Powerwall 3 set to 45% backup reserve, at 43% now

You said it is a new system, do you have PTO? What mode do you have the system set to?
  2. T

2 days ago had solar panels and Powerwall 3 installed and I thought it would provide solar right away

Without the backup switch the system is unable to monitor what is coming or going to/from the grid. Pairing the phone to the Powerwall is more for when power is off and you have no communication with Tesla mother ship you can see how much battery and solar you have so you can manage your loads...

Enphase IQ8 & Powerwall add on

There are plenty of people who have a mixed system here and it works fine as long as it is done properly. I'm not familiar with Solar Edge but I believe it should be able to operate while your system is off grid as long as your batteries are less than 95% the batteries should put out a healthy...

Enphase IQ8 & Powerwall add on

Do you have the gateway with your current system? You will need CT's on the Enphase part connected to your existing system so the Powerwalls know that energy is there and how to handle it on and off grid.

    Volt meters for troubleshooting

I can not think of a legal and safe way to hook a small wire to a 100 or 200 amp line that I would want at my house and that would only be useful if you do not have the backup switch unlike the other person you are referring to.
  6. T

    Volt meters for troubleshooting

No electrician should hook a meter like you want to the line side of your meter. If someone did and your power company saw it they would not be very happy about it.
  7. T

    Volt meters for troubleshooting

The Emporia must have power for it to work but it still works if the Powerwalls are supplying the power to it. The same goes for your volt meters and unless they are strategically placed where the line from the grid can be monitored and that part of the line loses power when the grid goes down...

    Volt meters for troubleshooting

I agree with Matt but I like the Vue for the information you get in the app although it does not give you voltage readings it shows the wattage/current used.
  9. T

    Volt meters for troubleshooting

I don't see how the item you linked to would be of any use they go between a battery and a load to take readings. The Powerwalls connect through AC and at least 30 amps.
  10. T

    Volt meters for troubleshooting

For the Powerwall's feed I would call it bidirectional. I just wanted to point out that on the Vue CT's only the Mains are capable of reading bidirectional and the smaller CT's only read in one direction. I wanted to monitor each of my Powerwalls but I didn't think it was worth having a...

Help with issues involving total power loss and subsequently dysfunctional powerwall+ and solar system

I don't know but hopefully this https://www.tesla.com/support/energy/solar-panels/after-installation/troubleshooting-your-system can be helpful as you wait for Tesla. I have not gone through the troubleshooting steps but I have read up on the backup switch on their site.

Do I have control of the city/county inspection date?

It also depends on the equipment being installed and your power company. For Tesla to install the backup switch on my meter socket my power company TEP required a line disconnect and would not reconnect power without the county approval.

    Off-grid frequency shifting

Thank you I think I had frequency on my brain!
  14. T

    Off-grid frequency shifting

Correct on the curtailment I meant 98% and 97%. The graphic is from Emporia Energy monitor it is a CT around one leg of the Enphase combiner feeding in to my generation panel.
  15. T

    Off-grid frequency shifting

My Enphase profile looks like it should do well for me if I ever need it. In the pic below I went off grid and once the Powerwall hit 98% it started increasing the frequency and the Enphase was completely off by 62Hz then I started charging the car at 24A and the frequency was lowered to 60Hz...
  16. T

    Off-grid frequency shifting

Well I received the answer to how much would the grid profile allow to export and it looks like nothing. I called Enphase again and they switched my grid profile to Louisiana-IQ PW2 with no link to the profile from this person but the solar is back to working and I will have to see what it does...
  17. T

    Off-grid frequency shifting

Yes I can export to the grid although I don't get paid much for it. Can you tell me what kind of export limitations it has? The guy yesterday said the only way I can get access to my system is to pay for Enlighten that since I did not do the install I can not have access through the Tool Kit...

Tesla App Time of Use Setting?

I think for the car part of the app they only use it to give a cost of charging at home and they don't seem interested in being very granular with it.
  19. T

Tesla App Time of Use Setting?

Yes you can go to Settings Utility Rate Plan in the app and input your times and rates there. Edit Sorry I thought I was in the Energy forum if you just have the car I think you can only set a single price but not multiple for TOU plans.
  20. T

    Off-grid frequency shifting

I did not have much solar after the Enphase change and the Powerwalls we're at 98% is it normal for the Powerwalls+ to shut the inverter off so quickly?
  21. T

    Off-grid frequency shifting

This did not work for me I get connection refused. I know I used the correct ip because I can see the gateway home screen in a browser. I did manage to get someone from Enphase to change the grid profile after he talked to his team when telling me I needed to tell him what to change it. I will...
  22. T

    Off-grid frequency shifting

My Enphase was installed over 2 years ago I doubt I would get support from my installer. Thanks for the info I can give this a try when I get home.
  23. T

    Off-grid frequency shifting

I called Enphase before my Tesla system was operational and the person I spoke with told me the profile I have would support frequency shifting and after testing on my own I see that is not the case. I will call them again and see how far I can get. I did complete their training under a...
  24. T

    Off-grid frequency shifting

I think the Tesla part went well it slowly upped the frequency my problem was the Enphase IQ7+ did not respond.
  25. T

    Off-grid frequency shifting

I did an off grid test with my system the other day and I let the frequency got up to 64HZ and the Powerwall+ shut off the solar but the Enphase did not do any curtailment at all. I need to call Enphase to see if I can get them to take action or give me control so I can try and figure it out.
  26. T

    Off-grid frequency shifting

And from my conversation with someone at Enphase they are not interested in working with the customer since the Powerwall is not supported in their eyes.
  27. T

    Off-grid frequency shifting

I'm no expert but it looks to me that you have more solar then 1 battery can handle. It should be able to be setup to work with frequency shifting but will probably require Tesla to set a proper frequency stepping unless one of your installers can set the frequency shift.

