Free Standard Connectivity for new cars limited to 8 years

I'm sure there was a post that non-tesla chargers were going into the in-car maps?

    Ponsonby NZ service closing

That there was maybe going to be one? Sure. That it's actually coming anytime soon? ... Well with tesla you never quite know do you.

    Ponsonby NZ service closing

If so, they really should have said so when they announced the closure of K road! But I suppose we should all be used to tesla's comms by now.

    Ponsonby NZ service closing

Just opposite Costco and north of Costco Fuel on Maki drive. I wonder how far along it is?

    Ponsonby NZ service closing

In the Herald today: "Whilst Tesla’s number of active stores from four down to three (it also has sites in Wellington and Christchurch), the number will soon become four again with the planned opening of a new store still under construction in Westgate." Hope they're right -- west would be a...

    Ponsonby NZ service closing

I assume the chargers are staying. For something easy like WoF + alignment, having to drive all the way out to Mangere (from the shore) is really annoying. I might go this year but after that I imagine I'll find somewhere local. I realise the Ponsonby location probably wasn't forever (too...

    Ponsonby NZ service closing

Email today from Tesla: "Please note that Tesla Ponsonby is closing on 13 May 2024.". South only for Aucklanders from here on out? Ugh.

    Cybertruck RHD(Japan) confirmed

Does seem unlikely, doesn't it? *If* they do RHD CT, surely Aus and UK are first. (I was surprised to the extent rural England has got into utes recently).

Cybertruck testing near Wanaka - light at end of tunnel (CT waiting list)

Call the payload for the NZ spec 1004 kg? I don't expect to see a RHD any time soon though.

    Model 3 Tow bar install

I think the answer is that you just have to mute the sensors.
  11. khayyam

    Model 3 Tow bar install

I'm increasingly tempted now that the car is 4+ years old and a lot of the warranty is gone anyhow. I agree that the software is the main problem. There's a fairly useful facebook group specifically for non-official model 3 towbar fitting.

How many Tesla's in New Zealand

I make it about 4.0l/100km, based on $3/l and 150 wH/km. RUC is $76/1000 km (not 100) but you must have got that right.

    Quality Issues WOF

Eeek. Having had suspension work at the first WoF (3 year) the 4 year WoF was a nervous time, but all was ok. (I went slightly early to make sure it was still under warranty!). That said I'm sure I'll be a bit nervous again next year. The parts themselves have, iirc, a 12 month warranty. So I...

    Model 3 AWD Tyre Life

Admirable of Michelin, esp. given their commercial interests. But there's also plenty to the contrary, e.g. Braking distances and tread depths https://www.rospa.com/rospaweb/docs/advice-services/road-safety/vehicles/tyre-tread-depth.pdf I'm not trying to convince anyone otherwise, knock...

    Model 3 AWD Tyre Life

Are we talking about wearing them down below 1.5mm tread until they fail WoF? In my opinion that's too low and they should be replaced before then, the wet stopping distance in particular starts to suffer well before the legal threshold. If you're willing to run them right down obviously you can...

    Tesla Westgate

A new service centre? Seems like it from the size but doesn't seem to say.

How many Tesla's in New Zealand

I wonder if the S/X will ever return.

Second failed WOF in 2 years (2019 Tesla Model 3)

Yeah pass no issues. Hopefully that's the story from here on out!
  19. khayyam

Second failed WOF in 2 years (2019 Tesla Model 3)

Mine's in now. Honestly I can't decide if I'm hoping for a clean bill of health, or a set of new suspension components under warranty!
  20. khayyam

Second failed WOF in 2 years (2019 Tesla Model 3)

Definitely some suspension part weaknesses in 2019 and 2020 original parts it seems. Open question is if the replacements are improved!
  21. khayyam

Roadster booking for NZ is on

I reckon the chances of RHD roasters (eventually at least) is pretty decent. Better than the CT maybe. It's a big deposit though to maybe sit for years before just getting refunded.
  22. khayyam

Second failed WOF in 2 years (2019 Tesla Model 3)

12 months/ 20k km on most things, I think: https://www.tesla.com/en_nz/support/vehicle-warranty (scroll down to Parts). But yes potentially useful to those who have work at this stage just before the Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty expires.

