Roof Rack - Is it Really a Risk?

Page 15 of the instructions at https://www.tesla.com/sites/default/files/downloads/model-3-roof-rack-owners-manual-en-us.pdf says to remove the rack before going through an automated car wash. This is the Model 3 roof rack instructions, but the Model Y roof rack is similar.

Roof Rack - Is it Really a Risk?

The Tesla OEM rack (which is made by a Yakima-associated company, but is not the same as any Yakima aftermarket rack, although the locks and keys are compatible with those for Yakima aftermarket racks) connects to metal receivers or mount points under the roof glass (which are probably difficult...

All US Cars capable of FSD will be enabled for one month trial this week

I have it set to 7, which seems closer than 2 seconds.

All US Cars capable of FSD will be enabled for one month trial this week

In theory, an automated driver can be programmed to know, based on GPS location, what traffic laws regarding right turn on red, default speed limits, etc. apply to that area.

All US Cars capable of FSD will be enabled for one month trial this week

Even with the following distance set to the maximum, TACC/AP follows too closely. I observed the same with the FSDS trial with that same setting and FSDS set to chill.

    Turning signal button "stuck"

Four or more unsuccessful attempts to fix the same problem qualifies the vehicle for the California lemon law (since you list your location as Los Angeles). https://www.dca.ca.gov/acp/pdf_files/lemonlaw_qa.pdf

All US Cars capable of FSD will be enabled for one month trial this week

Based on what I saw of the one month trial of FSDS, the "good" drivers who trained the system are not that good. FSDS follows far too closely (even in chill mode) to be able to stop for an unmasked stopped vehicle or other object and (less than 20 seconds after I activated it for the first time...

Would a Performance with 18" aero wheels (e.g. FastEV EV01+) and LRR tires be like a LR in economy and range?

Under inflation tends to result in excess wear on the outside edges of the tyres. It also results in higher energy consumption while driving.

All US Cars capable of FSD will be enabled for one month trial this week

Regarding no right turn on red... In some states like California, a red right arrow means no right turn on red (although many drivers apparently do not know that). In some other states, a red right arrow does not prohibit right turn on red after stopping. Did FSDS correctly interpret red...

Vendor Tesla Model 3 Tires – Choosing the Right Tires for Your Needs

Yes, there may be different versions of the same model and size of tire. So if you want a specific version, you have to shop carefully. The Michelin Primacy MXM4 comes in at least two versions of size 235/45/18. One is the Tesla version, and another is the Honda version.

USA MY RWD has soft limited LR battery!

Did they ever advertise specific charging rates? Seems that as long as a recharge from 10-60% takes 15-20 minutes or less, there may not be too much complaining.
  15. 3

The few times Tesla has addressed battery degradation, they have simply lied and dismissed it.

The miles at the top of the screen are a measure of remaining battery capacity. That number can be useful for tracking capacity loss over time. Note that this is different from most other EVs where the miles number adjusts based on recent economy. On Tesla cars, this "guess-o-meter" miles is...

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

Signaling to exit a roundabout seems to be the usual example given here, although if the roundabout is large enough radius, your left hand may be still where it normally is when driving straight. Non-roundabout examples would be where the road is curvy, and you want to signal for an upcoming...

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

Highland: position side mirrors further out to cover blindspot

    Link ABRP to Tesla map

For longer distance trips, ABRP defaults to fastest trip which can give a different set of stops and charge levels (typically something like 10% to 50-60% to stay in the fastest charging range) than the Tesla trip planner which favors fewer stops to charge to higher state of charge (but charging...

Stalk or no stalk argument [not] settled

Redesigning the part also means a different part to keep track of for inventory and supply chain purposes. It can also mean that reallocating existing supply from a slower selling model to a faster selling model is more difficult.

Highland: position side mirrors further out to cover blindspot

Probably means adjusted outward as far as possible. Seems like the problem of not being able to put the mirrors outward enough would be worse for longer legged drivers who have the driver's seat further back.

    NEW Model 3 Highland review!

Not necessarily. However, many changes are not announced. Also, model year boundaries are flexible. When changes in regulated characteristics are made, they are often model year aligned to reduce certification costs. The model year switchover may be moved to what is convenient within the...

Some new data from research on Tesla model 3 cells

Suppose the driver uses 25% of the charge in a day. Starting at 100%, the car will then end the day at 75%. But if starting at 80%, it will end the day at 55%. Of course, starting at 55-60% for an NMC battery and ending the day at 30-35% is better for battery longevity, but car companies may...

Tire Rotation [recommendations on where to get tires rotated?]

https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/model3/en_us/GUID-E95DAAD9-646E-4249-9930-B109ED7B1D91.html says to rotate the tires every 6,250 miles.

18" Wheels + EV Tires gained ~18% range

Of course, the definition of "best" varies... and no tire is the best at every characteristic, including performance (handling, braking, dry, wet, snow, ice), comfort (ride, noise), efficiency (rolling resistance), and tread life. One problem that those buying tires face is that not every tire...

Tesla wants to replace my Model Y Standard Range battery pack with an LFP pack

    FSD free trial is over

4 car lengths is too close at 60mph to avoid a crash if the vehicle ahead changes lanes to unmask stopped traffic. I normally keep larger following distances and try to avoid being in crowds on the road, in order to allow the most reaction time and most options to avoid or escape from a...

    FSD free trial is over

You would want at least level 4 in this case, since a level 3 system can ask for a human driver at any time when it sees an upcoming situation beyond its ability. While this is an advance over level 2, which may not realize it is driving beyond its ability and thus needs constant supervision...

Master Thread: Definitive 14-50 NEMA Outlet Guide

Probably not, though in earlier times, EV drivers may have wanted to keep more charging options open due the smaller coverage of dedicated publicly accessible charging stations. RV campgrounds were probably the most common high power AC charging outlets available for EV road trippers.

How do I lift/jack my LFP Model 3?

Something can be useful and convenient without being absolutely necessary. Tesla wants to replace my Model Y Standard Range battery pack with an LFP pack

Charging the battery to 80% with low enough usage to be able to use 120V 15A charging suggests that the battery spent most of its time in the higher degradation range above 55% for an NCA battery. But that is not really a factor in "random" failures of a cell or few, or the BMS, or some other...

    Model 2

Cost to build probably does not shrink by that much with a smaller car (of around the Chevrolet Bolt or Hyundai Kona size). Less material costs a bit less, but the car still needs stuff like lighting, seats, doors, windows, etc. that need to be put together. If they can make the car more...

Do I have to buy and carry extra charger in the car for long trips?

NEMA 6-50 never away from home (but all the time at home). TT-30 used a few times on a road trip because I knew I would be at a campground with TT-30 (and a few NEMA 14-50 that tend to fill up quickly, so cannot be counted on). Note that I do not have all of the adapters and plugs that I...
