What’s the point if I have to tug the wheel every 10 seconds?

If Musk says 2 weeks he means several months. If he says next week, it’s usually been next week.

What’s the point if I have to tug the wheel every 10 seconds?

Well, the next version released will not have the nag. This weekend they will start the measured rollout for it.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Teslas cameras have a few problems that could be solved with the newer models. The side view cameras are too far back. They need to be near the front to see around corners without entering the crossing lane. A higher resolution will allow the cars to see farther ahead. Also seeing into the...

Make your robotaxi predictions for the 8/8 reveal

I wonder if Musk expects BYD to take over the EV market soon so he is putting his energies in his primary advantage which is FSD. The robo taxi would showcase Teslas one unique feature that is unlikely to be emulated. They could also be deployed anywhere, not just in pre-scanned locations, which...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Has anyone taken a ride on Waymo? I'm curious as to how the ride compares with FSD 12.3.3.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Oops. I meant as soon as the light turned green, not red. I don’t see an option to edit my post.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Today I was in a left lane and had a short distance to get into the right lane for a freeway entrance. There was a big truck in the right lane, blocking my move, and cars in front and back so I couldn’t change the lane. We stopped at a red light about a block from the fwy entrance, the truck on...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Gaffers tape is what you need. Look it up.
  9. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I’ve already done that. I used wide white gaffers tape. Didn’t help much with the old parking system and my car has uss sensors,so I can’t try the new system yet.
  10. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I’m starting to see some reports of FSD from the media and others that have never tried it before. They all focus on the mistakes the system made like nearly stopping for no reason and running a red light. Those of us who experienced V11 are delighted at the improvement but to others the only...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I expect that you disengaged when it actually would have been fine if you hadn’t. I did that a lot at first when I got V12, upgraded from V11. I’ve gradually learned I can trust it more than I thought. Often if it seems too slow, I will then notice a pedestrian or other situation it was waiting...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

For me too. I keep getting situations where i expect to jump in but just before i do, the car does exactly what i was prepared to do. There are still missing pieces like emergency vehicle response and honoring no right on red but i expect those kind of things to be added in time.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I'll bet Tesla expects Tesla accidents to notably decrease during the trial FSD period. Once they decrease to a certain point they can begin to consider eye and hands off driving. Once true, unmonitored self driving is implemented, sales could increase a lot.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

12.3 ALMOST got the wife approval, but not quite. I always turn off a highway into our neighborhood just before arriving home. It's often been a problem with earlier versions. The car would be too fast, too slow, angled wrong, waffle back and forth etc. Now with 12.3 the car can make the turn...
  15. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

It does speed up a little but still adjusts for curves and can go back to the slow speed.
  16. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

There's a new stop sign near me and the V12.3 went right through it then stopped after it had passed. This probably indicates that it relies on mapped stop signs more than the video visuals.
  17. K

I don't expect any automated driving system to actually reach full level 5.

Tesla will have to get millions of videos from each country they want to introduce FSD to. The system will have to be retrained with all the various road regulations, signage and driving conditions. If lots of teslas drive on dirt roads in Oz, it will probably be trained with that data so, in...

Does anyone actually have FSD v12 yet?

It slowed for the yellow then sped up when it turned red. I let it go through because there were no cars moving into the intersection. I wanted to see if it would still stop but a little too late but nope. It went right on through. V11 occasionally did this too at this one particular light...
  19. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

V12.3 is damned impressive! It will speed up or slow down appropriately to make a lane change. It will glide over several lanes if it needs to get to a turning lane quickly. It will smoothly drive around stopped delivery vans then move right back into the lane. It even started to cross a 4 way...

I don't expect any automated driving system to actually reach full level 5.

I agree. The rating system was a start at trying to organize thoughts about autonomous driving but things are not necessarily progressing that way. Since it's a new, unfinished technology, it will follow it's own path and not be constrained by this rating system.
  21. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I have a suspicion that the Assertive and Chill modes were reversed by mistake. The car seems to drive faster in Chill mode than in Assertive. I've been driving in Assertive and felt the car was often going too slow. Chill mode seems to fix that.
  22. K

I don't expect any automated driving system to actually reach full level 5.

It seems to me that the defined 5 levels don't fit FSD very well. FSD is essentially performing at L5 levels because there are no limitations to where or when it drives and it handles most situations with no human intervention. But since it is unfinished software there are conditions that it...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

What? My car is Driverless all the time. Minnie Driver has never been in my car.
  24. K

I don't expect any automated driving system to actually reach full level 5.

What about sitting in In-n-Out lines that snake around the block? That’s something that any driver needs to do if you live in California. Maybe Musk will combine Neurolink with FSD and it really WILL read your mind. :)
  25. K

I don't expect any automated driving system to actually reach full level 5.

