    BMW I4 prices and specs

Interesting to read people’s views on the new BMW i4. I must admit when I first seen it a few months back I wasn’t impressed at all, the grill doesn’t bother me but the blue accents really grated on my nerves! Prior to getting my M3 performance almost two years ago I used to drive a BMW 435 X...

    Octopus Compare

Yes agreed, it would be a lot more of a realistic comparison if it compared the usage from the cheapest 4 hours from GO with the cheapest 4 hours from Agile rather than simply basing it on a direct time comparison.

    Octopus Go versus Agile

Also made the move from Agile to Go yesterday, the Agile prices over the last month or more have just been far too high for my liking. I charge my Powerwall at the cheapest rate which gets me through to the next day and the car now and again so offsetting the 4pm - 7pm slot was not a deciding...

Wiki [UK] Holiday update - 2020.48.26/.30/.35.x

Another one who doesn’t mind the new UI layout, took it for a brief drive this morning on a route where whenever I used to engage autopilot it would get far to close to the kerb causing me to constantly disengage. This time it was much better leaving a comfortable gap and seemed more centred in...

    Charge to 100%

A touch over the top reaction here! I can charge my car however I like..no idea what that’s got to do with the planet. There really is no measurable facts proving charging to 100 percent now and again is any worse than for example using super charging. For what it’s worth in the summer it’s...

    Charge to 100%

I keep mine at around 80% except for when octopus agile pricing is 0 or less when I charge to 100%. Personally I only have the car for 2-3 years so don’t care about the effect on overall battery life.

    Powerwall Advance Settings

It varies quite a lot some days, for example 00:30 - 0100 may be 2 p/kWh then 01:00 - 01:30 up to 3.5 p/kWh then 01:30 - 02:00 back to 1.8 p/kWh etc etc. There really is no fixed pattern, last night for example it was mostly around 7:5 p/kWh so would have been cheaper on the go tariff. I’m...

    Powerwall Advance Settings

It’s quite a complicated matter especially when Agile is thrown into the mix, I used to be on Go and that was a simple matter of saying offpeak between 12 and 4am. With Agile the best times are all over the place and I found myself going nuts changing the offpeak slots to try and get the best...

New Tesla service centre coming Newcastle, UK - Silverlink

Can confirm it is still free and only the 50kW chargers are working. Spent a nice hour there and topped up my charge from 13% to over 80% so very happy with that. Would really like to give the 175kW chargers a shot one day.

Just to confirm when you say free vend, I can drive there and use them for free without the need to register etc? Thinking of giving them a shot tomorrow.

    Green number plates

Green number plates get the green light for a zero-emission future Slightly annoying as I have only had my private plates on for just over 6 months! I’m guessing there will be aftermarket sticker solutions for all the current EV owners.

    Solar installation feasible?

Yeah makes sense, not something to get into if your goal is payback. Personally as a software developer I just had to have the powerwall/solar once I’d seen the app...and as anyone who has it will confirm..the tech is awesome!
  16. I

    Solar installation feasible?

Without wanting to go into mega fine detail as others have already covered, my system is a 7.8kW split across east, south and west facing. From what I can tell this split gives the most “pull” time from the sun that is possible. The east facing gets the early mor ing sun, south the majority and...

Octopus are paying you to use electricity 5th April

What I have been doing the last few weekends when the prices are in the negative is to try and consume as much power as possible...now this is not as easy as it seems when a powerwall is involved in the process! My current methodology is to set the powerwall to backup energy only..though by...

Anybody collected a car from Leeds recently

Quite some time since this thread has been updated, but I collected mine from Leeds (live in Newcastle) end of October last year. I turned up about 5 mins late! When I was there it was pretty much dead, within 10 mins I was sitting in my new car ready to leave...they didn't even ask to see my...

    Considering getting a Powerwall

Just to be clear here as far as I understand the powerwall does not use weather forecast info (apart from storm watch) to predict how much solar it thinks will be generated on a particular day. Instead it keeps track of historical data and looks back on that when deciding what to do. For example...

Octopus Agile tariff and keeping car awake

Tomorrow between 2am and 6am the rates are in the negative..meaning we get paid for using electricity. We can thank Storm Dennis for that! Got the car set to charge to 100 percent, water heater timer on too along with the powerwall..here’s hoping I can consume a large amount of power in those 4...

