    NEM-PS Annual True-Up Calculation [PG&E example]

If they have argued it's not a Minimum, then surplus generators should be able to offset this fee with negative energy charges.

    CPUC NEM 3.0 discussion

Yes, we will have to see the unbundled rates to see where the variable reduction goes. I'm thinking it must come out of the distribution charges, which means that the Generation Charges that are par value for the CCAs will remain mostly the same. How it relates to the MDC and NBC will also be...

Poll: How many are still using original 12V Battery that came with the car?

It is common for an automotive part to come with its own warranty. For example, a Tesla drive unit installed in a RAV4 EV one month before the Powertrain Warranty expired comes with a 1 year warranty. If it fails 10 months later, 9 months after the powertrain warranty expired, it’s still...

    3.0 Battery Longevity

I am not a Roadster owner and I have never tried to order a new Roadster pack, but I could swear that I have heard stories of people being turned down when they tried to buy one. Maybe I'm imagining it??? The point of my post was to have the prospective buyer look into it before buying a known...

Honestly, I'm surprised that the demo even makes the power flow math work where Solar + Powerwall = Home + Grid Export.

    Advice regarding demand charge controller

My thinking, however accurate or inaccurate, is that both the DCC solution and the Tesla Dynamic Power Management solution need to put a CT meter around the main service. So, the two solutions are equivalent in installation difficulty and the Tesla solution should cost substantially less for the...

California Utilities Plan All Out War On Solar, Please Read And Help

Since this is a solar thread, we should consider this fixed fee in that context. 1. The current monthly charge is a Minimum Distribution Charge. If you have surplus generation credits, it does not offset MDCs. If this new monthly charge is a fixed fee and not a minimum, it could be offset by...

    Advice regarding demand charge controller

I think the Dynamic Power Management for Tesla Wall Connector is significantly cheaper to set up than a DCC. https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/finally-dynamic-power-management-for-wall-connector.320705/

Finally! Dynamic Power Management for wall connector

In theory, Tesla could allow you to put a Neurio anywhere you want and provide different usage profiles. For example, EV only draws what the solar is producing or EV draws just enough to prevent the meter from registering any export. However, these features are all unlikely in the short term...

    Charging two Teslas

Yes. IMHO, the preferred way is to install a small sub-panel in the same spot as the 14-50 outlet. The sub-panel is only $35 and each 50A breaker is only $20. Then you wire each Wall Connector to its own breaker and set the Group to 50A max. The only drawback to this is that whenever a car is...

Finally! Dynamic Power Management for wall connector

If you want solar charging, buy an EVSE that has that feature. Enphase bought Clipper Creek, so their smart units now have that feature. Emporia also has that feature, at least they have the feature to use solar energy that would normally be exported. I have Powerwalls, so Tesla Charge on Solar...

    CPUC NEM 3.0 discussion

In theory, at any given time, utility rates in total have to add up to the same amount regardless of the fee structure. So, by this theory, in order to increase the fixed fee for everyone, someone has to pay less per kWh. Now, I'm not naïve enough to think that this is actually how the CPUC...

Discussion: Powershare [V2X feature currently announced for Cybertruck]

I am not defending their price, but preparing the drawings and the extra visits to the site to wait for the utility to disconnect the service before the work and again to reconnect the service after and site visits for extra inspections could all be included in this line item on the quote.

    Charging/Using a US Model S in Europe

First thing is that the plug adapters for the Mobile Connector don’t care about voltage. If you are actually in Europe, you should be able to buy a direct Mobile Connector Gen2 Schuko plug adapter. If you are un the US and want to use a European inverter to Charge your Tesla, just get a Schuko...

Discussion: Powershare [V2X feature currently announced for Cybertruck]

I looked at the source tweet and there was $20,000 for a service upgrade to 320A and an additional fee of $2,500 to handle the permit for the service upgrade. I think the customer would have accepted the quote without those two items. I would be interested to see the single line drawing and...

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

I don't have anything to contribute regarding the new scheme, but I did finally get a paper check from Tesla for 2023 VPP. I have two Powerwalls and never observed them discharging anything more than my household consumption. ie. never discharged battery to grid. The check was for $199.75. I...

PowerShare for All Teslas & Integration - speculation

It is a relatively straightforward change to the PCS to enable bi-directional AC charging. I don’t expect Tesla to support DC V2X at all. I also don’t expect Tesla to certify their solution with utilities to allow true V2G going into the grid. The current CyberTruck implementation is purely...

Prediction: Coal has fallen. Nuclear is next then Oil.

I will say it again, Coal Capacity is not the same thing as Coal Consumption or Coal Emissions. I am not saying that China is doing everything that they should, but we need to be clear about what the presented figures actually mean.

How To Setup Charge on Solar

This is my ideal Charge On Solar: This is the non-ideal case. I had to turn down the car charging to allow the PWs to charge. My wife ended up taking the car out anyway, so I could have just let it charge the car first, then charge the PWs after the car was unplugged.

