    Going from 2024.3.25 to 2024.14.x

Anyone know if there is a way for OG safety score testers to “opt out” of FSD beta testing? I’ve pretty much given up on FSD and would rather be on the latest UI update stream than the latest FSD stream, and like most others I’m still stuck on 3.25…

    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

Agreed wholeheartedly. And when a little bit of fog hits and cruise control refuses to maintain your set speed, because it thinks it can't see well enough. It sends me up the wall every time TACC tries to nanny me like that, when FSD continuously reminds me that I'm supposed to be the one...

    Tesla Owners in Alberta

There should be nothing unique about tires and balancing - any tire shop should be able to do it. The only thing you may want to verify with them is they have the proper lifting pucks for Teslas. I think we are common enough now, even here in oil country, that any name brand / reputable shop...

FSD Owners - Do any of you prefer leaving it off?

I've finally given up and just gone back to autosteer. For me it was the unpredictable lane changes - even with "minimal lane changes" checked, it would try to change into left turn lanes when it needs to go straight, or just generally ping-pong, telling me it was "following route." Very...

Has anyone heard of a Tesla being rear ended because of phantom braking?

The argument about coming to a complete stop vs aggressively slowing down is kinda irrelevant, as I would venture to say everyone overrides the braking event with the accelerator before it gets to that point anyway. So whether it would have come to a complete stop or not, most don't even find...

How worried about vandalism are you?

Maybe it's an Alberta thing. I went through a broker; they couldn't find anyone who wouldn't require either a ridiculous deductible or high rates to compensate for a lower deductible.

How worried about vandalism are you?

In Edmonton proper, maybe not so bad. In the rural areas surrounding Edmonton? Sentry and dashcam on, all the time. In 1.5yrs I've had quite a few incidents, from people swerving at me to spinning their rear wheels at stoplights to kick rocks into my windshield. Also had a hit and run that I...

    Major Phantom Braking Issues

Yup, TACC only. I do have FSDb but it was 100% not engaged. It didn’t try to take the turn, it just slammed on the brakes at the turn point.

Has anyone heard of a Tesla being rear ended because of phantom braking?

Crossposted: Just got the 11.4.2 FSDb update. I am cautiously optimistic, in my limited driving today I did not get phantom braking in the usual spots. Up to now, to almost 100% certainty, I would get it in certain spots (overhead wires were a big trigger). Made it the whole way today with no...

Has anyone heard of a Tesla being rear ended because of phantom braking?

Was it the stretch between Medicine Hat and Calgary? That stretch is brutal, tons of FSD and TACC issues. I think the mapping is messed up or something, making the usual problems even worse.
  14. sandman1330

Has Basic Autopilot improved (and phantom braking decreased) since radar was removed? (About to buy!)

IIRC, if you are on navigate on autopilot (you'll have a single "tentacle" showing your car's path in your visualization), you can adjust more than +10. This is for what they call "restricted access highways" only, basically freeways where there are no intersections, just interchanges /...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Yup. I drive east in the morning on the way to work, it constantly slows down and refuses to drive the set speed. Hasn’t disengaged yet, just won’t drive the set speed so I end up having to disengage. Might be partly because it always misses the speed limit sign where it transitions to rural...

    FSD Beta v11.x

What do you mean? I'm not going to be able to use my car as a robotaxi by the end of the year? But I overextended my budget to get this car banking on using it as a robotaxi.... What am I going to do now?!?!?!?!?
  18. sandman1330

    FSD Beta v11.x

I prefer to disengage so I can actually utilize the voice feedback tool to report the issue. It won't get fixed if it isn't reported. I do use the pedal quite liberally as well. However, I've noticed from time to time, if you override with even just a gentle push of the pedal, the thing will...

Has Basic Autopilot improved (and phantom braking decreased) since radar was removed? (About to buy!)

