Robotaxi : The business of competing with human drivers

Wrong. It happens all the time. The Chinese legal system enables it. The Chinese government encourages it. Win at all costs. Local companies steal from each other as well as from abroad. The Chinese military steals other country's technology. Heck they even owe Russia for fighter jets. It's a...

    Cybertruck is a scam.

TSLA also needs to add more standard creature comforts. It's been a short cut they've gotten away with for too long. They've pocketed the profits from that for too long. Odd they even tried it with the $100k CT.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

She claims this is a v12.4 test drive. It doesn't appear much different than v12.3.6. Still slow approach and indecisive at stop signs. At ~3:00 the driver steps on the accel pedal from a stop sign and again later at a traffic light. Auto max speed still looks problematic. Turn signals still...

FSD 12.3 activates turn signal too early...

Yep. For me it's an early turn signal, early stiff brake, and then dawdling decel into the left turn lane while making sure the aft rear end slowly clears the adjacent right lane. It's nothing if not dysfunctional. Gotta hope v12.4 doesn't add any more of these short cut, one-size-fits-all...

    I think you are correct.

Robotaxi : The business of competing with human drivers

Tech tariffs should be a damper on progress. Related to that is their culture of appropriating IP which can be a road to nowhere. Tesla sued an Xpeng engineer for autopilot secrets. Xpeng even admitted their design is heavily based on Tesla's efforts.

Robotaxi : The business of competing with human drivers

Yes. Apparently they have a fleet of around 500 RTs today.

Robotaxi : The business of competing with human drivers

I would hope Uber and Lyft would closely monitor driver insurance policies before allowing them to operate.

Robotaxi : The business of competing with human drivers

Speaking of which. There was recent talk of a Tesla and Baidu working together on RTs. Probably a low production high cost version, but I was surprised to see Baidu already has a working RT. CNBC's Eunice Yoon took one for a ride.

It's nice to hear they are using MPI as a quality indicator. My MPI is pretty low so any improvement is welcome. :)

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I'll give that a 8/10 on the snarky scale. Teslafi shows a big step in 2024.14.6 (v12.3.6) downloads the last two days.

Universal Basic Income (UBI) is coming

Yep. Even tghe typical paltry SS income is taxed. Medicare was suppose to be free but even Part B has a substantial monthly premium. Spending other's money is a wet dream. We'll need to keep cranking up interest rates to encourage enough entities to buy US debt thereby making our interest...

    Can FSD hallucinate?

There are a few forms of FSD hallucinations. One might be when relying on inaccurate map data and attempting to drive over newly constructed medians, curbs, roadway hardware. Or stopping on bridges when there might be intersections below. Chuck had a case related to 2 traffic lights although it...

    Can FSD hallucinate?

I was recently on the freeway with a 75mph speed limit. V12.3.6 enabled, in the #1 lane, traveling maybe less than 1mph faster than a vehicle in the adjacent middle lane. Wide open lanes otherwise and FSD needs to change lanes right now with the vehicle in my blind spot. Very awkward and...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I just returned from a ~300 mile trip. V12.3.6 continues to struggle when environmental stimuli increases. Indecisiveness for yellow light intersections - abrupt brief decel and then quickly accelerate through the yellow. Crazy lane change attempts. Misinterprets roadway. Accelerates into...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

It appears they are trying to model ideal driver behavior for new training data. I could see arms moving on the steering wheel and different driving behavior. On the plus they are more closely approaching the stop sign and more quickly creeping for better view. On the down side they all...
  24. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Finally retraining for comfort, braking, and throttle is music to my ears and frankly the family's vestibular system. And why not have a supervisory control/profile for it? Common sense says one size is tough to fit all.
  25. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

