That is frustrating. I guess Tesla considers lack of heating a safety issue (which it is), so won't let you take your own car! Paying for connectivity is annoying - they should at least compensate you for that. Do they pay for gas for the rental car?

That's too bad. I assume from your forum join date that you have a 2020 Tesla. Those are known to have hardware issues.

I asked what the error code was in the Canada forum, so this answers that. I doubt the problem has anything to do with louvres at that temperature. Service time!

A mobile tech just visited to make sure our Model Y had no hardware issues causing our heating problem. Diagnostics showed everything was ok. He believed things would be fixed by firmware only and that the current firmware is expecting sensor tolerances that are too tight. My speculation...

Yes. I think there are numerous issues cropping up in this cold. Some are hardware and some are software. No fun and not building confidence in our new Model Y. I also had a cooling failure related to a sensor in my non-heat-pump Model 3 this summer during the heat dome.

You're in California. I'm sure the message is only shown when it's cold.

Thanks for the report. Good results so far! Another user from Quebec reported the issue is fixed as well. An even better test would be to leave the car outside and let everything (including the HV battery) get completely cold soaked overnight. Then try to heat it with the app.

This is not good news. However, it is possible that your heating problems are being exacerbated by a faulty outdoor temperature sensor.

Apparently Tesla doesn't use a resistance heater at temperatures below -10C, but something called compressor heating (excerpt below from an InsideEVs article). This heating mode has similar efficiency to resistance heat at COP=1.

This might be the cold weather feature intended to stop the windows from freezing closed. Which is why it only happens when you're not in the vehicle. This was introduced last year, so should also have been happening with the previous version if the outside temperature was cold enough.