Questions on Tesla Solar Inverter vs. Enphase Microinverters

I'm adding 5.1KW DC with a PW+ and another PW to my existing 5.2KW Enphase system because with the Tesla backup switch all of my circuits can remain in my meter/main panel and not have to be moved to another panel on the outside of my house. I like the Enphase warranty and that there is not a...

    Tesla solar in Tuscon AZ

Thanks for the information @araxara ! Hopefully somebody with batteries can chime in so I can see if it affects the rates at all.

    Tesla solar in Tuscon AZ

@araxara I guess it will be interesting to see if I get pushed into a different pricing plan when my system goes through them again considering I can not find anything on their site about the solar rate plans. So they zero out your credits twice a year and you get nothing back from them? It...

    Tesla solar in Tuscon AZ

@araxara it seems we have different plans I have only had my solar for one and a half years and my basic charge is $12.23 unless you are adding in all the other surcharges. I recently changed to their EV plan to get the whopping .01 per KWh savings at night even though I charge the cars with the...

    Tesla solar in Tuscon AZ

@araxara thanks for your input, it took me a while to finally decide to add some batteries and more solar to my house. Even though I'm a net producer with my current system I paid about $300 for electric last year. I have a second EV recently added to the household and the upcoming TEP rate...

    Tesla solar in Tuscon AZ

I'm waiting for my site inspection to add 5.1KW of solar and 2 powerwalls to my existing Enphase system. I was wondering if anybody who has TEP knows if there are any power plant type programs to participate in once I have the batteries added? I know there is a $1000 tax credit in AZ besides the...

Loud feedback noise with aftermarket amp.

Thanks for your thoughts on my situation! I feel everything is wired right and all the components are working properly because the base sounds really good. I was going to put a relay that could be ontrolled with a remote to keep the amp off when not in use but while waiting for the relay I found...

Loud feedback noise with aftermarket amp.

I installed an amp and sub tied into one set of the speaker wires going to the factory subwoofer and when the music is off and the car is not asleep I have had a loud feedback sound come out of the sub and set off the alarm on the car. I have also heard the sound when I first get in the car when...

Model 3 limiting charge current / not playing well with Emporia excess solar only charging

I have not tried that feature for some time but when I did it was terrible. I tried working with their support and did not get anywhere. I now have the programing I wrote running on UDI eisy device using the Emporia API and I think it works well.

    Nissan Leaf as a battery

Now only if Enphase would make a switch that goes behind the meter to disconnect from the grid.

Charging with "excess solar energy" (without Powerwall)

I do not have Mac but I have tried playing around with Python and I know the commands to get the information from the Envoy on the local network I just have no clue how to put it together. Thanks for the information I just think it is beyond my skill level.
  39. T

Charging with "excess solar energy" (without Powerwall)

I have not tried changing anything since the people from Emporia can not offer any suggestions. I know when you change things in the configuration you lose all the data and I would not want that to happen.
  40. T

Charging with "excess solar energy" (without Powerwall)

That looks good. I know production and consumption can be pulled from the Enphas Envoy on the local network it's just to bad I have no clue how to write a program for it.
  41. T

Charging with "excess solar energy" (without Powerwall)

Yes my setup is basically how you describe there. I have ct's on the solar that feeds the panel so it can see the solar being produced then the main ct's that are before the main breaker can see how much is being sent to the grid. I'm not a programmer but it does not make sense to me why this is...

Charging with "excess solar energy" (without Powerwall)

I'm very happy with Gen2 Vue energy monitor and the information it gives me. The charger works fine but without the excess solar part working I probably would have went with the Tesla. Maybe if I ever have an electric car that is not Tesla I will be happy I have the Emporia??

Charging with "excess solar energy" (without Powerwall)

They are unable to get a working algorithm for the charging from solar it just jumps all over the place. The last email exchange with them was the end of February this year stating they don’t have reports from other customers of issues utlizing excess solar. I first emailed them the beginning of...

Charging with "excess solar energy" (without Powerwall)

My experience with the Emporia solution has been less than stellar! I worked with their tech support for a while and they have been unable to make it work for me or explain what was wrong. I'm happy with both of their products except that the charge from excess solar feature does not work for me.

Whole house backup possible with one Powerwall?

Does anybody know if Tesla is the only one who makes a backup switch that goes in the meter socket? I have searched online and I found generator switches that are similar but not another brand other then Tesla that is setup for solar.

Faded Tiles on Front of Home

But why would the aluminum in the valley discolor the same as the roof tiles. I could be wrong but that is what makes sense to me.

It looks like residue from the roof above to me if you see how it flows into the valley of the roof.

Syncing SolarEdge Inverter Output with Tesla Charge Rate

I was not able to install the app either since I'm in the US but was able to log into the Web app. I have Enphase for my solar and I can not find a way to link to my solar. I did not try linking to my car since I can not connect to my solar but if you go to your Tesla app under account then...

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

Everybody's situation is going to be different! I have only had my solar for 2 months and the max I could set my charge to so far is 12 amps so it does not pull from the grid. I recently installed an Emporia Energy charger to go with their whole home energy monitoring device I have and it is...