Sounds like you are not on FSD Beta, as you can't adjust the speed higher than +10 of the (often incorrectly) assessed speed limit? IIRC (as I've been on beta for the last year so my options are different), you can disable that behaviour in the TACC settings. Something along the lines of...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Yeah I’ll never buy FSD again, like you if I even stay with Tesla. With the exception of steam (I received just late enough to get steam but not the new lights), my journey has been a mirror of yours, disappointment on undelivered features for the refresh S. Though I do still love my S, I do...

FSD 11.3.6 50+ minute commute with only 1 disengagement

Thanks for sharing the video. Didn’t look like a particularly challenging drive though. I admit I just skimmed the video but I didn’t see any situations where FSD had to actually make a decision - no left turns, no yield or stop signs, no traffic circles. Sure it works great on the freeway...
  23. sandman1330

    FSD Beta v11.x

I also drive the refreshed S.... Perhaps you are noticing a trend? I think the yoke helps on the highway with nags (more comfortable to maintain torque), but less so in city...
  24. sandman1330

    FSD Beta v11.x

Good point as I wasn't clear, no I don't have to disengage at straight through intersections. Sometimes I do, or have to intervene with the pedal to smooth out the deceleration, this is more an issue on rural roads with stop signs. Effectively I have to disengage at almost every decision point...

    FSD Beta v11.x

I think what you refer to as learning curve, I think of as tolerance. I think we're talking about the same thing with different labelling. That tolerance has two facets: my tolerance to let FSD do its thing, and the tolerance of others around me to do the same. I love when I get to drive on...

    FSD Beta v11.x

That's a good post and you are correct. In my case though, when I try and let it do it's thing, it induces some pretty significant responses from drivers around me. I'm not sure many realize how frustrated they are making the drivers around them when they let FSDb try and drive. I mean...
  27. sandman1330

    FSD Beta v11.x

Precisely. This is the jist of what my response was going to be. How do we use it better? I'm asking because I genuinely want to use it. But how do I stop it from swerving wildly in lane trying to decide whether to hug the right or stay left in a right turn, slamming on the brakes 50m before...
  28. sandman1330

    FSD Beta v11.x

Yeeeeah..... One day after multiple, multiple disengagements, I actually responded with "Because FSD f***ing sucks." I was that frustrated. Today I disengaged so many times it actually stopped even giving me the voice prompt... I wonder if I filled up the buffer so there's no more room for...

    Major Phantom Braking Issues

Yep, that's fair. So I guess from Tesla's perspective, it's too much to ask :) They do need to start being careful though. It's OT for this thread, but their massive advantage in technology and charging infrastructure is quickly dwindling. In 5 more years, I think public charging will be on par...

Phantom Braking cause on Dash Display

I've nailed down one of mine - it's super weird. Overhead power lines. Every single time I drive under power lines crossing the highway above me, it slows 10km/h. Like clockwork. I've yet to figure out the other, brake slamming events. They're less predictable (and thankfully less frequent).
  31. sandman1330

    Major Phantom Braking Issues

But it isn't. I am yet to be convinced that TACC is safer. I am certain it is less comfortable / useable than radar enabled adaptive cruise or even basic cruise. My old VW had radar controlled adaptive cruise, and automatic emergency braking. It did everything TACC says it should do safety wise...
  32. sandman1330

    Major Phantom Braking Issues

Automobiles are vastly superior in (almost) every way. Electric cars are vastly superior to ICE cars in (almost) every way too. FSD / TACC isn't - at least not yet. I don't even buy that it's marginally safer than regular cruise, let along vastly. It just isn't there yet. Funny you use that...

    Major Phantom Braking Issues

NHTSA only expects the car to react to emergency vehicles when on autopilot... If they required it on normal cruise control it would have to apply to all manufacturers.
  34. sandman1330

    Major Phantom Braking Issues

Again though, where are the stats that say normal cruise control has been a deathtrap for the last 40yrs? It's not broken.... why do we need to fix it?

