FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Yep, sure enough recalibrating the cameras made a world of difference. It feels like a completely different system and is now very usable. It did take a VERY long time for the recalibration for the FSD, probably over 100kms of highway driving.

All US Cars capable of FSD will be enabled for one month trial this week

Just wanted to update this - I recalibrated the cameras (which took a LOOONG time) and 12.3.6's behaviour was greatly improved. It feels much smoother and more respectful of distances to curbs, the roadside, and other cars. I'm now actually having quite a few zero disengagement drives.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Just an update - I tried the reboot and camera recalibration and sure enough the difference is HUGE. Although it still accelerates a bit hard for my taste it's a lot smoother, and the lane following and braking behind stopped traffic is dramatically improved. Before, it was like it just...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Perhaps. I will try the reboot and camera calibration as it was coincident with the 14.6 update. Hoping for the best.

Elon Musk Discussion - Tesla Brand Damage

Like I said in another thread, literally nothing that he says has any credence unless proven with an actual outcome. Trying to parse out meaning from random blatherings is a recipe for a headache.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Okay, so after having 12.3.6 for the better part of a day and going on a longer drive I'm coming to the conclusion that if 11.4.x was like a teenage student driver, then 12.3.6 is like a 6 year old that can barely see over the wheel and has wooden blocks tied to their shoes to operate the...

    Entire Supercharging Team Fired?

That anyone puts any stock into ANYTHING he tweets at this point is remarkable. I automatically assume it's wrong/a lie unless proven by results. I'm still seeing people saying basically "FSD 12.4 is going to be *🔥*. Elon said so." Um, based on 12.3.6, that's a giant we'll see.

All US Cars capable of FSD will be enabled for one month trial this week

Same here! First short drive was uneventful, with the exception that it accelerates from every stop like it’s a dire emergency. That part feels very unnatural. ETA: Another drive and the acceleration really is annoying, rather than tapering the acceleration as it approaches the speed limit it...

All US Cars capable of FSD will be enabled for one month trial this week

Oh, I’m fully expecting we 8.9ers are out of luck at this point. The news cycle bang of that initial announcement has long been spent and the company now appears adrift. I would not be surprised if it’s not even being discussed anymore.

    Entire Supercharging Team Fired?

    Well, there's this. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/tesla-s-head-of-human-resources-exits-as-staff-upheaval-spreads/ar-AA1nZoZy

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I expect those controls likely only apply to the 11.4.x stack which is now only highway.
  12. G

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I'm becoming fairly convinced that with 8.9 they've replaced the original AP with a hobbled version of 11.4.x. I've suddenly noticed more phantom braking (with occasional swerving!), poorer lane line detection, and poor speed limit detection and management (e.g. seeing a 8 ton limit sign on a...

Help - Supercharger locations are all missing 2024.8.7

I haven’t encountered this specific bug, but I’ve had lots of other issues with 8.7, including navigation issues e.g. not recalculating arrival percentages when charging, bizarre routing, etc. Also bugs with the wipers just stopping working (when not in auto!) connectivity issues, and a big...

New Brunswick $5K incentive, Plug-In NB

Yep, you can get them. You have to apply directly for it so there’s a delay, but it was pretty fast.

    Sounds pretty normal! :)
  16. G

Model y lfp battery charging habits

That's likely going to depend on the ambient temperature around the car and whether the battery needed heating as it charged, which I suppose would leave the coolant in a warmed state. I wouldn't think it would have a big effect to the vent temperature though. As long as the HVAC is...

Model y lfp battery charging habits

It should be fine. Thats what I do, top it up if necessary for upcoming drives, but if I’m only driving local I’ll let it go a few days so it’s not sitting at 100 all the time. Charging to 100 doesn’t hurt so much as letting it sit at 100 for long periods.

    Canada Waiting Room

Tesla trade in offers are notoriously low. I sold my '21 Model 3 privately last fall for $10K more than they offered.
  19. G

I got a very unfair third strike that I do not understand. Please help.

In the case of this strike were you eating at the time? Eating with both hands off the wheel is not safe, even with AP. It’s exactly that type of thing that this update is to discourage.

Using FSD for 3 months - Is my experience typical?

This is basically my experience with the 3-month trial. Fascinating and in some ways amazing that it can do what it does, it's no where NEAR a fully usable product, it's more stressful than relaxing, and it's ridiculously overpriced. Regular AP seems so sweet and peaceful afterward. I love...

    FSD Beta v11.x

I think if the 2021 v11 interface holiday release taught us nothing else (well some of us anyway) it’s that pushing so many changes at once is a bad idea. Like then, it feels like they were pushed to hit an arbitrary deadline and rushed things out unfinished.
  22. G

    FSD Beta v11.x

That was my experience this morning, too. And after the sun came up they did more flapping than a flock of panicked seagulls.
  23. G

    FSD Beta v11.x

A split second before this, 4.9 decided it could confidently turn left in front of this car before I hit the brakes hard. And so did they, embarrassingly. It was clearly visible for many seconds before.
  24. G

    FSD Beta v11.x

Even though there's only two days left on my three month FSD trial, I still got the holiday update this morning, and moved from 11.4.4 to 11.4.9 and... oh dear. There is phantom braking where none before and aggressive stops at stop signs with slamming on the brakes the last metre or so...

