Oh right... I wish I was at leisure to pop em in the post. Need the car daily. I'll get it in for a service. It's due one anyway.

    Italy Trip

did that in our M3 in May 2023 (and back). DM me if you want any details. Driving to south of France this December for a couple of weeks near Nice. Will be taking the train across the Channel as ferries can be a bit iffy that time of year.

    Intelligent Octopus charger failures

Thanks Buddha, but those of us who haven't achieved perfection still get stressed waking up to zero charge when we're off to work, a hospital appointment, the airport, etc ...

    Intelligent Octopus charger failures

welcome to the 'intelligent' club. Exactly the same problem for us on a regular basis for about 2 years. About 6 months ago, they recommended that we unpair the car from the PW and then re-pair it. I unpaired it and never bothered re-pairing. Just been doing a scheduled charge ever since. I...

    Where's solar charging gone?

ah right ... we've currently got FiT with Octopus which is where I was confused. That only gives us between 5-7p per kW so I need to look at switching that. Cheers for the prod... So, any downsides for surrendering FiT for SEG?

    Where's solar charging gone?

When I go to sign out of app, it tells me I'll lose all settings and stored data. That sounds scary. Can you confirm they'll be restored when i log back in? What tariff pays 15p export? I thought IO was somewhere around 5p.
  13. kuruma

    Where's solar charging gone?

What rates are you getting for export with octopus? I'm on IO and it's pretty minimal.

    Thinking of selling

Well I and the wife retired from full time work at 49 and 48 respectively ostensibly to become respite foster carers. The first two kids through the door were meant to be here for a weekend in 2021. They're still here. We adopted them last year when they were both under the age of 7. Being...

How to calculate 2nd PW value?

interesting... we're in a conservation area so possible that council don't allow panels on the front roof. We don't work much and if we do it's mostly from home anyway. I'll look into that.
  16. kuruma

How to calculate 2nd PW value?

Thanks for the detailed description. That's really helpful. We've maxed out our PV roof area and unless they introduce vertical panels and our conservation area allows them to be installed, I think we're set with all the solar we can generate for the next 10 years. All south facing so we get...

A good consideration, but the car will be at home all day most days.

How to calculate 2nd PW value?

Thanks @Dilly I can see why you like the advantages it brings and giving me a couple of use-case scenarios makes me realise that there aren't any we encounter on a regular basis. We aren't in an area where power outages are an issue either @KennethS so not a necessity from that POV either.
  20. kuruma

How to calculate 2nd PW value?

ah right. OK. well we pretty much never have enough surplus to make much of that arrangement when we're on time based as the PW generally does a very good job of assessing what our load is going to be over the next peak period. And if my terrible maths is right, at £1.75/kWh it would take over...

How to calculate 2nd PW value?

Sorry if I appear a bit thick here but I'm not sure what that means, poss because I don't understand how saving sessions work. Basically, every evening, we're using the PW to run the house. Are you saying that they can take whatever we're not using from the PW to the grid?
  22. kuruma

How to calculate 2nd PW value?

thanks for those insights. Exactly what I was looking for. I have no idea what our grid setup is. It's a house connected to the mains  The house consumption figures are now muddied by the fact that from 2024, the app now splits off power going to the vehicle whereas before that...

How to calculate 2nd PW value?

I'm not great at maths and wondered if the hive mind could help us calculate whether it's worth our while installing a second PW. Here's some info: We have had PW2 since December 2019. In that time, we've generated 18.8MWh of solar energy from our 5.2kW array. 30% of that has gone into the PW...

hmm... so same app version yet different functionality. Interesting. Our PW is on 24.4.0 though. I've no idea if that makes a difference either!

    Where's solar charging gone?

Ah right so it seems I'm not the only one to notice it's vanished. Strange that... it was really useful because it meant I didn't have to remember not to forget that if it suddenly clouds over, I have to reduce or stop charging the car so it doesn't drain the PW

Model 3 poll - have you changed battery

Update: The SC would allow me to buy a battery off the shelf for about £75 which is a good deal. It's an hour each way for me to drive so I went back to Euro Car Parts and exchanged the Bosch I'd bought for a Varta which is about £110. No warnings so far. If the Varta doesn't work out, I'll have...

    Where's solar charging gone?

A few weeks ago, I had an option to charge the car off solar when there was surplus solar coming in and the powerwall didn't need it. Three little dots appeared next to charge info on the app. Tapping that enabled me to toggle solar charging on or off. If that wasn't there, I could nip into...

Model 3 poll - have you changed battery

Well, they did switch the service app to a mobile one but it was going to potentially cost me £212. Model 3 poll - have you changed battery

Initially, my service request was met with an invite to book a service at the SS an hour away which would include a new battery to replace my new battery. I responded suggesting there had been a misunderstanding and that all I wanted was for my new, standard issue (so surely M3-compatible)...

    Unreliable charging using Intelligent Octopus

I just set scheduled charge to start at 1130pm. It always charges fully well before 530am as we're standard range. I'm still on intelligent as far as i know. I've just never bothered adding the car as a device again. Now that we're coming into living solely on solar and powerwall I'm unlikely...

    Unreliable charging using Intelligent Octopus

Been working on troubleshooting this issue with octopus for maybe two years now. It's got so bad I've now removed the car from being a smart device (following their suggestion) and just use the hours that IO provide to charge the car using scheduled charging. That's so reliable, we can't see the...

Model 3 poll - have you changed battery

Battery tested ok at 12.55V. I followed the method @GlynG outlined and the warning has gone away. There was an initial worry when the screen stayed black for a minute or two after reconnecting the battery but it did eventually show the Tesla logo and come back.

so, I got that BOSCH battery. Followed a guide on YouTube to install it. All was good. For a week. Today, we've got notifications to change our 12V battery. What?! Mobile service will charge us £108 to come and have a look. Car tells me it won't sleep while idle. Reboot doesn't make any...
