Poll - Who really need a model 2?

Assuming it is a hatch back my wife would buy one today if it were available. Not sure she can wait since her current car is 9 years old. She might take my Model 3 hand-me-down if I end up buying a Model Y Juniper. I think Tesla is too slow on the new car process and update process...

PowerShare for All Teslas & Integration - speculation

I recall Musk said a few years ago he didn't see any value in V2H, but I certainly did, But I also heard it would be coming in ~2025 timeframe. It was mentioned by Drew Baglino https://cleantechnica.com/2023/08/19/tesla-plans-to-adopt-bi-directional-charging-by-2025/ "... In response to a...

    long term parking

For what its worth, I parked my 2022 M3 RWD/LFP at the airport for 16 days and lost less than 2%. Sentry off, cabin heat protection off, I didn't check on the car while I was gone. I was surprised, I expected to lose 1% per day. Tesla would have to implement Sentry Mode into some sort of...

    Tesla in crisis?

The problem is that Tesla is not his company any longer after he took it public. His responsibility is to the shareholders. Now he may be a large share holder but could be removed by the board if there were enough votes to do so. He may firmly believe Robotaxi is the way to maximize...

    Tesla in crisis?

We don't really know what Tesla is going to be announce on 8 Aug. If they really have given up on the low cost car in favor of a Robotaxi, I think that would be a really bad move. Even if/when the technology is ready, Gov't regulations could kill it. Even local justification banning...

    FSD now $8,000. Who's buying?

Maybe there should be three FSD products... FSD Lifetime. For an individual owner for one car, fully transferable for the lifetime of the owner to future Tesla cars. For personal use only, no ridesharing functions. This might be worth $5K, maybe more, and make buyers really brand loyal. I...

    FSD now $8,000. Who's buying?

Actually I don't see EAP on the Tesla website or in the Tesla App anymore. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong place? Or maybe they bring it back after a price adjustment. There is a market for FSD, but the take rate at $15K was obviously not high enough so they dropped the price to $12K...

    FSD now $8,000. Who's buying?

I feel for folks who bought FSD at $15K, $12K, etc... But even at $8K it is way overpriced. The max I would pay is $3K assuming it actually works. I expect to keep this car no more than 3 years. Otherwise, I'd go the Subscription route and then maybe just when I do road trips. IF the FSD...

Post Installation / Pre-PTO System Intentionally Limited?

The panels were trying to balance their output with the house demand. It wasn't always exact, it may show 100 watts being exported for a short period. I'm not sure if that was real or just the limit of the gateway's ability to show what was really happening.

Post Installation / Pre-PTO System Intentionally Limited?

In my jurisdiction I had both a local city electrical inspection and the power company inspection. I attended the local inspection as did Tesla. The local inspector was not even an electrician and he looked at the install was 'impressed' and passed it. lol. But then the power company failed...

Solar panels cancelled due to concern over my roof's strength - experiences with this?

Depending on your jurisdiction, whoever installs the panels needs to pull a permit(s) and it will have to be inspected. I had three inspections on my installation including one from the fire department to make sure there is space for fire fighters to get on my roof. Anyway, if a Solar...

First impression of FSD and how TSLA should promote it

I'm still waiting for the demo so I've never tried FSD but I've seen videos of 12.3.xx and it looks impressive to me. Tesla has created something really innovative. BUT.... no way in #@!! am I going to pay $12K for it. I like to drive. Most of my driving is local and I wouldn't use FSD even...

OT: Cost to Install Single Zone Mini Split

Two lessons learned from my project. I had an existing pad where my current AC units are installed but it is right next to the grass and just a bit too close to the grass. So to reduce the risk of my landscapers hitting the outdoor unit and to lessen the grass clippings that will be sucked...

OT: Cost to Install Single Zone Mini Split

    Charge By Solar Not Showing

It looks like it won't charge the car until there is a minimum of 1.2kW of excess solar available. I have a Model 3 RWD with the LFP batteries so I can only charge to 32 amps max. Right now I have full Powerwalls and 11 kW of generation and I'm sending 7 kW to the car and exporting 2 kW to the...

OT: Cost to Install Single Zone Mini Split

@Mayer that is a relatively good price for an installed unit. It is a decent amount of work for a first time DIY'er but probably just a full day for a professional. Also pros tend to push Mitsubishi and other 'high end' mini-splits because they have agreements with the suppliers. The 10...

OT: Cost to Install Single Zone Mini Split

Last year the temperature in my garage at night was 100F. The inside of my garage doors was 145F! I had to do something. I always wanted to put in a mini-split but I figured I'd have to hire someone to do it. But then I watched a ton of DIY mini-split installation videos and researched the...

    New Highland UK - stalks

I like my Model 3, but don't love it. There are things that I really like, and things I really don't like. I was thinking my next car would be the refreshed Model Y. In the US, in a few years every EV manufacture will have cars compatible with the SC network. I hardly ever use SC's but it a...

Why Does My Model X get so many Flat Tires?

I've been driving over 40 years and I've never had a 'spontaneous' flat tire that wasn't the cause of a nail or screw. But this is not the only place a tire/wheel can leak. I noticed you don't put caps on the valve stems. The little Schrader valve in the valve stem could be a source of a...

Why Does My Model X get so many Flat Tires?

