    2020 Model S Alignment Issues

Just an update on this thread. Tesla service did another alignment and charged me for it, but the car still pulled right. So they took it back, gave me a loaner, replaced some bushings and control arms, did another alignment, and marked it completed. Picked it up... car still pulled right...

    2020 Model S Alignment Issues

Thanks. Yes they're the proper rating, although I don't love them which is why I'm not terribly heartbroken about needing to buy new tires- they're the Goodyear Eagle Touring T1 tires. But I'm super hesitant to drop $1400 on a set of MXM4s before this alignment issue is solved. Good thought on...

    2020 Model S Alignment Issues

I picked up a new-to-me 2020 Model S Long Range Plus in Sept/Oct last year. The alignment was always a little wonky- car wouldn't track straight. The front tires were also almost bald when the car arrived, even though the rears looked brand new. So I picked up 2 new tires and had an alignment...

Daily Laugh- Service Center Says "Headlight Condensation is Because EVs run hotter than ICE"

Fresh off another extremely frustrating experience at the White Plains NY service center. Took the car in for 2 things- wheel alignment and one headlight with condensation. When I picked up the car today, the alignment was actually worse than when I had dropped it off (car was pulling to the...

Why a Strikeout Isn't the End of the World

We're going to have to agree to disagree. One of my strikes was with my hands on the wheel. About 15-20 seconds after placing my hand on the wheel, it gave me the red screen and disabled autopilot for the rest of the ride. I'm certain that my hand being on the wheel is what caused it...

Why a Strikeout Isn't the End of the World

You appear to have missed aset's post above- he gets them with hands on at all times. Also, are we just ignoring that they did away with the gentle white reminders of the old days when it asked you to put your hand back on the wheel? It's strange to go straight from nothing to strike. Even...

For sale Model S - 19" Gray Slipstream Wheels with Tires, TPMS, more

I recently bought a 2020 Model S and it came with these gray slipstreams; I'm partial to silver so I bought a replacement set of silver wheels and now selling these gray ones. They come with tires, TPMS sensors, lugnuts + caps, and a bottle of touchup paint. The tires are balanced and ready to...

Why a Strikeout Isn't the End of the World

Exact same thing happened to me. Grabbed the wheel (because I didn't like the truck next to me, not because the system told me to), got an immediate strike and it disabled. Something's off with their "telemetry data". It's realistically a software bug because I got zero warnings beforehand, and...

Why a Strikeout Isn't the End of the World

My car kept giving me strikes and "defeat device detected" whenever it was driving in FSD next to a semi on the highway. 3 strikes, all 3 times next to a semi and nothing else eventful happening. No warnings, no gentle white reminder- just straight from "everything ok" to "autopilot disabled"...

It's a little tricky- there is a page on the IRS website that directs you to fueleconomy.gov, which maintains a list that does include Teslas. Used Clean Vehicle Credit | Internal Revenue Service I agree though- they have another tab on the same page that has a smaller list than the...

2015 Model S with a 2019 facelift (Tsportline bumper plus 2019 OEM wheels). This is eligible for the federal tax credit, assuming you make under the income threshold- we just need to process the sale through keysavvy which is something I'd probably want to do anyway. Tan interior...

This is a great price. I just put a deposit on nearly the same car but without FSD for $53k on Tesla's website (I'm not local to Colorado otherwise I would have jumped on this one). GLWS.

Cheapest way to get updated Fascia for older Model S?

Oh interesting- maybe I should just pick up a different pair of fog lights instead of trying to make it work with mine. It's encouraging that yours went in without any issues.

Cheapest way to get updated Fascia for older Model S?

Looks great! I've had my Tsportline bumper for about 18 months and it's great. A couple little annoyances but none that make me regret my purchase at all. The one strange one is that, when I installed it, there was something off in the geometry in the way the fog lights mount to the bumper- I...

    AP1 ONLY Please -- life after 2018.50.6

Thanks. Tried it and didn't like it as I don't like having to go into the car to get the key to unlock doors while the car is in the garage and I need to get something. I'll just keep buying new door handles when they wear out and hoping one day they offer a "present when touched" option :)
  24. riles246

    AP1 ONLY Please -- life after 2018.50.6

Wow that's great. My mental disconnect is that I was conflating presenting with unlocking. When I saw "driver door unlock" it didn't process in my mind that this would prevent the other three from presenting. I presume this means the other three doors will be locked most of the time. What...

    AP1 ONLY Please -- life after 2018.50.6

For my car, that only determines whether they "auto present", meaning whether they present when I walk near the car. But when I unlock the car, whether from the key or by touching a handle, all four present. Even though 95%+ of the time, I'm driving by myself and don't need the other three to...

Charge rate automatically changes and trips the breaker.

My interpretation is that OP was using a mobile connector and they gave OP another mobile connector. So maybe OP's mobile connector was faulty.