    Supercharger - Glenfield

My policy is to avoid the glenfield mall like the plague. But good to have more superchargers!
  24. khayyam

    Auckland service centers

I'd say the chances of needing more warranty suspension work are 50/50. So WoF at Tesla is the way to go. Plus another little issue for them to sort at the same time.
  25. khayyam

    Auckland service centers

Booking well ahead is easier said than done! At the moment they aren't opening any slots at K rd more than about a week and a half ahead, and once they open new slots they seem to go pretty fast. Plenty of slots at the south location though, if I were feeling cynical I'd say they're trying to...

Second failed WOF in 2 years (2019 Tesla Model 3)

Yes. But I doubt it would be easy going!
  27. khayyam

    Auckland service centers

    I assume so as well.
  28. khayyam

    Auckland service centers

I'm glad they opened a new location as they desperately needed the capacity. Can't help but think though that South Auckland wasn't the best choice. Maybe they also have plans for one on the north shore because there are absurd numbers of teslas around us these days.
  29. khayyam

Second failed WOF in 2 years (2019 Tesla Model 3)

:( Did they have the parts this time? You must have done it early? We're due in a few weeks.

    Auto profile selection chooses incorrectly

So, I think maybe they've fixed this somewhere along the line. I don't know exactly when, but it seems to have stopped happening?
  31. khayyam

    Tesla Insurance

Good to know that AA is competitive again. We'd had them for years but had to change when their quotes for a new tesla were insane. I'd go back if their premiums are reasonable now.
  32. khayyam

    Auckland service centers

I imagine so. I can't say for sure though, I got a "free" alignment last year because of suspension work under warranty (only cost me a month off the road waiting for parts...)

Cybertruck testing near Wanaka - light at end of tunnel (CT waiting list)

Aus+NZ ute market would be lucky to be 10% of north america, and probably less. Even SA and continental europe must be much bigger, despite limitations with each of those markets. Even though we buy a lot of utes per capita there's only 30m people in the antipodes, which is small beer globally.
  34. khayyam

    Auckland service centers

Yeah first batch. 4 year warranty is up something like Aug 26. I want to book for earlier that week at K road, whenever it will let me (not yet).
  35. khayyam

Cybertruck testing near Wanaka - light at end of tunnel (CT waiting list)

When I was in the UK recently I was surprised to see that the english are taking to utes more than ever before. If so, that might make the rhd market big enough for CT. Certainly the Japanese don't buy many, and aus+nz is just too small.
  36. khayyam

Cybertruck testing near Wanaka - light at end of tunnel (CT waiting list)

It's just winter testing out of season for them. I don't think it really means anything about a commitment to rhd, sadly.
  37. khayyam

    Auckland service centers

Ah yes there's one slot at K road this morning. At least it's a simple answer then.
  38. khayyam

    Auckland service centers

So I went to try to schedule a service appointment today and the K road location isn't listed at all, only appointments at the new south SC. Obviously Auckland needed more service capacity so I'm glad to see the new location, but it's miles from us. Anyone know, is the K road location just...

    Supercharger - Auckland North Shore

I tend to agree. But there must be more people who use SCs near home (i.e. no L2 charger at home) than I realise...

    SR+ tyre replacement

We'll need new tread before winter I reckon. Ps5 I imagine but hopefully the prices don't keep going up!
  41. khayyam

    Price update 6th Jan 2023

Does appear to be $300 on the base Y. Still better than nothing I guess.
  42. khayyam

New BP gas station chargers are coming

We definitely need more chargers, full stop, so this is a win. A proliferation of different (and bad) apps is less good but that's just software and can be sorted later.
  43. khayyam

    WoF?

Sure. If it was just you thought they would probably be able to provide a loaner and give you updates!
  44. khayyam

    WoF?

Good luck. Sorry to hear that this is still going on, I got the impression that they were getting on top of it.
  45. khayyam

    WoF?

Opinions differ. Some claim that insurers wouldn't care unless the fault contributed to the incident, others that the insurers would look for an out regardless. Tesla also seem inclined to give the impression that you're free to drive during the 28 days. I can only assume they are doing this to...
  46. khayyam

    WoF?

Yeah they also seem inclined to take an, uh, "loose" approach. Perhaps unsurprising under the circumstances, but I wish they wouldn't...
  47. khayyam

    WoF?

Not sure that's technically correct, although certainly a lot of people are taking fairly liberal interpretations of the WoF rules.
  48. khayyam

    WoF?

Have they got you going again yet?

Key Fob - not available in NZ

My android phone sometimes doesn't work without fiddling. (open app, enable / disable Bluetooth etc). I think often the problem is that the app needs to be updated, somehow it doesn't automatically update in the same way as all the other apps and needs manual updating. I have considered the fob...
