New Edmunds' Article. Mach-E GT vs MYP.

Honest question; I get that the Volvo system seems better at distance control, but it does not also steer - or does it?

Cautionary tips for new drivers of the Tesla

I thought the same regarding the steering, surprised to learn that Teslas (and presumably BMWs) have such faster steering.

Will Tesla still be a desirable car in 5 years?

Tesla's mission statement has always been to pave the way and to and drive the transition to sustainable energy, not 'sell as many car as possible', I think there's a fundamental difference. By keeping the designs as long as possible, this discourages the mentality or upgradeitis every 'model...

Goodbye M2 coupe, hello Model 3 LR

You have. I used to have an E90 2011 M3 competition, and my MYP would murder it. I do still think the M cars have the edge in looks (latest M3 and M4 aside), but performance and fun (even lacking the piped in BMW engine noise) will quickly kill any doubts. Welcome to the future...

    Auto-Pilot - I give up, it's downright lethal

Cruise control / Auto Pilot is Garbage

Are you sure it is not just adjusting for a changed speed limit? The slow down can be quite abrupt if you have settings as such.

    Auto-Pilot - I give up, it's downright lethal

Right, similar here in US, AP works on most roads, but can be very erratic. Somewhat understandable in that Tesla state for Highways only, but then why does it work on non Highways...
  19. P

    Auto-Pilot - I give up, it's downright lethal

Yes good points. I imagine their development is US centric either intentionally or in relation to the volume of user data and UK roads generally are far more complex overall, hoping we see some serious improvements soon, the latest FSD Beta videos give me some hope.
  20. P

    Auto-Pilot - I give up, it's downright lethal

How is the AP usage described for UK market? In US it is described as being for Highway use only, which would be Motorway and not Dual Carriageways in a direct comparison. Some of the conditions being described here would seem to indicate non motorway use? Not excusing any random behaviour -...

Well I already screwed it up :) Any advice?

Just personal opinion, but I wouldn't bother with a professional repair. If you touch it up you (no one who doesn't know it's there at least) won't see it without looking for it. Also, it's very likely to happen again at some point, all of my low front cars have gotten scraped up on front...

MASTER THREAD: FSD Subscription Available 16 Jul 2021

I honestly think the lane change treatment in AP is a deliberate impediment to the experience in order to 'fluff up' the appeal of the (current) FSD feature set.

MASTER THREAD: FSD Subscription Available 16 Jul 2021

I purchased the trial subscription for a road trip this weekend, similar perspective. I do like the traffic light bong and being able to change lanes without the AP process of disabling and re-enabling AP was refreshing. I found the traffic light control function very unfriendly to use in...

Tesla, please get rid of the fake leather and use real leather

Often wondered the same thing, I think there is still 'status' attached to 'real' leather seating and/or surfaces, though as others have pointed out both the 'value' of leather (cost) and authenticity is highly debatable. Anyone who has experienced a car say 5 years+ old with leather must surely...

A sincere effort from a hater to adapt to living in a world with Teslas

Like most here, I think it's great to be able to openly show an open mind and applaud you for doing so, if only more of this tribe called humanity could make an effort to be so... You are in an enviable situation in that you can choose your vehicles for pleasure. I have been lucky to be able...

Model Y Range LR Vs Performance

I don't know on timelines, but hopefully won't be that long. The good news is that the longer you do wait more likely you might pick up some more enhancements. This all said, if you do end up going with the LR you will love it no doubt anyway!
  29. P

Model Y Range LR Vs Performance

I have MYP largely for same reason you are leaning that way - I did not want to be driving around thinking 'should I have gotten the performance'? Although it is a completely emotional 'argument' for the MYP, I say very strongly if there is doubt, then there is no doubt...

Elon Musk Confirms Made-In-Texas Model Y Will Be 4680-Powered

Curious, why do you say this - are they rated for a limited amount of power or such, or just conjecture? I don't think Tesla even state the current power output officially (I might be wrong), let alone power limits but curious to know.
  35. P

Elon Musk Confirms Made-In-Texas Model Y Will Be 4680-Powered

I'll be interested to see if this does materialize but also how they will capitalize on the benefits of these cells, cheaper selling price (unlikely), higher margin (not initially), greater range (likely small incremental bump initially IMO), higher speed performance (possible, but less likely IMO).
  36. P

    Model Y wait or buy?

You won't see anything that substantial (engineering) likely not until Berlin is in production (EU cars only I believe) which will be at least a year, and I think battery pack longer. I also wouldn't expect to see anything like that much price reduction either. I would 100% say buy now based on...

charging, how often do you plug in at home?

I plug in each night even with similar errand running <20m per day I would say. I take the Dog out each night last thing so is super easy routine for me, but certainly isn't needed. I have also read many times it is 'better' to be plugged in, but no real deficit if you only plug in when (before)...

Should I buy my current leased X?

I would extend month to month to the maximum possible. I don't know how long they will allow but for example BMW for me extended up to 6 months. Your buy rate will still be 'structured' to the existing depreciation schedule and mileage allowance during this period rather than floating to market...

"Elon’s tweet does not match engineering reality per CJ." - CJ Moore, Tesla's Director of Autopilot Software

Seriously Porsche!? Tempted to jump ship, new Taycan Turismo

Without referring to that list (interesting BTW), how many non Tesla owners would have awareness? Aside from the nose cone, they still look the same, and again I think re-sale values support my opinion on this.
  45. P

Seriously Porsche!? Tempted to jump ship, new Taycan Turismo

I feel it depends on the auto maker, most are deliberately making changes to drive new sales (obivously), switch cars every 3-5 years at most, and the most cost effective place to do this (self driving R&D aside perhaps) are the tech 'gadgets'. Tesla is breaking this trend, the Model S since...

Seriously Porsche!? Tempted to jump ship, new Taycan Turismo

Agreed on leasing. Legacy auto makers are looking to drive (sorry) 'upgrades' with frequent changes, Tesla is about sustainability hence the very long stretches between major refreshes and the approach of putting everything UI into one space that can be changed via OTA pushes.

First sorry for this incident, but honestly you have been very fortunate that the shop is taking care of you like this. You have spared a fair expense and I am sure you will not be able to even see the blemish. I am curious on the expectation that the car would prevent a low speed (say <5mph)...
