.

Tesla Waze no longer works in browser

The biggest problem with the iOS screen mirroring apps is they cause your phone to overheat, especially if you have your phone sitting in the wireless chargers. That's where most of the performance issues people run into stem from. If you can keep the phone cool, they work pretty seamlessly...

    v11 software update SUCKS

Why would you be skeptical? The S and X had a wiper stalk. It doesn't make sense to delete commands from your system code when similar cars within your fleet have or had those controls. It takes work to pair down feature sets, and there's no benefit to doing so. Plus how do you think the...

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

There are two things I like about the new UI, the fact that messages can now be opened with one button press, and I like the full screen trip section (but hate that the trip card is gone). That's it, everything else is a major regression. Things are far harder to see at a glance now, fonts are...

    v11 software update SUCKS

S3XY buttons use CAN bus commands as far as I'm aware. It's not proprietary, it's a standard protocol and they cannot encrypt it on existing cars. If they encrypted it, every single button in the car would cease to function.

    tesla charging extension cord

People frown on extension cords because they either don't have a real understanding of electricity, or they are frowning on low quality, undersized conductor extension cords. Temporary Touch Up Paint

Aerosol is going to require masking of that entire side of the car to avoid over-spray. You're going to have to feather in the paint too, and sand to blend it, or paint the entire panel, or deal with a hard masking line. It's going to look pretty bad, and you risk getting over-spray on parts...