    FSD Beta v11.x

That problem is what's so bewildering to me. Sun in the cameras will get those things flapping like a panicked seagull, but rain on the windshield that surely must be obscuring the cameras' view gets no reaction. When I press the button to get them to wipe, that seems to "wake" them up and...
  26. G

    FSD Beta v11.x

It would be interesting to see the distribution of wiper problems based on latitude. This time of year the further north you are the Sun is dropping quite rapidly each day closer to the horizon and I know that there are a number of angles to the Sun that seems to trigger my wipers.
  27. G

    FSD Beta v11.x

Oh, I’ve always just assumed that account is a Musk sock puppet.

    Canada Waiting Room

It's maybe not totally random. They seemed to come out at about midnight Pacific time on Sept 1. It looks like there may be price changes on some optional stuff and the system just sent out updates to everyone. Also, the loan agreement email confirmed my original interest rate, and I see...

    Financing Tesla vehicles in Canada

That's going to depend on your lending institution, I suppose. But my understanding has always been that the asset that you got the loan for still has to be in your possession as collateral against the amount owing. The only way to assign a new vehicle to it would be to renegotiate the loan...

    Financing Tesla vehicles in Canada

Do NOT lie about your mortgage. Nothing good would come of that. Most banks would specify household income but if you’re uncertain it’s best to ask them.

Anyone considering jumping onto the "Highland"?

Not that I would be likely to get a Model 3 again regardless, but even though I could probably deal with the removal of the shift stalk, losing the turn signal stalk is a hard no.

The old loan gets paid out and you start a new loan at the current rate. Unfortunately.

Side panel for driver seat popped off!

This is mine on the passenger side. It has been like this since day 1, over 1.5 years ago. The panels seems designed to slap on fast but not necessarily properly, which is a design problem. Inexcusable quality at this price point.
  36. G

Tesla M3 passenger door check strap making popping noises when closing and opening.

The exact same problem has surfaced in my 21 Model 3 SR+. Has been getting progressively worse over the last few months so just put in a service request. It’s interesting this is the exact same problem and noise that I had on my ‘93 Chrysler Intrepid front doors with the door checks. They...

    Elon Musk

This is about nothing more or less than him wanting to be able to say what he wants without backlash. He doesn't see any further than that and I'm fairly certain he couldn't care in the least about the voices of anyone else, particularly the voices of society which are historically ignored or...

Phantom Braking issues improved in 2022.4.5.17 update?

I just finished a road trip of about 1300 kms, much of which was on two lane highways. It was very much improved and virtually no braking for oncoming trucks, which was at 100% of the time before. That said, old behaviours seem to have cropped up again, like braking for overpass shadows on...

    Elon Musk

Today was disgusting, but unfortunately in retrospect not that surprising. I've been giving him the benefit of the doubt for some time, even though the toxic fandom that surrounds this company has been a constant put-off. But this tweet pretty much sealed it that when a person shows you who...

Everything wrong with V11 update / user interface.

Agree completely. V11 is a symptom. That it was released in the condition it was speaks a lot to either Tesla’s QA and testing, its management culture, or both. Either the team doesn’t really care or Elon pushed for it and no one could say no. Scary either way and not sustainable long term...

Recent heat pump failures - software issue?

That’s a good question. Does anyone know the timelines of this issue and if it was occurring before the v11 update? This version is super buggy and laggy and I wonder if the problem is related specifically to that update.
  42. G

    2021.44.30.5: Improved Phantom Braking?

Same - I think it's slightly better (but still bad) on the new v11 software, which is about the only improvement in that release. Likewise, it's pretty much unusable on two lane highways here and indeed it is crazy that a car in this price range doesn't have a usable cruise control.
  43. G

    V11 backup camera laggy

The possibility that there’s no one there that can say no is kind of disturbing.
  44. G

    2021.44.30.5: Improved Phantom Braking?

It's better, but not gone. Where before I had almost a 100% severe PB rate with oncoming vehicles bigger than a panel van, it's down to about 30%. So.. progress, I guess. It still makes driving a constantly tense experience so I usually just go without it if possible. Sad thing to say in a...

    V11 backup camera laggy

I have the same problem, and mine is a 2021 Model 3. Every time I back up there is temporary freezing and dropped frames. This on top of all the other bugs and usability issues on V11. This release should never have seen the light of day in its current state. One of the things about Tesla...

Does this mean that the new Tesla to CCS adapter will not work?

I *think* that just means that you don’t have a CCS type receptacle in the car like they have in Europe, etc.

    Windshield Wipers in Winter

Yeah, I think in that case it could be an arm tension issue - the arm is not pressing the blade to the windshield firmly enough, leaving less effective pressure toward the middle of the blade attachment. I have noticed on my 3 that the wipers arms are pretty easy to lift off the windshield vs...

    Windshield Wipers in Winter

I actually haven’t gotten them for my Model 3 (yet). I think the last ones I used were Rain-X brand, the higher end ones. I checked and I don’t see them listed for Tesla, but I suspect the sizes would be available. I looked at the ones you linked and they seem to be the same design though...

    Windshield Wipers in Winter

I’ve had this issue with OEM blades on every single car I’ve ever owned. Going with aftermarket “winter” blades has always been the only solution I’ve found.
