To be fair, shorting stock is a strategy that some avoid on general principle. Finite upside/infinite downside if you guess wrong.
No matter how down I was on a stock, I would never short it for that reason.
Maybe. Maybe not.
But those new hires would likely know how their predecessors were let go. I don’t know how excited or motivated they might be knowing they could be fired en masse regardless of their individual performance and/or value to the company. Coming to work every day knowing you’re...
I’ve sent a fair amount of time battling unwarranted FUD re: Tesla’s and EV’s in general on several social media sites.
FUD should not be assumed to be unwarranted or used in a derogatory manner. Fear, uncertainty and doubt may be quite justified when a company’s actions - including those of...
I’ve mentioned that we recently bought a used 2022 Toyota Tundra to serve primarily as a tow vehicle. It has both Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist*. The Adaptive Cruise Control seems on par with Tesla’s. The Lane Keep Assist is noticeably less smooth. So, even pretty standard ICE...
I’ve mentioned how disillusioned I’ve been with what’s going on at Tesla, and specifically with what are apparently impulsive actions by Musk. I’m not sure I want to be invested in a company that treats its employees - and top managers - so cavalierly. As such, I have a plan concerning our...
Considered? Yes. But then decided against for now.
I mentioned elsewhere I may put in at least a “mental” stop loss order at $122/share, my current basis. It’s one thing to admit one was wrong about a company and not make money, it’s another to hang on in desperation when one begins to lose...
To be pedantic, “decimate” literally means to reduce by 10%, so not really appropriate here.
Though I’ll stipulate that in common usage it’s often used to mean to reduce by a substantial or extreme amount.
Don’t recall that. But I do recall a car company (Volvo?) a few decades ago floating the idea of what it would take to make a car last “forever”. Two main problems presented themselves…
1) The car would cost several times what a conventional car would cost, due largely to the cost involved in...
Do you use Superchargers? And if so, do you have to drop the trailer each time to do so?
I ask because we delayed our CyberTruck purchase for the time being and bought a lightly used Toyota Tundra largely for towing. It kinda sucks going back to ICE, but there’s no denying the convenience of...
I mentioned before the obvious effect these firings must have on the morale of remaining employees.
Add to that the effect on potential employees - especially upper level management types. I suspect they would have to very seriously reconsider before going to work for someone so mercurial and...
Don't know if this has been mentioned already, but what do you suppose these Draconian cuts do to employee morale overall? I imagine there was a certain pride in being a Tesla employee, but it would be hard not to have "Sword of Damocles" feelings now among the remaining employees.
Not sure about that.
For example, they opened 24 stalls in Powell, TN, north of Knoxville. Two other Supercharger locations nearby, though this one has easy I-75 access while the others don’t.
Still, this is still just north of a Supercharger “desert” I mentioned before. That “desert” is...
Not so long ago, I posted this:
Recent developments certainly haven’t helped in this regard, with firings of “new product” and Supercharger employees. Maybe there’s “method to the madness”, but the perception of loss of direction clearly doesn’t inspire confidence.
I’m even more discouraged...
It’s simpler than that, I think.
If a speedometer is a tad optimistic, it has you going into turns a bit more slowly than you think you’re going. Not much harm in that.
But if a speedometer is pessimistic, the inverse is true - you’re going faster than you think you are, and harm can come of...
The mountains of Appalachia are a very popular tourist destination - we have a home near the middle of the map below.
This hardly seems like the time to slow down expansion.
I’ve asked this before? Is the accelerator perfectly functional without the cover? If so, that makes delays in getting a new/revised cover less than trivial.
Anyone here actually driven theirs that way?
I may be repeating myself, but when road tripping I think the best bailout adapter is the 14-50.
If unusual circumstances arrive and there’s no Supercharger or other charging option within reasonable range, just type “campground” into navigation, navigate there and offer the manager a small but...
I’d hope they have a Battery Management System that takes them offline below a certain voltage to protect them from the damage a total discharge does. But I don’t know for a fact that they do.
We can only hope!
There’s an expression that I may not fully understand or agree with: “The Perception is the Reality”.
My “social media” is comprised mostly of Threads and Facebook, having abandoned Twitter some time ago. On both of these, the majority perception of Tesla, the CyberTruck and...
Has anyone else seen this - I haven’t seen it posted.
It comes close to my current sentiments.
That up to now, Tesla has had a “Master Plan” involving more Gigafactories, more models, Semi production and the like. Recently they seem to be “thrashing around” with lack of focus and erratic...
They start at $38,990 now, which adjusted for inflation would be very close to that original $35k goal.
I wonder if the path to a $25k Tesla might not be via a trimmed-down Model 3. With more efficient production and economies of scale, a smaller battery and combined with government...
Isn’t one of Elon’s maxims: “The best part is no part?”
A non-functional trim piece on an accelerator pedal would certainly seem to violate this ideal.
I think the point was the danger of driving to a service center with a known defect, a liability concern of its own.
Is the accelerator trim piece easily removable?
I’ve mentioned the maxim “Never try to catch a falling knife”.
Related is the humility to recognize how many times one has been wrong before. IOW, thinking $250 or $200 or $175 was “just a fantastic price” and buying all the way down. What, exactly, would give one confidence that there’s...
Forgive me if this has been mentioned - this is a hard thread to keep up with.
Analogies are, by their nature, never perfect. But someone on Threads contrasted Musk with Lee Iacocca. In that when Chrysler was struggling, Iacocca voluntarily had his salary reduced to $1 to show how serious he...
We’re on a trip back from Texas to Tennessee after seeing the eclipse in Texas and swing south to Tampa for a Bat Mitzvah.
So far this trip we saw our first Cybertruck in the wild in a Target parking lot near Austin. Then another on the Interstate in Texas. And yesterday one on the Interstate...
It may or may not be justified, but I have a very low opinion of GM quality and reliability. And our new-to-us Toyota Tundra is serving us quite well..
That does seem shortsighted. Wanting to carry motorcycles and such in the bed, the range extender makes it a non-starter for our use case. 500 mile range with maybe 250 towing and the full bed available, and we might be back in the market for one.
Must really suck for those new owners.
But that’s 10 out of how many delivered? It may translate to less than 1%. Still too high, but perhaps understandable for version 1 of a vehicle with so much new tech.
Airplanes suffer a definite hit to airspeed in the rain. It increases surface friction drag by disturbing the laminar flow of air over the wings. Of course, in a car this is compounded by the drag of the tires meeting the water puddling on the road surface.
Is it universally bad or more “anecdotally” bad?
The one time we needed it - in 2+ years and 55,000 miles, getting the rear defroster fixed - the experience was quick and efficient. Knoxville, TN service center, BTW.
A friend is on his second Lightning - the first was totaled in a rear end collision. He likes it a lot. The frunk is cavernous. The interior is a bit “busy”, but pretty sure I’d get used to it.
My main concern would be for service after the sale if something did go wrong. Might be unfounded...
I wonder if allowing nature to run its course with the finish may become a thing. Seeing at more as a “patina” and less like *sugar*. Kind of like the mottled look of color case hardening. But more likely, wrapping may be the most popular option.