Level 5 means you can use automated driving everywhere for everything. I posit that full level 5 automation will never be achieved because I had a situation years ago that I doubt any automation could manage. My 12 year old daughter was angry because of an argument, late at night, and decided...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

V12.2.1 did a pretty good job at this. V12.3 does a better job. It feels like something I can begin to trust now.
  27. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I feel that, after trying V12.3, that FSD really will reach the goal of a level 4 system. There are still specific features it needs and it will take some time to get them all but it does seem like this is the start of a real self driving system. Once it reaches that goal it will be completely...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

12.3 fixes several slow downs I’ve always had before. It also dodged a small tree branch that was lying in the street. It parked in a parking spot when it reached its destination, but crookedly. Needs a bit more training in how to park within the lines.
  29. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

HW3 here. Yes. That might make a difference.
  30. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I just got 12.3 and the car still tried to turn right on a red arrow. There were also several 'no right on red' signs. So that's still an area that needs work. That was the only intervention though. Everything eles was greeat.

Does anyone actually have FSD v12 yet?

Every version since v10.2 has occasionally run this particular light. I suspect it has to do with the refresh rate. If the led light rate syncs with the camera at the wrong time it might be dark on each frame. The car saw the yellow light clearly so it should know a red light is next whether it...
  32. K

Does anyone actually have FSD v12 yet?

The biggest problem is that this has never been done before so no one really knows what it takes. It shouldn’t be too surprising that the approach changes, several times, midstream. It seems that the AI end 2 end version is the most promising so far but whether it will result in a true self...
  33. K

Does anyone actually have FSD v12 yet?

I have it and it’s much better than v11. Still needs occasional interventions but fewer. This morning it ran a red light. That kind of thing is rare though. I felt V11 was maybe 95% there. I’d put v12 at 98%.
  34. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I find I’m gradually allowing it to do things I had to do myself in V11. I grit my teeth and let it go and most of the time it’s been handling the situations properly. My main intervention is to tap the accelerator occasionally to encourage it to go a little quicker.
  35. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Well, parking has been demonstrated before to be the one place the car can run into things in 12.2.1. I hope that's what's being addressed in the next version.
  36. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I've seen many cases of FSD just missing hitting something by inches. People always react as if this was dangerous but the fact is -- the car did NOT HIT anything. Granted that the tolerances it sometimes accepts are uncomfortable for humans and that needs to be adjusted but it doesn't make the...
  37. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

The car shouldn't need memory to anticipate an unseen object's trajectory because that trajectory could change while hidden. It should always wait until it can see enough to assess the current situation, not a previously anticipated one. I found that even when it can see clearly, several times...
  38. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Look like another training issue. They need to find hundreds of cases where something blocks the view before a turn so it learns to wait and assess the situation before proceeding.
  39. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

My son sits there when he drives with us and he dislikes FSD even more than my wife. They both tolerate it, though.
  40. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Absolutely. I tell my wife that even if FSD occasionally does startling or annoying things, it is still a better driver than I am. I'm sure that's the truth and I think she, reluctantly, agrees.
  41. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I can say definitively that it does not pass the wife test yet. My poor wife has to suffer FSD everytime we go anywhere and invariably the car does at least one thing that makes her jump or yell. From my viewpoint as the driver they aren't much of a problem, I know I can grab back control...
  42. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I would expect the planned path to be part of the output the neural net creates. In v12 ive noticed different behavior of the path compared to V11.
  43. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

It occurred to me that parking lot behavior was not specifically trained. It emerged from many videos where the driver parked. But since it wasn’t deliberate there might not have been enough examples to cover all situations. Now that we’ve had a parking lot incident they have to train in all...
  44. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

My guess as to why it’s taking so long to release a fix for the FSD accident (based on my rudimentary layman’s knowledge.) First they have to look at the data and logs and run some simulations to determine why the computer made the error. Then they have to find hundreds or thousands of similar...
  45. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

No. It was just a short term glitch in my particular car. I drove a few miles manually, parked for about half an hour and FSD was back when I started up again.
  46. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Ah! After parking for an hour or so, FSD is suddenly back. The mysteries of Tesla will never end. And to answer your question, I had a driving score of 100 so I've been using FSD since the release of 10.2. Perhaps that and the fact I've never had a strike, along with living in California...
  47. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Never had a strike. I was connected to wifi last night. No downgrade button. The ‘single pull-double pull Autopilot activation buttons are grayed out. I’ve rebooted the car but no change.
  48. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

My v12 FSD is disabled this morning. The button is gtayed out. Anyone else experiencing this?
  49. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I rest my hand on my leg and lightly hold the steering wheel between my thumb and forefinger. I just give it enough pressure to feel it sliding between my fingers. That's enough tension to keep it happy and in 2 1/2 years I've never had a strike. (Won't work with the yoke, though. )
