    Reverse actually drove car forward!

I appreciate the answers and suggestions. I think it was an issue with "hold" and a minimal incline. Our front wheels were on gravel and rear wheels on pavement. I suspect hold did fine, but when my wife carefully pushed the accelerator, the hold mode released, but there were not enough...

    Reverse actually drove car forward!

My wife is having no luck with our new Tesla. Today she put it in Reverse, and when she pushed the accelerator, we went forward. I was sitting next to her and could confirm that the gauge cluster said “R,” and the rear camera was displayed. When she let go of the brake, we stood still. As soon...

FSD/AP3 for AP2.0 owners now MCU2 upgrade becoming available?

Agreed. I was idly speculating before that they would change the camera but I've learned since then that the cameras are close to identical with only a single filter change. Same for the radar, I think, where there is only a 10ft difference. So I'm no longer concerned that the AP2.0 cameras are...

The Tesla Model S is the most amazing thing I've ever seen.

I also find it hard to drive rental cars when I travel. I'm getting so used to AutoPilot doing it's thing well on the highway and in heavy traffic that I assume my rental car will do the same (they don't, even if they have adaptive cruise and lane assist)

    MCU shut off every morning

Yes - BUT my understanding is that the model 3 liquid cools the MCU and this will probably make a big difference.

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Also, the end of March is the timeline for sending out invites. Really says nothing about how fast they can be schedules. It's encouraging that at least one 2.5 owner has the upgrade scheduled for _this week_. Perhaps there is a chance I could get mine updated before Summer.

Congratulations @peteyswift! It's great to see that 2.5 upgrades are planned. Please let us know how it works out.

I just put a 2nd deposit down and need advise....

It's only AP2.5+ (HW2.5 and MCU2) and above that have working Sentry mode. I have HW2 and it will flash but not record anything. If you have a AP2.0+/MCU1 car then you can soon upgrade the MCU for $2500 and get sentry mode at that point. I don't disagree but I still choose to buy an AP2 car...

The Tesla Model S is the most amazing thing I've ever seen.

I agree. Navigate on AutoPilot is a great feature... sometimes. It does surprisingly good selecting lanes and even taking most freeway exits. I do find it too aggressive with changing lanes, especially in rush hour traffic. The car in front is doing the speed I want but slows down for 30 seconds...

The Tesla Model S is the most amazing thing I've ever seen.

I just picked up my S two weeks ago today. It's an astonishing car that does so many big and small features correctly. The small are things like "no start/stop button", self-presenting door handles (that make you feel welcomed) and an always-on cruise-control (no need for hitting the on/off...

I just put a 2nd deposit down and need advise....

I very recently bought my Tesla and it clearly stated FSD Enabled. Any other statement simply means that the car has some version of AP2. So your car will not have FSD enabled.

MCU1 S Owners: Logic FOR/AGAINST Tesla's $2,500 "Infotainment Upgrade"? (Not required for FSD)

I don't think you will see a resale _bump_ from upgraded MCU2. I doubt the average buyer has any idea or care much about how fast the MCU is working. They just see a big screen and are happy. There might be some buyers on forums like this that would pay a little extra but they also know it's...

    2020 Updates for MCU2/AP2

I don't think AP improved at all, and I suspect I will not see many more AP improvements until I get HW3 and it's clear that Tesla is also doing a large code restructuring that is holding up progress. I wouldn't be surprised if we take a step back before we move forward with the next few...

Proper battery hygene and observations about charge capacity

It seems the discussion is about two things BMS' ability to report an accurate range Actual Battery degradation. Charging to a high state of charge will improve the first but, over time, increase the second. Staying at a low state of charge will confuse #1 but slow down #2. Staying low...
  17. ekendahl

I just put a 2nd deposit down and need advise....

Yes, AP2 cars will not be upgraded to HW3 unless you buy FSD and this car does _not_ have FSD enabled. You don't need HW3 for Sentry Mode dashcam but you do need AP HW2. You could buy FSD at a later date and Tesla would upgrade at that point. Both cars have the MCU1 (media control unit). Tesla...

    Tempest Wheels

Yes, it's clear that this is a cost cutting measure for Tesla. If they offered a noticeable range increase then I would still want them but Tesla has been quiet about that so far.

Does anyone else have trouble buckling in Child Seats?

The seat buckles are not great but my seven year old son can do it most of the time. The Ford Flex with captain’s chairs and airbag in the seat belts was way worse. So for me it’s a slight improvement.

Ready to pull the trigger - 2019 SR vs 2020 LR+?

Congratulations. I'm confident You will love the car! If you can (this might be considered used?) please add someone's Tesla Referal code. That way you and the other person get 1000 miles free supercharging. Mine is Earn Free Supercharging Miles or a $250 Cash Award (hint hint)

I would! But that cannot be done by the Ranger.
  23. ekendahl

Ready to pull the trigger - 2019 SR vs 2020 LR+?

I'm not saying that an LR doesn't make sense for some people but the standard range is enough range for most. The advantage with the LR is on long (500miles+), multi supercharge trips. And even then not to skip superchargers but to charge faster at each stop. With a standard range, you will...

Ready to pull the trigger - 2019 SR vs 2020 LR+?