New Octopus Go tariff and off peak options?

Having been a Octopus Go member and now Octopus Agile I think it pretty much can be summed up as "If you own a PoweWall/Battery storage that allows you to avoid pulling in electricity between 16:00 and 19:00 then savings can be made." The savings really can be quite substantial especially if...

Octopus Agile tariff and keeping car awake

Hopefully Tesla issue this fix in time for the summer as it also effects using the Zappi charger for pumping solar into it (the car not waking up from being asleep when the charge starts). I have only been on Agile a couple of days so it’s hard to judge but from what I’ve seen so far the rate...

How reliable is the 3 key app?

Another who doesn’t bother to carry the keycard and have never had any problems. As a backup I have the Tesla Remote app on my Apple Watch that can unlock and start the car. I think very worst case scenario you can ring Tesla roadside assistance and they can remotely do it too. If I used a...

New Octopus Go tariff and off peak options?

Thanks for the ideas for the Agile Tariff, I think for me having moved from Octopus Go I know I only really need about three hours of charging per night of the car (powerwall seems to be charging for less these days too due to it knowing there is solar being produced). The aim is of course to...

This is almost the perfect solution...however after trying it out I realised that some Automations cannot be run without user input: Enable or disable a personal automation Time of Day being one of them...which is the one I would use. Shame as it's so close to being perfect. If there is a...

PowerWall - Power Cut ... Grid Restored ... still running on battery

    Considering getting a Powerwall

Yes you can use the powerwall without having solar panels and do exactly as you described but it’s main benefit really is consuming excess solar that would otherwise go to the grid so that it can be used later. I had my powerwall and solar installed last November and to be honest there was...

Thanks for the detailed reply, I will be tracking things in more detail via their API and looking to maybe automate timed charging based on that in the future. Considering getting a Powerwall

You pretty much have the same setup as I do and we are both in the north east where solar generation is beginning to kick in. I have just moved from the Octopus Go tariff to their Agile one as I think it’s going to be cheaper especially given that the powerwall will cover the most expensive time...

New Octopus Go tariff and off peak options?

For those on the Agile tariff (just switched from GO today) who have a Powerwall what settimgs do you use as the “off peak” on the powerwall. With Go it was simply between 00:30 and 04:30 but looking at yesterday’s data for example with Agile the best slot would be 03:30 to 06:30 where the price...

    FSD worth it now?

I cannot comment on the FSD package as I did not get it with my car, but I also went for a two year Lease and my personal opinion is adding approx £5000 onto the price for something that adds minimal benefit at the moment (auto parking, navigate on autopilot - both nice to haves rather than...

    A little reassurance required

I think we can all agree when things are working as they should we love driving our Tesla Model 3. Not everyone here has had to experience needing to return the car to the SC for a fault that needs to be rectified. That is when you know that the current Tesla model is just not working. To be...

    Model S Loner

The amount of complete breakdowns the Model 3 is having is worrying to say the least, I wonder out of interest if brand new cars from the big boys have a similar amount of breakdowns in the first 6 months. Cannot charge the car - Tesla Model 3

A quick update, got the car back today. They said "It was a connection issue for the soft set connector to the accelerator pedal" Took over a week to get the car back, fingers crossed this problem does not re-appear but reading the other thread: Model S Loner it has had the exact same issue...

    Considering getting a Powerwall

Yes agreed, the switchover for me is seamless with no downtime at all. Not sure what was up with Fully Charged’s installation. When I got my PW2 I really didn’t anticipate needing to use the backup feature but as explained in my post above it’s nice knowing it’s there. The only dilemma I have is...

    Considering getting a Powerwall

I had a 8kW Solar system installed around the end of November last year (3 weeks after getting my model 3 performance), along with a Zappi, Eddi and PowerWall. Yeah I suspect it is a hardware fault, I did call the roadside number and they did say they would arrange for it to be towed to Leeds (from Newcastle) but did not mention supplying a rental. Luckily for now it charged successfully yesterday so it is back to 90% charge this morning, They have...

Thanks again all for the replies, it’s been intermittent for the last week or so. I have tried both the 3 pin cable and the home charger to rule out it actually being the home chargers fault. Comparing Electricity price plans -- there's not as much in it as you think