    AP1 ONLY Please -- life after 2018.50.6

I wish they would have an option to totally disable presenting of handles, even on lock/unlock. I want an option for drivers-only, or only when pressed. It's dumb to present all four handles multiple times per day when in reality, the three non-driver handles would probably only need to...

    2015 Model S 70D w/ Facelift & Warranty, 69k Miles - Westchester NY

Well, looks like I missed the bubble. Have been getting offers of $25k, which are probably about the best I'll do. Have an offer from CarGurus for just under $21k. At this price, I'll likely just keep it. Might consider trading for a Model Y (I'll add).

Just come across the phantom braking issue, considering canceling my order

Same story- every other car in my family that has ACC and lane keep assist has never had phantom braking. The thing that just busts my doilies is that my AP1 car has never ever had a single instance of PB, and I can go hours on the freeway without touching the steering wheel thanks to a wheel...

    Brake job miles?

Mine were similar to Beatle's post- powerstop coated rotors and full ceramic pads. Why go OEM for brakes? There are so many great brake component manufacturers, don't need to pay the extra cost for stamping "Tesla" on them.
  34. riles246

    Brake job miles?

I recently did my front brakes at about 60k miles due to pulsing in the rotors. The pads had plenty of life left but pads are so cheap I changed them too while getting the rotors done. Tesla wanted nearly $2000, I had a local shop do it for $600 all-in including labor. The parts were about...

Just come across the phantom braking issue, considering canceling my order

I've owned my 2015 Model S (AP1) for over 3 years and never had one instance of phantom braking. I drove in my dad's 2022 Model Y and it was a terrifying experience, at least 10 phantom braking events in under an hour. Had to completely disable cruise control just to make it to my destination...

    Used Model S Value

I'm going to respectfully disagree. Pack replacements are the exception, not the norm. I certainly wouldn't expect to need a new pack in the next "3-5 years". I currently drive a 2015 with an original pack and have lost about 12 miles range compared to where it was when new. Unless you...

FREE: Model S Tempest Aero Covers from a 2020 (Lighter colored)

I had another thread where I tried to sell these but it's time for me to give up and give them away. I bought these to try to fit them on a different wheel but it was a failed experiment- they don't fit on the older Model S wheels (5 spoke or slipstream, both don't work). These are the Tempest...

    Positive EVGo experience

I tried this yesterday and it was not successful. Maybe because I'm in an older car, but when I selected the 2 lightning bolts, it showed me very, very slow L2 chargers and didn't even have this 50kw EVGo. The two that popped up under the 2 bolts were the one near my train station and the one...

    Positive EVGo experience

Interesting- I couldn't find this one in the Tesla map but it could be that I only had three bolts selected (thinking 2 bolts meant L2/240v, clearly I was wrong). I'll give it a try next time I'm in the car, that would be a really helpful feature!
  40. riles246

    Positive EVGo experience

I was out and about the other day and knew I needed to charge. I could make it home without charging, would probably be around 10%, but I wouldn't have time to get meaningful charge before heading back out to take kids to stuff which would make it pretty tight. The nearest supercharger would...

Can the Electric grid handle EV adoption

I get so tired of seeing these pop up on Twitter, FB, etc. People act as though someone will sneeze and then we'll be at 100% EV adoption overnight. The other thing they ignore is the hundreds of billions of dollars that Americans spend on gas every year, which will be spent on KwH. The power...

Talk me out of buying a 2016 70D - range

I have a 70D and occasionally take it to a ski resort that is 140 miles away. I can make it there in the dead of winter with about 10% battery, but since the public chargers at the resort are not reliable I need to make it with 20% so that I have enough juice to get to the nearest supercharger...

Cheapest way to get updated Fascia for older Model S?

As someone who has personally installed the Tsportline bumped on my own car, I didn't experience the bulging sensor issue at all. I do have a bit of an overbite when viewed at a very specific angle but only the trained eye would notice. I had no fitment issues at all; the only major issue I had...

MODS: Could you please make a sub-forum for 'reservation sales'???

I'm very grateful for all the work the mods do as well as the site owner for setting this up and keeping it running. Don't want to sound ungrateful as I really am not. But I agree- would be really nice to have a new vs used section, or even a model-specific section (as most looking for an X...

To 19" or 21", that is the question

What does the quoted text mean? Trying to decipher TWRAPS and MSM. Apparently whatever an MSM is, it's something you could have also had twice before. But somehow it's something you reserve? Is it stickers on the calipers or on the covers?
  47. riles246

To 19" or 21", that is the question

Personal preference but I can't stand 21" wheels. Too harsh, too much road noise. I would use 17's if they would fit (the don't). The extra inches of rubber between the road and the wheel really make a difference for comfort.
  48. riles246

Aero wheel covers on Model S 2017??

Agreed! My car is a bit old so the range isn't terribly high compared to the new cars but anything I could do increase range would have a nice ROI compared to buying a new car. I've been toying with adding a diesel heater for the winter drives as my range is about 130 miles in deep winter...
