Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

It's not a Plaid issue. It's a geometry issue exacerbated by power numbers. Jeebus krist. That's what it is.

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

If you think about it, the difference between 9.29 sec and 9.7 sec is precisely 0.31 seconds. 1/3 of a second. A blink of an eye. Trap speed is the indicator of HP applied to forward motion.

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

For optimal results maximum SoC is needed, optimal tire pressure, and empty the car out (yes it's 5,000 lbs but every little bit helps, and a good reason to clean out the car). I believe that if it is an NHRA member track you DO NOT need a roll cage or any of that other stuff. You need a...

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

My best times are between 6.03 and 6.08 around 119 mph 95% SOC and 42 PSI cool pressure in the tires on prepped (drag strip) surfaces. Can't seem to crack into the 5's. All stock. Nothing removed. Maybe I need to lose a few pounds or wait for a tailwind.

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

The Sapphire's traction control is considered one of the best in the industry. And with cars this torquey, that makes a difference. I did notice though that the Sapphire was able to pull on the Tesla, but not assertively. The race is won in the first second. That's why if I ever get next to...

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

I think maybe they can without hardware upgrades. If a Plaid can run duration racing at the track without overheating, it can be over juiced for drag racing lengths of time without damage to the heavy components. Electronics, not sure. Maybe the ESC's will need upgrading. Battery and motors, no.

Plaid Drag Racing - Not such a great night

Sapphire is the real deal. But its only marginally faster. Reflexes are decisive through 1/4 mile. Plaid wins hands down for value but the Sapphire is surely a better car.

I'm hoping they sell an OTA upgrade to boost to 1,300 HP for short periods. Lol.

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

FWIW, the one time I used the classic PS4 (non-Tesla spec) 21" Michelins, they did NOT come apart and lasted 16,000 miles. Coincidence? Not sure.

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

I tried the SIM also, didn't work at all- rather than deal with a refund I just kept it, hoping they would get it right- apparently not yet. I am thinking about designing an aluminum flip/magnet latch hinged mount for larger iPad. So it mounts solidly in front of most of the Tesla main screen...

Plaid rear tire wear - going after Michelin again - share your experiences?

It was set to low. Not sure if it was in Jack Mode. I don't think so. I seem to recall checking before they raised it and it was not.

Plaid rear tire wear - going after Michelin again - share your experiences?

He offered that he has seen this for years. Most recently in a customer's 911 Turbo. Same issue. He says what kills the tires on the inside edges is squatting under acceleration. An independent squats and toe moves outward under acceleration. A significant toe out condition combined with the...

Plaid rear tire wear - going after Michelin again - share your experiences?

I discussed it with them. One of their guys has setup independent race suspensions for decades. I told him to do what he thought was best. We will have to wait and see 😅. We aligned it on the low setting which is what I normally drive.

Plaid rear tire wear - going after Michelin again - share your experiences?

AFAIK, this shop is exceptional. Been going to them for decades. It was a very new machine (then). Well, if anyone can tell me what the numbers should be, I will work with them today to adjust the rear.

Plaid rear tire wear - going after Michelin again - share your experiences?

I have a lot of experience turning wrenches. I am close with the shop and get my head in there all the time when working on things. They are top notch. The last alignment we did was spot on but I also insisted on doing it in"low" suspension level. I have attached the latest results.

Plaid rear tire wear - going after Michelin again - share your experiences?

This is my fourth set of Mich PS4S and the third set ready to come apart on the inner tread corners of each tire. When the first set (T2s) came apart at just over 6,000 miles Michelin stepped up and paid for a second set. The second set did a bit better but didn't last very long either. Third...

Thought I would share my "Tesla Experience"!

That's cool. But I would still have press Jet Hanger to get to Metal Prison Bars, unless I wanted to activate Jet Hanger, in which case I would not press Jet Hanger, but rather, -press Activate, which is right next to it. 😂

As owners, any chance we will ever get the opportunity to buy the full diagnostics suite that their service centers have access to? And why not?

Getting tired of not being able to diagnose my own car when I am simply locked out of a computer that can tell me what to check.

Backed out of my garage and driveway for the hundreth-ish time today. Here is what buttons I pressed to leave my property; 1. Garage - Activate 2. Garage (to open the Homelink remotes pull down- but not activate the Garage) 3. Gate (to open the gate) 4. Garage (not Garage - Activate) 5. Gate...

The 2 Best Days In a Plaid Owner’s Life

Hah! Well said 😂👍. Although recently the rule broke. A couple years ago I bought and installed a whole house generator. Now that I had one, of course I expected I would never need to use it. I was wrong. Four times since then! Oddly, instead of being angry at my utility, I felt validated...

Thanks. I just looked into it more. All three motors are unique to the Plaid with the carbon fiber rotor sleeving. The rear motors use are a completely unique laminate plate system and magnet layout.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tesla did not care about resale value much at all. Elon is denied is $56B CEO payout- for now. $56B. Tesla used to be about tech, now I wonder if it only about investors, the C-Suite, and making money off market valuation rather than longer term company health...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

40 all around. Sometimes I wonder if letting them get to 38 and then hitting the throttle a few times is really bad. Even though 38 shouldn't cause that. Maybe it does. 38 is within the allowable range but I suspect that internal structural damage/failure causes the rapid and unusual wear.

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Yes. It did not help. What did seem to help was to run the rears at 42 psi all the time. That got me 17,000 miles out of the last set.

    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

It would be nice if we could choose to disable the blind spot camera when we are signaling but are stopped at an intersection- such as waiting to turn left at a stoplight, or turning right. I do not find the camera helpful at all but rather distracting.

    Dear Tesla

Thanks again Tesla. And maybe you could have that student programmer who made the Homelink buttons try it out. I mean who doesn't instinctively press "garage" to get to the "gate" remote and then press "gate" again to work the gate. But if you only want to open the garage, don't press garage...

I don't care if he's been "clear" What I am ticked about is Tesla isn't working it out and they don't appear to give a cr4p that we can't use other apps like we can on our phones or other cars. Bluetooth from a phone was cool from 2008-2012 but jeez guys. They don't talk about it. They act...
