Was it the stretch between Medicine Hat and Calgary? That stretch is brutal, tons of FSD and TACC issues. I think the mapping is messed up or something, making the usual problems even worse.

Good point as I wasn't clear, no I don't have to disengage at straight through intersections. Sometimes I do, or have to intervene with the pedal to smooth out the deceleration, this is more an issue on rural roads with stop signs. Effectively I have to disengage at almost every decision point...

I've nailed down one of mine - it's super weird. Overhead power lines. Every single time I drive under power lines crossing the highway above me, it slows 10km/h. Like clockwork. I've yet to figure out the other, brake slamming events. They're less predictable (and thankfully less frequent).

But it isn't. I am yet to be convinced that TACC is safer. I am certain it is less comfortable / useable than radar enabled adaptive cruise or even basic cruise. My old VW had radar controlled adaptive cruise, and automatic emergency braking. It did everything TACC says it should do safety wise...

Automobiles are vastly superior in (almost) every way. Electric cars are vastly superior to ICE cars in (almost) every way too. FSD / TACC isn't - at least not yet. I don't even buy that it's marginally safer than regular cruise, let along vastly. It just isn't there yet. Funny you use that...

NHTSA only expects the car to react to emergency vehicles when on autopilot... If they required it on normal cruise control it would have to apply to all manufacturers.

Again though, where are the stats that say normal cruise control has been a deathtrap for the last 40yrs? It's not broken.... why do we need to fix it?

Might be one case where the yoke is superior to a wheel then! The shape just makes it easy to keep torque on without really even having to think about it.

That is pretty much the crux of it, isn't it? Can't argue with you there. I'd like the extra oomph off the line, but where I live the only things that try to run me from a stoplight are jacked up F150s and Cummins Diesels. No issues beating those guys off the line :D

I love my Model S. I HATE FSD. Worst scam I've ever bought into. $10K down the toilet. And I hate how these cars are built around FSD (cruise control is dependent on FSD, and subject to many problems as a result. Just one example.) Most of my dissatisfaction is voiced in the Autopilot forums :D

I discovered something new today. TACC will slam on the brakes if you are approaching a turn in the nav system but don't slow down to take that turn. And it waits till the last minute, so it's a HARD slam on the brakes, right down to 0. This morning, I forgot something and had to turn around...

This is true. FSD actually handles gridlock, or even well flowing stop and go traffic, very well.

I have a more pessimistic view. They won’t do it because it will mean admitting they can’t even do adaptive cruise control right with vision only, let alone ever getting to level 4/5/robotaxi… There’s nothing safe about slamming the brakes on a highway for no reason either 🤣

Thx, I think I figured it out. You need to hold in the Center of the swipe bar where it says auto park available, then another blue box shows up above that you have to tap. A bit janky. Auto park itself did ok though, was fairly fast actually.
