    Condensation in tail lights verdict??

Thanks for the suggestion, I cancelled the appointment and will give the DIY fix a go.

    Condensation in tail lights verdict??

I've got the problem now too, less than two years old but > 50k miles. Mobile service quote is $408 to fix it.

    Supercharger - Vernal, UT

This is probably why the SC in Vernal hasn't happened https://www.motherjones.com/environment/2013/03/how-vernal-utah-learned-love-big-oil/

Supercharger failure - Oak Brook Mall (dead Teslas?)

If you don't have charging at home you probably shouldn't have an EV, particularly in a cold climate where it takes a fair amount just to keep it alive.

Supercharger failure - Oak Brook Mall (dead Teslas?)

If you put a driver that's only ever driven automatics in a manual the results are usually comical. While the analogy is strained EVs are similar in that they are not idiot proof, and there a f***ton of idiots out there.

    Supercharger - Vernal, UT

I'm wondering if there is some foot dragging by local government agencies in Vernal. Isn't that a big oil producing area?

Just picked up my third Tesla rental from Hertz. This one has premium connectivity expired, super annoying. Somebody needs to fix this.

I'm wondering what today's events spell for oil price and supply stability. I've always thought all it would take is some gas lines and shortages to convert a significant percentage of the "I can refill in three minutes" crowd.

    Tax discussion, strategies and questions

We could ask the question whether people who don't have $7,500 in tax liability have any business buying a new car in the first place, Tesla EV or otherwise.

Ugh, this sets up a 4Q situation a little like last year. Why would I buy a Tesla now if I can wait until January and get the credit immediately off the top... and remove uncertainty about getting the full credit (How much will I be paying in income tax this year after deductions and whatnot...

You need to have a minimum number of wall connectors to participate in the billing system? I installed a WC at a vacation rental but it's a loner. That's ok, I'm fine making it a complimentary amenity for guests, but would be interested to know if there are future options.

I've been wondering and wanting to ask about this as well but was to lazy/busy to read back through bazillions of posts where it has already been addressed and didn't want to be ostracized for being that guy. Almost any single missing component can hold up an entire production line. Perhaps...

Can Two Phones be Paired to the Car at The Same Time

Thanks for the thorough explanation. Remind me again, this is supposed to be a convenience, right? :-) Sounds like no matter what once the car decides which pair device to connect it doesn't switch unless you explicitly change it.

Can Two Phones be Paired to the Car at The Same Time

This thread came up on a search, is the following possible? Wife and I both have phones (of course who doesn't) paired to the car. When we both get in the car I would like the car to automatically "connect" to whoever is driving (active profile). The other person can make or take calls on their...

    Advice on Wall Connector install

I continue to come across wall connectors that haven't been properly provisioned or provisioned at all. I doubt most electricians are capable of performing this step. They really should make the factory default setting for circuit breaker size the minimum so it has to overtly set to the correct...

Last night on the news they were talking about the impending UAW strike and mentioned that Toyota and Tesla are non-union. What I found interesting about that statement was that Tesla finally has enough mind share to be thought of with the same level of significance as Toyota by the MSM.

IDK about a bunch of stupid ads that just annoy everyone but some nicely chosen sponsorships could be interesting. One example that comes to mind is the Tour of Utah, which used to be sponsored by a big Toyota dealer. That got killed off by covid and never made a comeback. Something about cycle...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I had a polite disagreement a long time ago with my FIL about paying cash for a car, he said he didn't want to pay interest instead of taking the 1.9% the dealer was offering. He proceeded to pull $30k from investments that were reliably yielding 8-10% at the time plus he got hit with a little...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

We are on our second Tesla and a good portion of immediate family has them. I totally agree the on line process is preferable to being "put in the box" but there are glitches and someone less tech savvy or dedicated could struggle... or simply be trepidatious about engaging with it in the first...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I have a lot of really nice neighbors and they are actually pretty smart but they certainly aren't Tesla fanbois. We tend to put an outsized level of importance on all this in our psyche while they are busy with whatever is going on in their lives. Honestly I can't make a case to them that they...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

