Park Assist Question on Model S 21 Refresh

I have a 22 MS and auto park doesn’t work at all. Maybe 1 in 20 times that I have obsessively followed everyone’s instructions about how to drive close to a single space flanked by 2 cars has the option popped up. I allowed it to park the car one time and it took about twice the time I would...

People who don't buy because of "charging time"

On road trips I find that I need to stop anyway for bathroom breaks or grab a bite etc and taking 15-20 min is not a big deal. I have mostly been driving up and down the east coast and have never had to wait for a supercharger. Other than on road trips I’m exclusively charging at home or...

Gen 3 Wall Connector speed on MS

Just as a data point, my 2022 MS on the gen3 wall connector on a 60 amp circuit averages around 45 miles of charge per hour, typically charging in the 30-75% range.

    Funny FSD story

I have found that police are sometimes curious and fascinated by Teslas. I had a cop pull up next to me at a supercharger and he struck up a long conversation about the car and what it was like to go to EV from ICE. Genuinely interested and he wasn’t being an ass. My wife and I were on a...

Tesla Service experience with 2 flat tires in Big Bear area

I guess I am used to the era of standard spares and a tire failure being a 30 minute minor inconvenience. You are right that it still can be this way by purchasing a spare and Tesla-capable jack, and hauling them everywhere in a car not really designed to accommodate them. Just seems like this...

Tesla Service experience with 2 flat tires in Big Bear area

Yes, I have had AAA for over 30 years, with mixed experiences. AAA is typically highly resistant to sending a flat bed tow truck, issuing many warnings that you will be charged extra if it is deemed to not be necessary, and they will just tow you to a service center or tire center rather than...

I'm picking up my MSLR 2023 this Friday, and I'm absolutely having second thoughts now.

I find it funny that people buy a car or not based on park assist or some gimmicky TOP-down simulated camera view. You spend much less than 1% of time in your car actively parking, and it’s the most pedestrian of skills unless you have special handicaps. Quibbling over minutia! It’s like...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Perhaps, but just the fact that they are now classifying these disengagements means they have an opportunity to manage the issues. With likely tens of thousands of reports now likely coming in every day, they should have an intake methodology that will allow them to classify the submitted...

    FSD Beta v11.x

I do find it reassuring that Tesla is actively soliciting causes for forced disengagements. It suggests that they have enough capacity at this point to actually care about the scenarios that are most problematic, through a systematic rather than anecdotal approach. The refinement stage...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Beware of left turns into oncoming traffic lanes. Had two today in different locations using 11.3.4. One was technically a shared turning lane but the vehicle basically ignored the turn markings on the ground. The other was into the left turn lane for oncoming traffic 😱

    FSD Beta v11.x

Had a generally improved first city streets drive in an NC city last night on 11.3.4. In general, the car is very noticeably smoother with turns, cruising, and anticipating where it will need to go. Compared to when I got the vehicle 14 months ago, the FSD progress is substantial. I...

Has anyone heard of a Tesla being rear ended because of phantom braking?

While the purpose of the post is fishing for accidents related to phantom braking, it is worth mentioning that in order for overall safety rates to be assessed you need to compare accident rate and severity per mile that occur without FSD beta active, versus with. But this gets complex because...

Has anyone heard of a Tesla being rear ended because of phantom braking?

I use FSD beta and I don’t think I have ever experienced “phantom braking” as people describe it here on TMC. I do occasionally sense gentle deceleration for no discernible reason with FSD beta. It may take me up to one second to confirm there is indeed no reason, then my foot resting on the...

Does the FSD recall mean we're finally getting Beta V11? | TMC Podcast #35

If you can set the cruise control in your (any other car) at 80 in a 30 mph zone, why not your Tesla? It may be neither smart nor legal to do so, but that’s what tickets and consequences are for. Gimping the car in Big Brother fashion could easily be done on any vehicle with a Navi and speed...

Tesla Begrudgingly “Recalls” FSD Beta for NHTSA

Tesla Begrudgingly “Recalls” FSD Beta for NHTSA

It seems to me that the NHTSA is setting pretty high standards for a level 2 driver assist function. If near perfect decision making independent of the driver is the standard they are setting for level 2, it will be curious to see how other automakers will be able to enter this sector. Or...
