The quest for wider wheels and tires, 295, 305 and beyond...

Not as a part of regular roadside inspections, but if you have an accident a savvy insurance assessor might measure it as a way to deny the claim.

Wheel Steering Tie Rod Fell Off on the Racetrack

I'll start keeping an eye on mine now too. I might use a pry bar when I inspect to see if there's any play I can induce with minimal force. I'm not sure how else to check for impending failure. Any better ideas?

The quest for wider wheels and tires, 295, 305 and beyond...

BTW, they key message I want everyone to take from this is to take a straight edge and a ruler with you when you go wheel shopping! Keep it wide ;)

The quest for wider wheels and tires, 295, 305 and beyond...

In Australia modifications are restricted depending on the class of vehicle. For a 'regular' vehicle the handbook (the National Code of Practice for modification - NCOP) says that you can go up to 1.3x the widest tyre fitted from the factory so I'm good for 305s. It also says you cannot...

The quest for wider wheels and tires, 295, 305 and beyond...

In this post I'll share findings on what dimensions will clear the front uprights. As we all know you have to pay to play. I wanted to play so I decided to make good on my previous post that analysed all findings so far in this thread. There are millimetre variations in wheels between...

MASTER THREAD: Comprehensive Road-Course Modification Guide — Optimizing the 3 for the track

MPP uses the KW adjustable top seat so you can adjust them if you take the wheel off. They won't play nicely with the UP arms as you'll have two adjusters and not enough room for spring travel. If you're dead set on running the UP arms, perhaps the best option for mix-and-match would be using...

MASTER THREAD: Comprehensive Road-Course Modification Guide — Optimizing the 3 for the track

I made myself up a little run sheet and a tool kit that only contained what I needed, as well as a little table of how many turns to correct the toe front and rear. It takes me about 45 minutes to change from one setting to another including changing wheels, so I second your '90 minutes a month'...

MASTER THREAD: Comprehensive Road-Course Modification Guide — Optimizing the 3 for the track

I agree about the suspension, I'm running MPP SS springs and have a set of 18" wheels with Michelin Primacy tyres for daily use. I find the comfort-focused tyres cancel out the change from sports to supersports springs more or less, and the firmer damper settings makes up for the reduced feel in...

Rear knuckle bushing any issue with it?

A dozen track days was enough for me to wear out those bushing, I'm already on my second set of rear knuckles as no-one made replacement bushings at the time. I'll give these a much closer look next time they wear out.

Tesla Model 3 Coilover Installation (Does this seem reasonable?)

I have a good set of home tools (including old-fashioned spring compressors) and a regular garage with limited space. I managed to do the whole thing myself in four hours, and the wheel alignment cost me AU$85 afterwards. Maybe they haven't worked on a Tesla and are being super nervous with...

The quest for wider wheels and tires, 295, 305 and beyond...

I've just trawled through this thread start to finish for the umpteenth time and added a bunch of different confirmed(ish) fitments into a disorganised notepad document. I was in a bit of a scattered state of mind trying to put different brake, wheel, spacer and subjective fit outcomes so please...

Lower control arm bolts backed out.

In the context of this thread the biggest benefit of the MPP bearings is that they add a crush tube. The factory bolt can be torqued correctly but sometimes still wiggle loose. Where they bolt in doesn't have a crush tube to ensure all of the torque is applied from bolt to nut; some of the...

    Track Pads

I'm running Pagid RSL1 and they're pretty tame after the first track day (squeal like hell until the first time you get them proper hot). Not silent but good manners cold and only little squeaks at low speed and light application. Good enough for me anyway.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I take mine to the track, so I'm much more interested in improving performance above 60MPH. If the 0-60 time was unchanged but the 60-120 range was improved markedly I'd be quite interested. Similarly, if the battery pack was changed to retain more performance at low SoC I'd be interested too...

Whats the smallest diameter for Wheels for Model 3P?

Unless you have specific goals or use cases in mind (if so, let us know) I think the sensible options are 18"x8.5" with 235/45R18 with close to factory offset for comfort and efficiency (not all 18s will clear the rear brakes, but plenty of options do). If you want wider for general street you...

For better initial turn in you want the FLCA bearings. The most noticeable impact of the inserts in stability under heavy braking.

Tire Recommendations for 19x9.5 wheels street and track no commute

This is what I do; MPP FUCAs, MPP rear camber and toe arms. I can run factory camber on 19"x10" wheels with 275/35R19 tyres, then at the track change to approx 3.6 degrees front and 2.5 degrees rear in just under an hour. Same again to undo the changes at the end of the day. I had both settings...