No, I hate all that. But I see a lot of people around me with plenty of money who are simply used to going somewhere, sitting in the car, taking a test drive, and then being shepherded through the process. I know that's totally anecdotal, but it feels like it's a big chunk of addressable market...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Thanks for breaking it down. You'd think more people in this market segment would be paying cash, but that's a whole different subject. I have to say if Tesla does have any shortfall of willing buyers what it takes to navigate the digital buying experience could use further introspection...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Maybe it's our CU but we found the mechanism for paying cash to be challenging and Tesla makes it difficult to give them money. Far easier to just take the financing then pay it off when the bill comes. Similar experience back in the days of buying gas cars, almost like cash buyers are suspect.

Maybe nobody watches NBC any more but they had a blurb on C-V2X this morning, all about how it will save kid's lives. They put up a graphic of all the car makes logos signed on to support it but I didn't see the big "T". Seems like a missed opportunity.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

It feels like a lot of phev owners don't bother getting 240v/L2 installed, but rather content themselves with whatever they can get with provided adapter. My neighbor has a jeep occasionally plugged into the porch outlet so that's probably what they all do.

    Advice on Wall Connector install

According to the Rocky Mountain Power smart meter the highest consumption reported over any one hour period last winter was 11.74 kwh. It only got over 10kwh during a few one hour periods and the average for the winter months was less than 4kwh per hour. Of course there could have been higher...

    Advice on Wall Connector install

FWIW the dryer says it is 24 amps max and the hot tub is on a 40a breaker. I'm going to keep digging, somehow I suspect it's going to be fine with the wall connector dialed back. I would be fine even running it at the 20a or even 15a setting, still way better that a 120v plug for my needs but...
  37. S

    Advice on Wall Connector install

I fooled around with it a little more. The Rocky Mountain Power website shows the kwh consumed over any one hour interval, similar to FPL. Unlike FPL however the RMP smart meter doesn't display the instantaneous power draw. Without acquiring anything new I suppose the best approximation would be...

    Advice on Wall Connector install

That might be the problem. There's a question of how quickly the wall connector and the car could respond to an increase in the load on the main, eg water heater or dryer switching on. Also how failsafe is it. The wall connector could only keep power flowing to the car in the presence of an...

    Advice on Wall Connector install

The difference between what I am envisioning and the DCC10 thing is that it could be done with much less hardware. The smarts could all be in the wall connector and the only additional hardware would be something like that emporia gadget that measures the current on the panel mains. The wall...

    Advice on Wall Connector install

Right, but can that available current indication be varied *during* the charging session or is it communicated once at the time the connection is made and the contactor closed?
  41. S

    Advice on Wall Connector install

Thanks I see that now. That's a lot more hardware though. Given that the car can vary it's draw some solution that monitors panel load could be comparatively simple. IDK if the wall connector can dynamically control the available current or if that's just communicated on the initial handshake. I...

    Advice on Wall Connector install

That's the ticket... what would be even better is a gadget like this intelligently communicating with the wall connector. Basically throttle the car to use no more than whatever is left over. Now finding electricians who can understand all that and configure it would be challenging.

    Advice on Wall Connector install

Looks like for that the EVSE and the dryer need to plug into the same box. What if the dryer is nowhere near the garage?
  44. S

    Advice on Wall Connector install

The dryer is the obvious lynchpin here. We rent this place out. I think we should be ok with the wall connector pulling 24A but thought about putting up a sign by the dryer and the wall connector advising not to charge a car while drying clothes. Not exactly idiot proof but might provide a...

    Advice on Wall Connector install

I don't think there even is a standard load panel calculation that would be valid for my situation. 100A service, there is no AC and the furnace, water heater and range are all gas, but there is a hot tub and electric dryer. Also there is a significant amount of heat tape on the roof. Without...

    Advice on Wall Connector install

I'm gonna smack the next guy who disses a DIYer saying your house is going to burn down if you don't get a licensed electrician. It's probably rare to find one who will go through the wall connector commissioning procedure, mine certainly didn't. So there we were, set for 60A on a 50A breaker...