Is Tesla software limiting the launch and 0-60 times of the refreshed non plaid model s/x ?

Awesome info! Great job digging up the gearing ratios. I'm happy to have my theory debunked on this one, it means the potential for an unlock exists (however unlikely)!
  36. sandman1330

    Major Phantom Braking Issues

I'm OK with that. Because I pay attention when I'm driving. I've managed to drive over 20yrs without getting in an accident or driving over a cliff, much of that time on dumb cruise control. I think I can handle it. I'd like to see the statistics over the last 40 or so years that cars have come...

    THOUGHTS ON FSD

Might be one case where the yoke is superior to a wheel then! The shape just makes it easy to keep torque on without really even having to think about it.
  38. sandman1330

Is Tesla software limiting the launch and 0-60 times of the refreshed non plaid model s/x ?

That is pretty much the crux of it, isn't it? Can't argue with you there. I'd like the extra oomph off the line, but where I live the only things that try to run me from a stoplight are jacked up F150s and Cummins Diesels. No issues beating those guys off the line :D
  39. sandman1330

    THOUGHTS ON FSD

I understand that what some members may have issues with is not going to be the same as others - like PB, just because some don't get it doesn't mean it isn't a problem. But, I almost never, ever even get the first nag. It might be the yoke - I keep one hand resting on my leg, with the fingers...

Is Tesla software limiting the launch and 0-60 times of the refreshed non plaid model s/x ?

I'm stretching my knowledge a bit here, so feel free to refute my theory, but here goes: Horsepower is based on the relationship between torque and RPM. If you look at the graph shared a few posts above, you see that even the Plaid is not producing peak HP until the motor RPM starts to ramp up...
  41. sandman1330

Is Tesla software limiting the launch and 0-60 times of the refreshed non plaid model s/x ?

This is one of the factors that has me strongly suspecting it's a gearing issue. Faster off the line, but much slower top end, with the same amount of power...

    Autopilot Improvements

Before I had FSDb, this was a huge pain for me. My Tesla misses most speed signs in my area, so while I'd be on a 100km/h posted highway, the car still thinks the limit is 50 or 70. I therefore wasn't able to use autosteer at all. FSDb still misses the speed signs but at least now I can...

You know it goes to 11 right? :D
  44. sandman1330

Is Tesla software limiting the launch and 0-60 times of the refreshed non plaid model s/x ?

More and more I'm thinking it's a gearing issue... The Plaid has the carbon sleeved motors that can run at higher RPM, so may be geared lower, at least in the rear drive unit (the front drive unit is the same in both cars AFAIK, but nothing says they both need to have the same gearing ratios as...

The most unhappy place on Earth?

I love my Model S. I HATE FSD. Worst scam I've ever bought into. $10K down the toilet. And I hate how these cars are built around FSD (cruise control is dependent on FSD, and subject to many problems as a result. Just one example.) Most of my dissatisfaction is voiced in the Autopilot forums :D

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

    Major Phantom Braking Issues

I discovered something new today. TACC will slam on the brakes if you are approaching a turn in the nav system but don't slow down to take that turn. And it waits till the last minute, so it's a HARD slam on the brakes, right down to 0. This morning, I forgot something and had to turn around...
  48. sandman1330

Has Basic Autopilot improved (and phantom braking decreased) since radar was removed? (About to buy!)

This is true. FSD actually handles gridlock, or even well flowing stop and go traffic, very well.
  49. sandman1330

    Major Phantom Braking Issues

I have a more pessimistic view. They won’t do it because it will mean admitting they can’t even do adaptive cruise control right with vision only, let alone ever getting to level 4/5/robotaxi… There’s nothing safe about slamming the brakes on a highway for no reason either 🤣

    Autopark returned?

Thx, I think I figured it out. You need to hold in the Center of the swipe bar where it says auto park available, then another blue box shows up above that you have to tap. A bit janky. Auto park itself did ok though, was fairly fast actually.
