Who needs a roadster when you have model s plaid?

You could direct pre-compressed air to cooling fans attached to batteries and motors and then out of a nozzle in back of the car. You'd get critical component cooling and acceleration.

Who needs a roadster when you have model s plaid?

Sold my Prius (50mpg) to get a Volt (200mpg). Sold the Volt to get a Model 3 (infinite mpg).

2020 M3. Phantom braking with FSD and with TACC. Irritating.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try just turning on the screen and see if that gets me access to my car.

They're pushing to get lots of cars delivered before the end of the quarter. Fortunately for you, they just instituted a full year of unlimited supercharging for any delivery before the end of the calendar year.

Car no longer opening with phone [Samsung Galaxy?]

I have a Samsung Galaxy S9, and the same thing happens to me. I walk up to my 2020 M3, but I can't unplug it until I take the phone out of my pocket and fire up the Tesla app.

    Nannypilot Killed the Autopilot Star

I have a 2020 M3 with FSD. It doesn't have the beta version. It does read speed limit signs, and when I'm driving using FSD on a road where the speed limit decreases, my car does not slow down. It keeps going at the 10 percent above the previous posted limit rather than slowing down to 10...

    Auto Pilot questions

OK, the version I have, which has stoplight and stop sign recognition turned on, still isn't the limited one that makes turns on city streets. If I need to make a 90-degree turn on a city street, autosteer turns itself off. Frankly, the version of FSD that I really want is the one that may not...

    Auto Pilot questions

I'm a relatively new Tesla driver, M3 SR+ bought in June. I paid for FSD because FSD is the reason I bought a Tesla instead of another brand of electric car which would have cost much less. I've used FSD on city streets, and I've become quite familiar with its limitations (I don't have the beta...

FSD rewrite will go out on Oct 20 to limited beta

The trouble with HD maps as a way for the car to know what's out there even in dense fog or other or visibility conditions is that even with excellent signals from the GPS network, there's still a few meters of uncertainty as to the actual location of the car. With poor signal quality, there's...

Regen causing unintended acceleration, according to new study?

Yes, I'm aware. That's why I haven't complained about it to Tesla. The point I was making is that once the actual FSD comes down the line, I hope that the car does its own creeping forward to see what's coming down the road before crossing or turning at an intersection.
  12. HenryFarkas

Regen causing unintended acceleration, according to new study?

There's a mild unintended acceleration that occurs all the time on my M3. It happens when the car is on the partial FSD that came with the car when I bought it in June, and the car stops itself at a stop sign. The car stops where it's supposed to stop, but often, I can't see around bushes to...

Blog Tesla’s Full Self-Driving Software Deployed to ‘Careful Drivers’

2020.40.4 isn't the update you're looking for. I have that update, and my car still can't make 90-degree turns by itself, and it still needs permission to go through green lights unless there's a car in front of me that's going through the green light. Frankly, when true FSD arrives, I think...

If that happened, the passenger would give the cabby a lousy review, and Uber would fire him.

Tesla to launch Full Self Driving beta to select drivers next week

When I was a kid, I read a science fiction story in which the protagonist got into a self-driving cab, and not only did the cab take him where he wanted to go, it had a conversation with him that would have passed the Turing test. It would be cool if that sort of thing could actually happen in...

Tesla to launch Full Self Driving beta to select drivers next week

I believe you that autosteer won't protect you from cars parked in the street, but eventually, it's going to have to do that if Elon expects us to be able to send our cars out to work for us when we're not using them.
  18. HenryFarkas

Tesla to launch Full Self Driving beta to select drivers next week

The parked car issue is important. I can't turn FSD on when I'm on a street (like my own block) where there are some parked cars. My M3 doesn't even see all the parked cars. It sees some of them. It even does some phantom braking. But it doesn't see all of them.

Tesla to launch Full Self Driving beta to select drivers next week

That's a good point, and of course, it's correct. The difference is that people without FSD are always alert and engaged in the driving process. Those of us who enjoy playing with new tech need to work at staying engaged even when the FSD is doing a good job since it's tempting to relax and...