How To Setup Charge on Solar

I don't know if the schedule is a necessary condition, but I do have a Charge Start timer set for 12:15am on our Model 3. Charge on Solar always worked for me. The only thing that is not ideal sometimes is the car charging before the Powerwalls. I would prefer that the car never charge until the...

Prediction: Coal has fallen. Nuclear is next then Oil.

For many years, China has been planning to add many GW of solar and wind and at the same time add coal "capacity" so that there is never a chance of intermittent generating shortfall causing rolling blackouts. The intent is to grow the allowable peak demand, thereby allowing the economy to grow...

Using Tesla Wall Connector to charge a 2017 Leaf with J1772 adapter

I don't actually have one, but did you check the DIP switches inside. I thought the older ones, at least in Europe, had a compatibility mode switch that may or may not have been documented. You could try that and see if it helps your situation.

Discussion: Powerwall 3 [Speculation / Discussion etc]

For most people, there is no good reason to use PW3 without solar if you can get a PW2. The only good reason I can think of is if you need to start big motor loads and don't need as much energy capacity. I suppose technically, if you don't add any solar, they can't kick you out of NEM 2.

2024 Eclipse Effect on Solar in California

What's with all the 6 kW public L2 chargers? Why is it so rare to find faster AC charging options?

I would suggest that you should have high powered chargers in a section of the parking where you have to move your car, like visitor parking. The 6kW chargers should go in assigned parking stalls or long dwell where people are expecting to leave the car overnight or all day long. In fact, I...

What's with all the 6 kW public L2 chargers? Why is it so rare to find faster AC charging options?

No, it's just two chargers operating in parallel pushing current into the same (+) and (-) terminals on the high voltage battery.

What's with all the 6 kW public L2 chargers? Why is it so rare to find faster AC charging options?

You should be more selective about your use of the word "Free". Lots of stations are never free but always available. Conversely, stations that are always free are rarely available. Back to original topic. I think high power AC charging is a weird in-between use case that is hard to justify. I...

Using Tesla Wall Connector to charge a 2017 Leaf with J1772 adapter

I have never heard of turning the car on and off before. However, it is common to need to plug the NACS adapter into the Wall Connector cable first, wait like 30 seconds, then plug it into the car. It also depends on which NACS adapter you're using. Some work better than others.

    Questions about Solar+Powerwall3+Two Model Ys

I could tell that was the situation from the picture. I stand by my assertion that it would be possible to put them there. Same idea as what I suggested earlier - pour a footing to support a concrete stub wall to support the Powerwalls. In this case, you would also want to put a retaining wall...

    Questions about Solar+Powerwall3+Two Model Ys

Technically, the Powerwalls don’t have to be attached to your existing structure. You could pour a concrete slab to support a concrete stub wall just taller than the Powerwalls and mount all 4, two on one side and two on the back side of the concrete wall. Short underground conduit tun to the...

Disappointed that Tesla.app doesn't support the Roadster?

Definitely, the Gen3 Wall Connector would be able to charge your Roadster if it was commissioned as a home unit without billing. Once they turn on billing, you must have a S/3/X/Y car in order to charge because it depends on the car communicating with the Tesla cloud to authorize and handle billing.

Did you own any other brand of EV before getting a Tesla?

Immediately before the 2018 Model 3, we had a 2015 e-Golf on lease. I also bought a 2012 Toyota RAV4 EV new in 2013 that is still my daily driver. My daughter can get her license in 11 months, so I have about that much time to decide if I will buy a Model Y or some other EV. I haven't even...

Powerwall Companion - updated Windows app

I only have to do that when my UPS is dead and my Ethernet switch is down. Well, at least after I told the Tesla app to forget my WiFi.

Disappointed that Tesla.app doesn't support the Roadster?

Can you give a Plugshare link to the chargers you're trying to use? I am having a hard time getting it clear in my head exactly what equipment is being used and who is normally able to use it. 2 days ago had solar panels and Powerwall 3 installed and I thought it would provide solar right away

If your system is new, all the solar could be going to charging up the powerwalls while your home usage is still coming from PG&E. You should familiarize yourself with the app so that you know how to interpret the solar production, home consumption, and Powerwall energy flows...

    CCS1 retrofit required for 2024 M3LR?

If you go to pick up a new Model 3 and the screen says "CCS Not Supported", I would ask for a "Due Bill" before taking delivery. That means that they have to provide it at no charge, even if they do it later. Originally, CCS compatibility was not an advertised feature. Now, it is well known...

    First Powershare home installation

I think the OP was only considering conventional NEC load calc considerations. PCS can overcome that easily even in situations where nuisance trips would be rare even without the PCS.

    First Powershare home installation

If it's part of a Power Control System, it could be done. The UWC can communicate with a remote Neurio to reduce its load when the upstream feeder nears its limit. However, I don't know how and whether it can be applied to your specific situation.
