Never happened again on my X and NHTSA never did get back to me. It would be wise for you to file an incident with NHTSA just so you have it on record that it happened twice -- once after it was allegedly repaired by the service center.

If helpful, companies like Metromile have an adapter to plug into the 12v outlet and into the metromile device. This is a good alternative for those who don't want to plug into the OBDII port and because it's not plugged in shouldn't interfere with the car.