Tesla to launch Full Self Driving beta to select drivers next week

Remember, Elon didn't say the rewrite would be actual FSD. He says that his car can go from home to work with nearly no intervention. He didn't say that he never had to intervene. It's still a work in process, and those of us, like myself, who purchased FSD, knew or should have known, that we...

    AutoPilot Almost Killed Me!

Sorry to tell you that phantom braking occurs even with cruise control. That's why the driver has to stay engaged.

Tesla to launch Full Self Driving beta to select drivers next week

I don't have any insider knowledge, but if I were writing the FSD system, I'd use the neural network that connects every Tesla back to the Tesla FSD cloud to obtain information about each of the little byways all over the world. I'd get the network to collect information about how previous...

Tesla to launch Full Self Driving beta to select drivers next week

Elon is going to give the first FSD upgrades to skillful, careful drivers. My wife assures me that I'm not in either the careful or the skillful driver category. I guess I'll have to wait for a wider release.

Home Charge Points Discussion and Suggestions [megathread]

Why do you even need a charger? Since you're quoting prices in pounds rather than dollars, I'm assuming you live in the UK. They have 230-volt electricity coming out of every wall socket. So just plug your car into any socket capable of taking 30 amps. I plug my M3 into an ordinary 120-volt...

    Real FSD preview?

My M3 can't even make a 90 degree turn automatically when on FSD on city streets. It's still unable to take a sharp curve on a country road without my intervention so all this talk about FSD being delayed by regulators is quite premature. Once the car can go from my garage to my destination...

    SuperCharger Free Miles Expiration ?

I understand that Tesla can't subsidize free electricity for everyone who lives near a Supercharger. But for those of us who bought our Teslas during the pandemic, helping Tesla to show a profit when other car companies weren't selling many cars, there should be an extension of the time frame...

Review of FSD after software update June '20

Now that I've become more familiar with the car, I have a concept that no one but me will like. Here it is. Set the settings on chill, not normal and set the steering on sedate, not sport. FSD still isn't as smooth as I'd like for it to be, but it's way smoother than it was when I first started...

    SuperCharger Free Miles Expiration ?

Thanks, that's what must have happened. When I looked at the episode in the app on my phone, I saw that the miles were taken off the free miles that are going to disappear in December. Too bad there's a pandemic. I like car trips, but I can't get too enthusiastic about catching COVID-19.

    SuperCharger Free Miles Expiration ?

I bought my M3 in June. Not going on trips so didn't get a chance to supercharge until today. I was in the neighborhood of a supercharger so I decided to have lunch and pack in some of the 1000 free miles I got by using a cousin's referral code. After I charged, I discovered that they charged my...

    Battery Day...

Here's a thought. If the batteries become integral to the structure of the car, then replacing worn-out batteries will essentially mean the replacement of the whole car. That just happened with my phone. But maybe, if the batteries last a million miles, the car will need to be replaced by the...

    Blind spot warning chime

My brother has a Honda ICE car. It does that for right lane changes but not for left lane shifts. He thinks that Honda wants the driver to look at the left outside mirror before a lane change. That doesn't help much with the blind spot so there's a light that turns on in the left mirror when...

    Tesla Coal Rolling?

Diesels send out dangerous particulates even when they're not rolling coal. When that super black smoke comes out their exhaust pipe, it's usually on purpose, and it's a crime, even in the United States.

    Unintended Stop Sign

That's different from what my car does. It stopped for a stop sign that had been knocked down by a collision and was no longer visible, and it didn't stop for a stop sign that was being held up by a flagger who was directing traffic into a single lane while repairs were going on in the other lane.

Actually, there is vehicle to grid (or home) capability just waiting for Elon Musk to turn it on. My guess is that it will work only with hardware attached to the house that doesn't yet exist, but according to the article below, Elon is planning to institute this feature. Tesla quietly adds...

    Automatic Emergency Braking

Try it again after the next OTA update. Autopilot improves every so often. Every time there's an OTA software update, they tell you what the update addresses. If it addresses Autopilot, then they may have improved the phantom braking situation. I purchased my M3 in June with FSD. The phantom...