For sure. The time has long past for dramatic improvements but I'm not holding my breath. Lots of potentially bad news related to NHTSA, DOJ, SEC that some expected years ago. CNBC's China correspondent says China did not approve an FSD rollout. Baidu denies any connection to FSD in China...
  26. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I think NHTSA needs to respond when they detect a series of safety related issues and/or vehicle owner complaints. The oversight only gets worse as software is released abroad so good to nip it in the bud now. Update: NHTSA website...
  27. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Yep. The AutoPilot label gets thrown around a lot so hard to know. The article even mentions Autopilot as the recalled software. Sounds like NHTSA has more pertinent concerns. Specifically the system's inadequate response to in-path objects.
  28. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Maybe FSD updates will slow given today's NHTSA news? Twenty new crashes since December. https://www.theverge.com/2024/5/7/24151077/tesla-autopilot-nhtsa-recall-crash-data-request

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

And if most of Tesla's data and billions of miles are useless their previously reported training limitation was self-induced. Of course that's not to say more H100s won't speed up training given current E2E needs.
  31. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

After he disengaged there was little safety margin between ego and the oncoming cop car. And I wouldn't be surprised if the cop was close to turning around and giving him a ticket. It's a safety issue. The rules for double solid lines might be relaxed in the city but otherwise not so especially...
  32. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Of course the driver had plenty of time to intervene before. And cyclists always have the right to play out their inner Darwin on tight roads in these days of distracted drivers. Otherwise it's an unsafe move for FSD to attempt but we've seen it before with blind curves. I might have used...

Elon Musk Discussion - Tesla Brand Damage

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

There's plenty of evidence of Elon raising the bar and promising more and more outlandish things. He can't help himself plus he's been rewarded for it.
  36. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Yes if it was a capable integrated system. But it only covers the frontal path area. Of course the driver can dial it down to reduce needless alerts. On the other hand, recent versions of FSD feel slightly dialed down to avoid false alarms and put more reliance on the supervisor.

    Cybertruck is a scam.

One CT owner isn't happy. His windshield has numerous circular stress fractures within days of ownership. He thinks the foam in one of the seats wasn't installed properly. The plastic cover on the rear view mirror keeps falling down. One seat and the interior has permanent fingerprint stains...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

FSD has a history of early legendary performance. The only issue is when the rubber hits the road.
  39. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

For me, the vehicle control nets are nowhere close to refined heuristics of other production vehicles.
  40. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

True. Making it even more desperate and self-defeating to release to the masses.
  41. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Yep. If nothing else, Elon/Tesla have shown a willingness to be stubborn and always reassure the masses the next update 'changes everything.' We are told FSD is no longer training challenged so improvements should have been dramatic for v12.3.x.
  42. K

Footage of FSD v12 being tested in Germany

V12 got close to the white car at the end. Not sure why the video went blank after that. Maybe the driver needed to disengage?
  43. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I think the difference now is they've tried to speed things up, throw caution to the wind, give the impression the system is more capable than it is, and rely more on very understanding supervisors versus taking more time to process the scenery, achieve higher confidence, and do less harm. As...
  44. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Or they are pushing beyond system capabilities.
  45. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Yikes. I quit watching after the first attempt. FSD timing appears way off kilter. Maybe they need to better synchronize the new vehicle control nets or poor object kinematics estimation? Apparently many more ADAS visits are forthcoming.
  46. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

This topic probably needs a different thread but Eunice Yoon of CNBC reports FSD will launch in China 'soon.' TSLA is awaiting Chinese approval to export data for FSD training. Gotta wonder if TSLA/Elon requested opaque FSD statistics reporting.
  47. K

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Or maybe Baidu guarantees the data is cleansed prior to export? It's potentially an endless stream of data to move back/forth in the hopes of getting it right. Lots of different laws, roadway construction, roadway hardware, signage. I would guess it would require a major rebuild and/or very...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

There's FSD/China news today about Baidu providing local mapping and data collection. Not sure how they will train data given restrictions on NVDA GPUs and China limiting data exporting. Otherwise China has okayed FSD use on Chinese roads. Assume it all comes to pass this might be a quick boom...
