Yes they are. Was simply asking if they were the new LFP type or the older Lithium Ion type. Probably, I should have said “the older Li Ion type” to be crystal clear. But you’ve very helpfully cleared it up. 😉

Haha. Yep, well I don’t need telepathy if the car is over 23% when I arrive home, which is 99.5% of the time. I only need apathy, which I’m excellent at. 👍🏻 The other 0.5% of the time I admit I look and make adjustments 🧐 😂 I find it works really well, especially for the wife, who is 0%...

Have you got LFP batteries in your MY performance? Or are they Lithium Ion (same as my 2022 LR model Y? (I suspect they are Li Ion still, same as the earlier MY LR). LFP batteries have a pretty flat voltage over the usable range, so it’s hard for the BMS to know an exact % figure without fairly...

Hi, Top tip: If you have a normal 7kW charger and the IOG integration is with the Tesla and want a hassle free 80% every morning; 1) Set the “off peak end time” in the TESLA app to 05:30. (And 80% or more) 2) Set the “ready by time” in the OCTOPUS app to 05:30. And 80%. Doing this stops the...

I guess it’s the std 3.68 + an extra 5. I got 10.12 kW export approved but think I’m the only one with panels on our street so far.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Yeah, these “smart” meters can be a bit dodgy. I’ve had them replaced at least 3 times. Took ages of messing about. They worked for a week or two then didn’t . The last ones seem ok after they added the extra aerial on the electric meter, despite the signal being good before! I guess them...

I think for a most of the year “all electric house” you’re doing very well TBH. 👍🏻 Don’t forget that’s all your car fuel as well. It isn’t easy with these big old solid wall properties. We’ve been effectively 100% off peak usage since end of June last year, and even exporting a (tiny) bit of...

we use quite a lot of gas, so it’s worth a try, we’ve got gas CH, cooker and a couple of gas fires. Even when we ‘don’t use any’ in the summer it’s still about £3 a day - presumably for hot water cylinder heating. Since joining Octopus flexible; Aug £89 Sept £88 Oct £165 Nov £340 Dec £370 Jan...

Thanks @spon88 @Drew57 Much appreciated. Presumably there is less chance of it spiking up in summer? Sent the email to swap. Should have done that 9 months ago 😅 Better late than never.

What’s the average price on the Octopus gas tracker? Would you say it’s a lot cheaper than the standard Octopus gas tariff I’ve been on since switching to Octopus last summer? I’m guilty of ignoring the gas costs as I’ve been mainly focussed on my electricity

My IO charging is working fine still. I haven’t updated anything yet. I haven’t received any requests to update anything either. What is all this talk of virtual keys ? Is this some kind of update required that we all need to do? Or just specific to some cars/ people? And if an update is...

👆🏻This. A mild annoyance but still workable. This is prevented using the 05:30 “off peak end” time in the Tesla app instead of a 23:30 start charge time. Up to 15-20 mins isn’t much but if it’s X mins of house battery at 7kW or at peak cost, it adds up if you plug in every day. And it seems...

Ah, yes, sorry I misunderstood you. I thought you meant it overrides the 05:30 IO “stop time” (- the “Ready by” time) and gave you extra slots afterwards. Just re-read your post and it makes sense now. I think you’ve inadvertently reminded me of why I set an (05:30) end time in the Tesla app...

Hi @Drew57, Good point. Not required as current tariffs stand(?). Only 1 or possibly 2 apps to fiddle with now. Where I am, IO definitely seems to have a preference for selecting the later slots in the off peak period up until 05:00 or 05:30 rather than earlier slots (if the whole period isn’t...

I’ve never seen IO “override the 05:30 stop”. If 05:30 “Ready by” time is set in the Octopus app, it has never charged the car past that time. And if you have “off peak end time set to 05:30 in the car as well, even if you did set the Octopus “ready by” time after 05:30, or it “overrides the...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I I think this is a very close call. Particularly if you have an ASHP. If you have enough to last the whole day on batteries in the winter then IOG would appear to be much better on the face of things, with the 15p export. And 7.5p import. Because your average import price is always going to...

Anyone fitted a charge port light?

I was pondering drilling a hole between the rear light to the charge port and stuffing some fibre optic cables between the two but thought it a bit extreme. Might solve the condensation problem in the rear lights as well !

Anyone fitted a charge port light?

Good to know. I think mine would be useless in the mode where the light stays on dim all night and bright with movement. But the mode where it only comes on for 30 seconds should be good all year round as well. 💪🏼 Switched mine on last night (impatient !) Worked great (one day in 😂). Except...

Anyone fitted a charge port light?

yep. Agree. There was some charge in it when purchased. But today; overcast and raining not ideal. The light comes on for 30 seconds when motion is detected near the charge port/ bin area in the PIR only mode, which means usage will be minimal. Eventually I guess it’ll get replace with a hard...

You and me both. This is a 2 screw “quick fix”. That’s why I reckon it’ll only last a year. Gonna try the “easter egg” ten press trick tonight whilst I’m waiting 2 days to charge the solar light. Of course this is only a solution if you have the Tesla “Wall Connector”.

I’ve gone for a small solar powered security light from B&Q as a quick fix - £15. Screwed it to the house wall. Use it in PIR mode only. Not sure how good it’ll be (says charge it for at least 2 days before using). It’s quite bright though. Time will tell, I reckon if it lasts longer than a...

Is the GivEnergy warranty different if a battery physically breaks/ just stops working? It says in brackets that the 8.2 and 9.5 (100% DOD models, I assume) are exempt from the throughput limit - “fair use”? I’m just going on the fact that it’s a 10 year unlimited cycle warranty, so I’ll use it to the max, to get maximum savings over that period and whatever capacity degradation there is after the warranty expires. Well, it is what it is. It might be 20% it might be 30%. Might be totally different...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Yes I see your point and actually I do now compare it using the existing cheap rate car charging to get a more honest answer for that part. It’s how you quantify the battery savings from “importing to export it later” and solar generally that’s a bit more subjective. You can look at it many...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Yes I do 7.5p. I’m including that as a saving, compared to the (Octopus) SVR I was on pre Tesla and solar. Because that’s what I would be paying. If I want to separate that and compare savings on the current IOG dual rate then I deduct the number of kW that went into the car and/ or house...