Discount Tire will sell you a Road Hazard Warranty for any tire even if you didn't buy it from them. I think you just have to get it within a certain period of time / milage since new.

I got a notice that somone 'liked' this post and I re-read my thoughts from over a year ago. And a few times I say 'ask me in a year' well now it has been more than a year and I thought I'd give my feedback now after living with the system for more than a year and also more than a year of...

Mine disappeared too. The next time I updated the app it came back and had me re-link the car and powerwalls. It did look like they made some improvements. I've used it a few times on sunny days to charge the car using CoS. I have it set (the default setting) to only CoS above 50% and go to...

I ordered that harness a year ago and installed it on my M3 RWD. I think I posted some pictures in one of the install threads. It was only $60. It did improve the sound quality but it was not a huge difference. It may be about a $60 difference. Lately I've been listening to a lot of...

Looks like my heat pump finally failed like many others: VCFRONT_a531 error

Heat pumps run at a higher pressure in heat mode than cooling mode. So whatever is failing when the pump is in heat mode is likely some seal that can't take the higher pressure. My Model 3 is this vintage. If it fails I hope it is under warranty. I don't use the heat mode much in Texas.

Three weeks vacation coming, should I leave my M3 plugged-in ?

I also have a Model 3 RWD with the LFP battery. I've had the car a little over 1 year and its my first EV so I'm still learning. I tend to over analyze things, but I think your strategy looks good to me. I normally charge my M3 RWD to 100% at the end of the week. I don't charge during the...

New Tesla service center replaces BMW Dealer facility

It opened today. There are hundreds of Tesla's there, $3K off any one in stock. This new service center is about 1 mile from my house. I used to take my BMW there for service. They are using the old Mini dealership part as well. So nice to have a service center so close.

Rolled forward on its own in the garage?

I agree. If not this then someone moved the car intentionally and didn't say anything. I can't understand how a car rolled 30 feet to a no parking zone on its own. Aliens? I wonder if the hospital no parking zone is down hill from the parking spot?

Rolled forward on its own in the garage?

I wonder if these instances happen just after a software install. Could it be possible that when the car reboots it might momentarily release the parking brake until it is back up and sees there is no driver and puts it in Park? Some software reboots I've notice I have to redo some setting, or...

    Toyota Ammonia Engine

Some of those older chargers may be CHAdeMO. I did a Google Maps search on Tesla Superchargers near my mother-in-law in the greater Tokyo area. 25 minutes away and only 4 stalls. Home charging though really makes more sense if you have a car in the Tokyo area. Most people don't have a need...

    Toyota Ammonia Engine

There are a lot of hybrid cars in Japan. And I've seen a few Tesla's last year when we were visiting. Not many. More likely to see a Ferrari or Lamborghini than a Tesla. And I've never seen a DC fast charger of any kind. I know they exist, I've just never seen one. A friend of mine would...

Trying to Justify the Cost of Enhanced Autopilot

If it is that important to your wife, why doesn't she buy it? Everyone has their own cost-benefit calculation wrt FSD and EAP. It doesn't seem to be worth it to her, so she asks you. For me, neither is worth anywhere near what they are asking. Once there is more competition in the market the...

True, but... since Tesla makes my solar system, the powerwall, the wall connector, and the car, and is known to be a company to innovate, I'm still shocked that there is not a true integration between these products. I've tried the CoS twice now. I think it has a benefit. One feature I think...

2023.32.7 OTA Update, how do you like it?

I'm also downloading. But I already got the camera improvements in the last 'bug fix' download. In that download I also noticed that they fixed an annoying problem with the 'Bong on Green Light' feature that was added a few updates ago. It used to bong when the thru lane light turned green...

Texas owners: Free nights or Net metering

I got a mailing from Direct Energy on this new Free Nights plan. There is some fine print on the backside. - Provisioned Smart Meter required. Of course, but in my area they removed the old smart meters over a year ago due to the 3G obsolesces. I had to pay nearly $300 for my current meter...

Texas owners: Free nights or Net metering

The Direct Energy plan gives free electricity from 9 pm to 9 am. I glanced through the Terms and Conditions, and I didn't see anything about excluding Solar customers. Thier longest plan is for 24 months. If they never see much billing from me would they not renew the plan? Or just outright...

Just test drove a Model Y

I just renewed my Model 3 registration that is due in Sept and they did not add this $200. Even though I did get a letter telling me it is due. Maybe it will catch up to me. BTW, the state tax on a gallon of gas in Texas is 20 cents. So $200 is 1,000 gallons of gas tax. My last ICE car...

    FSD V12 Elon Demo

I didn't care at all about the lack of production qualities of the video. I was interested in the content. I thought the new implementation of FSD was very impressive. The car was driving like a human, making decisions I would make. It did 'California Roll' through stop signs when there was...

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

I'm in that group. I've had the car a year now and have been happy with it. But I would not have been happy to keep my old car another year, it needed to go. Even after Highland comes out I would have waited a year for issues to be worked out with the updates. So I would have needed to wait...

40A Breakers Get Hot When Charging

When I charge over night I set the charge rate lower to pull less current, such that it will be charged just before I wake up the next day. In other words, while I could charge at 32 amps I normally charge around 26 amps. I still get to 100% before I drive off in the morning, but pull less...
