Does the brake pedal activate regenerative braking before the brake pads apply friction?

I'm not a fan of one-pedal driving, but I'm a fan of regenerative braking for longer range. So, I would hope that it's possible to set the car to coast in a manner similar to gas-powered car, but also that when the brake pedal is depressed, it uses regen braking before the brake pads. Friction...

Kicked out of the FSD Beta! (Long Post)

Hold up... You lost plain old AP?? That comes with any Tesla! That's NOT beta, and it's something you paid for as part of the car!

Model 3 as a Student Driver car

This may be a bit off-topic, but I will never again have someone other than myself install passenger-side pedals in ANY car. Without experience doing what we do, the results have always been disappointing. Every time, and I mean every time, (about 12 times for me) I've had to at least tell...

Model 3 as a Student Driver car

Probably so. We get 6 hours with our students unless they choose to pay for more lessons, which isn't common. Supposedly they're getting 20-30 hours of practice with parents between each of our 2-hour lessons, but parents often sign to attest "under penalty of perjury" that the practice...

True story. This morning due to an errant mouse click while I was adjusting my chair, I bought more. (My platform is for day traders and it doesn't ask for confirmation.) At the time it was the HOTD, which isn't something I ever do. Apparently it was a limit order with a limit higher than...

Model 3 as a Student Driver car

"Hmm", that sounds a bit sarcastic. If you own and drive a Model 3, you already know it has substantial blind spots. If I could have made the car work, I would have. The side cameras don't see the blind spots at all... What they see is pretty much the same as the wing mirrors see, which by...

Model 3 as a Student Driver car

It's been a while since I posted. Here's the conclusion: Yes, I got it working, but after teaching 3 lessons, I decided to sell the car. The Model 3 doesn't allow an instructor to adequately maintain safety, even with an "advanced student". (That is, someone who is ready to get their...

FSD on a trial basis? Or as a monthly leased service?

I know this: They got no money from me for FSD, but if there was a monthly or annual option, they'd have gotten something. Since the development costs are spent anyway, it would be almost 100% spendable gravy. Would it cannibalize the $8,000 purchase? Maybe, but only if it's not worth having...

FSD on a trial basis? Or as a monthly leased service?

The fact is we're guessing, but there's logic to it. 1) If we treat Tesla's price of $8,000 as its "value" as a permanent feature, and if we assume that a car lasts a typical 8 years that's $1,000 per year, or per $83.33 month. But if that was the monthly price, a person would be foolish to...

FSD on a trial basis? Or as a monthly leased service?

Right now it works well enough to be cool and add some convenience. So that has value. When it does more, it will have more value.
  16. AquaMan

FSD on a trial basis? Or as a monthly leased service?

It might sell at that price, but I probably wouldn't be a buyer after the first month. Since it has nearly zero cost (after huge development overhead of course) I think my prices would result in greater sales dollars overall. I still feel I need to closely supervise regular Autopilot on a...

FSD on a trial basis? Or as a monthly leased service?

Great! In case they're listening (they're not) I'd go as much as $350US on a monthly basis (and I'd probably only do a one month trial at that price), or I would commit to a year at around ~$175 per month, as long as if I sell the car the remainder of the time would transfer with the car. It...

FSD on a trial basis? Or as a monthly leased service?

As a Model 3 owner who's happy with Autopilot and unwilling to pay the big price for FSD, I would certainly pay perhaps $350 to try it for a month, and if I fall in love I might even pay the bigger amount to keep it, or even "lease" it as a service for $350 per month. Granted, if I own the car...

Although this probably isn't the right thread for this topic, this is where you brought it up. I believe the solution isn't complete until fusion replaces fossil fuels. Electricity is only as clean as its source. Solar and wind are nice, but both have certain inherent impracticalities...

Got screwed by Tesla's terrible customer service again

For any business to provide great service, many things are required. Well trained people, money, a well-developed infrastructure... ...and one very important thing. The most important: The decision and commitment by management to actually DO IT.

Will model Y mirrors work on a Model 3?

Me: "Model Y mirrors exist right?" Tesla: "Yes." Me: "Can I order them?" Tesla: "No." Me: "Can I order Full Self Driving?" Tesla: "Of course!" Me: "Hmmph!"
  22. AquaMan

Will model Y mirrors work on a Model 3?

Oh I totally I expected that. In fact I expected exactly what I found. But if this wasn't Tesla, I could at least put the part on backorder, and it wouldn't matter whether I own the vehicle.
  23. AquaMan

Will model Y mirrors work on a Model 3?

Apparently they can't answer the phone, and the online chat says they have "no answers" about whether I can order the parts. (Let alone whether it would fit.) It seems even if I owned a Model Y, I would have a lot of trouble getting the parts.
  24. AquaMan

Will model Y mirrors work on a Model 3?

The model Y side mirrors are bigger than the model 3 side mirrors. I would love to have them on my model 3. Will they fit? And if so, how can I acquire them?

Offroad performance similar to a Humvee?

I have not driven one. Have they committed to air suspension, or could it be hydraulic... and would that solve the problem? Tesla 3 Surges Backwards while Parallel Parking

I'm also a former software developer. Often, even if the "Problem Exists Between Wheel And Seat" (PEBWAS)... Poor design greatly contributes to the likelihood that the user (driver) will not behave as the designers intended. In this case, Tesla should require creep mode for reverse. This...

Tesla 3 Surges Backwards while Parallel Parking

I firmly believe that "creep mode" should be the default while in reverse. I like one-pedal driving, but I absolutely hate using the accelerator pedal to back up. It shouldn't even be an option to use regenerative braking in reverse. Personal question for the OP: Are you by chance, short in...

Right Pillar Camera Blocked or Blinded

My opinion, as a complete idiot, on the recent action: First of all, I believe TSLA is going to $2,000 and beyond. I'm apprehensive about the reality of FSD, but Tesla doesn't need every Model 3 to be a potential robotaxi to be wildly successful. What happened yesterday was total BS, but...