I would **not** pay the $7500 in your case. You seem, like me, not use the car for long road trips frequently. Your car will be used rarely and around town. It will be plugged in most of the time and if you want to extend the range in winter simply pre-heat the car for an hour before you take a...

2012-2013 Model S vs PHEV alternatives -- looking for an advice

It's a hard choice. I would lean towards a used S but mostly because I want to send a message to the car industry that BEV is what I want. In theory, EV should be less affected by high mileage and be simpler car than ICE cars and even more Hybrids who gets the complexity of both ICE and battery...

    Doubt:Buy Model S used 2014 or wait I can afford M3

This is exactly what I did. I think a lot of 3 year leases for 11/16 and 12/16 75D are going through the system now. Add $2500 to the budget and you get the MCU2 sometime this year. Pretty good deal.

    Doubt:Buy Model S used 2014 or wait I can afford M3

They are such different cars! It’s like comparing a BMW 7 series with a BMW 3. One is a grand tourer the other a fun machine that loves to be tossed in corners. In general and in Italy I would lean toward a 3 (BMW or Tesla) as the S is a BIG and LONG car. For me, I “had to” go with the S as I...

Tesla S HW 2.0 upgrade schedule for FSD paid option

It depends. If you are interested in the $2500 MCU2 upgrade then it seems they will start sending out HW3 + MCU2 upgrades at the end of March. I will use this offer since I just bought my car and plan to keep it. If you do not want to upgrade the MCU then it’s still unclear when they will start...

opinions on trade-in offer for my S85

If 40k is private sell then 33k is an expected offer. I asked the Tesla person if they would match a CarMax offer when I traded in my Ford Flex. They accepted and I was able to gain a couple of thousand taking it to CarMax. Perhaps you could do the same?

    Doubt:Buy Model S used 2014 or wait I can afford M3

Why go for the performance model S if you are comparing to a SR+? Look for a 60/70/75 option. It will be much cheaper. If you by a used S from Tesla then it probably comes with warranty. On these boards it seems like P85 owners are among the most unhappy. Slower charging and battery...

    2020.8.1

I was hoping 2020.8.1 would offer "improved regen" for my 2016 S but it doesn't. It's only improved voice commands and change when Bluetooth is engaged. I'd like to see the S slow all the way down to a stop - blending mechanical breaks under 8 mph as needed. Having to touch the break, just...

So is HW2.0 to HW3 finally going to be available later this month?

And from what I learned the cameras are basically the same with only a filter difference. I could see a green filter working better in some circumstances but I doubt it will matter. Same for the radar as the newer radar only seem to have 10m extra range (and perhaps better resolution?).
  38. ekendahl

So is HW2.0 to HW3 finally going to be available later this month?

I agree. I bought a 2016 model with FSD. I was expecting the HW3 upgrade but I was _not_ expecting to get MCU1 updated. MCU1 has acceptable performance but is _slow_ compared to newer cars. I plan to keep that car for a long time to upgrade the MCU is easily worth it to me. With the update, my...

    Choosing NEW vs. CPO HELP!

With recent announcements I think buying a pre-March 2018 makes _more_ sense (for people in the know). Just add $2500 (-FM) to the price and you will get the MCU2 sometime this year. You will find that 2017 and _especially_ late 2016 are way cheaper then March 2018 and now offer 97% of what...

MCU1 S Owners: Logic FOR/AGAINST Tesla's $2,500 "Infotainment Upgrade"? (Not required for FSD)

Our current radio module is not compatible with the new MCU board. The cost of the Radio Module is not that high but adds a lot of person-hours to snake wires etc. Tesla made the decision that at $2500 they wouldn't offer to upgrade the radio - probably due to the number of person-hours it would...

    HW2 vs HW2.5+ camera differences?

I don't know the details for other differences between the HW2 and 2/5 cameras. I speculated in another thread that they might replace the cameras for us, 2.0 owners - if only to reduce the number of configurations they need to code for. I have no idea if that will actually happen. That said I...

I think this post should be a stickie in the S and X forums.

So is HW2.0 to HW3 finally going to be available later this month?

They seem to have changed the date since yesterday. When i looked yesterday they stated "late March" for us 2.0 upgraders. Now it's "early April". I suspect they will be crowded with updates so it will be hard to get a time even when we get the invite. I'm practicing patience.

    2017 100D - AP2 MCU1 with FSD Question?

Tesla is stating that you don't need MCU2 for FSD. With MCU2 you will get "improved visualisation" whatever that means. This doesn't mean MCU1 will have no visualization. My own speculation is that MCU1 will handle visualization as we see it today (including cones and traffic lights) but that...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

I don't care that much about sentry mode and even less if my version is b&w. It's mostly idle speculation as I wait for Elon's invite.

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Cool!. Stated more clearly than I remembered so they must have a solution. It still seems reasonable to me that they will switch out the cameras for 2.0 owners. That way the whole FSD fleet has the same camera source for their processing (but it would still leave a slightly different radar). I...

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Agree - but that is now what Tesla's webpage is indicating. That's one reason I was wondering if they might upgrade the cameras as well. It's probably just an oversight from Tesla on its website.

Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

Thank you. I didn't realize it would be hard to get to the pillar cameras! Since that is the case then I'm sure they will keep the camera b/w for 2.0 cars. I just figured the cameras must be cheap and changing them during the swap would reduce the codebase they need to maintain.