Tire Recommendations for 19x9.5 wheels street and track no commute

Sorry if I caused offense. The above is only my own experience in a Model 3, is what I wish I had done in retrospect, and is in the context of buying wider wheels/tyres for track use. For quantification, I saw significant outer wear on Pilot Sport 4 tyres after two track days. My local track and...

Tire Recommendations for 19x9.5 wheels street and track no commute

Going wider without adding camber means you're going to scrub the outside of the tyre down to the cords before you hit the wear markers in the middle. I'm not saying you shouldn't head to the track (because it's great fun!). Just consider a tyre that you don't mind chewing through quickly. If...

MASTER THREAD: Comprehensive Road-Course Modification Guide — Optimizing the 3 for the track

I haven't needed the cooler yet but have thought about how I'd implement it. The top of my list was a thermostat with a three-way switch to allow me to force the fan off, allow thermostat activation, or force the fan on. I figured that'd give me access to all options and avoid me redoing a bunch...

model 3 on track - the need for a good seat (take the poll)

As per @stevehifi above, good feedback. I'm in a RHD country with strict safety rules so my only practical option is a Recaro Sportster with the airbag correctly connected (plus an engineering mod plate to approve it). I'm hoping that their teased reclining kit will incorporate the feedback...

Track Pads for MPP Page Mill 365mm

Let me stress MPP's advice on their web page about them being streetable AFTER they're bedded in correctly. The squeal terribly until that process is followed, but are quite well-mannered afterwards. I had them on the 365mm Page Mill rotors and they felt about the same after five laps as they...

    Lowering the Tesla Model 3

At the start I was looking for the same thing as you are now. The magic sauce is the MPP front lower control arm (FLCA) bearings. The comfort adjustables get the up and down sorted, but they have this vague turn-in until the voids in the FLCA bushings compress fully. It's quite evident in even...

    Lowering the Tesla Model 3

I went straight to MPP Comfort Adjustables on my SR+. Later decided to do track days and am now running the MPP Sports suspension. The comforts were much more comfortable than stock despite feeling better, and the sports are way more controlled and comfort is at worst comparable to stock...

    Bumpy ride from headrest

That's the complaint; a limited number of us M3 owners have the height and posture for the headrest to interfere we naturally want to keep our heads. I'm not pushing my head against it; it's in the way my head. If I bend it back half an inch I'll be able to drive comfortably and it will still be...

    Bumpy ride from headrest

I turn it backwards when I'm at the track because it's the perfect amount of space for my helmet. Still need to look into bending for daily driving though; my posture is pretty upright so the headrest is too far forward for me too.

    M3 Remote Reservoir Shocks

Based on a quick eyeball check, the front will run out of travel when the front upper control arm hits the top of the wheel arch, and the rear might have a little more before the spring is fully compressed. And per your comment, I'm not knowledgeable enough to consider any additional wear or...

model 3 on track - the need for a good seat (take the poll)

So here in Oz I think I can get away with fixed back, but must retain a side airbag if I'm to get a mod plate. Does anyone have any experience fitting one of the few seats that comes with an optional airbag? Recaro Sportster is the only thing I've had a look at so far but that's a different...

Drifting a Model 3 Mid Range?

Can confirm this first hand. I enabled hoon mode on my PartyBox and the major limitation became driver skill. I was the only EV at the skidpan that day so they were pretty impressed to see a 'sensible' EV can also party.

    Does the perfect wheel exist?

Consider the MPP 365mm 'Page Mill' front brake setup. It uses the stock caliper with a bracket so it doesn't take too long to remove the bracket and reinstall the factory brake disc. No caliper or pad change, no bleeding needed. This might be workable for you if you; a) change discs between...

Autocross- SCCA EV-X Class vs. SS

I'm running the Nankang CR-S at the moment in 275/35R19. I got them late last year based on them being significantly cheaper and more available than any other UUHP or semi-slick tyre here in Oz, noting that we're often the last to get new models of anything. I've only used them once...

Would you drive your car with wheel/tire fitment like this?

I just did a track day with 19"x10" ET+35 and Nankang CR-S at 275/35r19. No rubbing on suspension or guards with street camber (i.e. 1 degree) or track camber settings but also fairly tight clearance. If I ever try one of the wider 275s I might be in a spot of bother but these were just right.

G'day all. I'll soon have a set of Mountain Pass Performance comfort adjustable coilovers for SR+/RWD for sale. Installed earlier this year, done about 15,000km. Way more comfortable than stock, best option around if you're after a luxury saloon sort of ride with adjustability for casual...

Where is this? I can find the racing seat with a wiring harness to emulate those functions and prevent warnings. I can't find one that actually has airbags, and I'm pretty keen to buy a replacement that has those so I can can use it on the street.
