    [UK] 2024.14.x

I've had 2024.14.6 for a couple of days now and agree the speedo font size, improved visualisations and wiper controls etc, are all welcome changes. One oddity I have noticed is that the indicators seem reluctant to self-cancel when turning off a roundabout or on some other turns, meaning I...

Tesla wants to replace my Model Y Standard Range battery pack with an LFP pack

You can but it uses energy to pre-heat. Doesn't help with the reduced efficiency in colder weather compared to a 'conventional' battery.

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

On your first point, and to be fair to Octopus, it was within the Tesla app that I was offered the choices on access. Part of the Octopus process prompts you to sign into the Tesla App. Again, thanks for the help.

Brill - thanks v much @browellm I did try via the Octopus website as well as their app, but didn't know the Tesla online account had the necessary 'back door'. Wonder if Octopus will ever find out? Cheers

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

I made the mistake of 'simply' deleting my car with a view to re-connecting it as Octopus asked. Disaster. TL/ DR - Tick both boxes. As ever, it turns out more complicated than you might think, at least for me it is. On the re-sign up process, a (Tesla) screen pops up asking you to tick either...

    Changes to Supercharging?

I suspect the sub plot is to increase membership numbers as that delivers passive/renewable income. That the non-member charging costs will be increasing is the driver.

That's it. Blue dot indicates something has changed in the feature it points to. Open that menu and the changed item should also have a blue dot. Disappears after you have responded to the change.

Is there any difference between Pilot Sport 4 and Pilot Sport 4 acoustic tyres?

Wasn't the reduced top speed (125mph?) part of the reason for the tyre change with the Highland? Seem to recall Musk saying that as no one regularly drives at 140 mph* reducing the top speed could reduce tyre cost as lower speed rating applies? *(Tough luck Fritz!)

    So… Highland is out…

If and when the Roadster deliveries do start, I wonder if Tesla will find a way to weasel out of the promised 'free' cars for the big hitters on the old referral scheme?

    Tesla Alternative?

The Munro Live videos on YouTube are interesting on the Mach E. Particularly when they compare the thermal system with that of a Model Y - explains why there is no room for much storage space under the bonnet. More or less filled with rubber hoses. See here.

    Tesla Alternative?

I've not seen the new red 'in real life' but it sounds stunning by all accounts. I bought red partly because it was the least common colour, no surprise of course given the cost, but also because I really like it. The tone seems to change depending upon the light source, artificial light makes...

Tesla wants to replace my Model Y Standard Range battery pack with an LFP pack

I would agree the new LFP battery looks like a no brainer. That said, one minor negative is that I read the cold weather performance isn't as quite good as the standard battery, but depending where you are located that might not be an issue.

    Thinking of selling

If you've already paid the car off, then I'd hang onto it for the foreseeable as the running costs will be very little and the convenience of the Tesla network makes life easier than any other EV, assuming you aren't going back to the dark side.. If you were to replace it, what would you buy...

    Scotland road trip

We've been to Mull a couple of times. Brilliant place. Tesco at Oban has a few chargers and although busy you can normally get on them. There is also one on the Oban ferry terminal but it wasn't accessible when we went. Once you arrive, there are a couple of decent Charge Place Scotland...

Auto Defogger - how to turn it off ?

I haven't much joy with the auto defogging function either. What does auto defogging actually do and is it the same as the front windscreen de-mister button? On the odd occasion I do have cause to use it, I get the impression that the front windscreen defogger actually turns off the AC and just...

    [UK] 2024.2

It is a bit like the problems with the MCU 1 upgrades on the older model S cars - much debate about who would pay for what, but the nub of the problem was that the current processing demands ended up being far more than the c 2013 hardware could manage. For those not close to the topic Tesla...

After purchase when can I start using the Tesla charging network

On the assumption you can't use superchargers for this trip, on 'A Better Route Planner' don't put your car down as a Tesla or else it will direct you to superchargers. Pick anything else, perhaps with a similar range so it will direct you to suitable non-Tesla chargers.

After purchase when can I start using the Tesla charging network

There should be 2. One is a type 2 charger cable which has a similar plug at each end, although one end is slightly bigger than the other. For use at 7kW type public or home chargers without a cable. The other is an AC charger (likely in a square case) which allows you to plug into a 3 pin...

    So… Highland is out…

That very point is causing much consternation in the motorcycle world just now. BMW have launched their new 'flagship' R1300GS without a rear light, instead a radar block/receiver takes its place. All the rear light functions are carried out by the led indicators, leaving the back end looking...

    Take control of vehicle!!!

Almost identical to my experience. Turning right at a 'T' junction from minor road to main road. 100 yards from home and happened about 3 times. (I'm in the UK so my right turn is the same as your left turn in terms of road positioning and road markings).

    Discretionary Commission Arrangements

Presumably the lender was tied to the manufacturer - like Ford Credit, Volvo Finance etc? This would typically be the case on most new car sales offers like the 0%, 4.9% etc, clearly just a means of subsidising additional sales. The 0% Ford Credit offered required a 50% deposit so the lending...

    Discretionary Commission Arrangements

Interesting topic this one. I was involved in the motor finance trade in the 80's and 'difference in charges (DIC)' structures were commonplace amongst the larger dealers and groups. The supporting finance house would offer consumer finance support to the dealer at a given rate and whatever...

    Take control of vehicle!!!

I had that warning a couple of times a month or two ago at the same place making a turn from a side road onto a main road. Assuming the acceleration boost is still available, I guess the 'boosted' LR could more or less match your P on a 0-60 basis? Obviously no track mode, fancy brakes and whatnot, but at least acceleration might be comparable.

    So… Highland is out…

I think I've seen that the 'stalkless' setup anticipates what you will be doing next in a manoeuvre and chooses the gear (d/r) accordingly? If that is the case, I would hope that as soon as you stop reversing it will switch to forwards using witchcraft? Obviously, you will still need to check...

    Sainsbury's Launch Own-Brand Charging Network

Agreed. I would hope that is in the longer term thinking, when a wider network of Sainsbury's chargers is up and running. Likewise, doubtless they will 'have a plan' to leverage the perceived advantage the charging network offers them. Store credit, charging discount via loyalty cards or similar?

    Model Y UK Delivery

Some kind of silicon liners for the cup holders is handy - they seem to attract bits of fluff, dust etc and it a pain to get the last bits out without a hoover. With a liner you can just lift it out and give it a shake.
