Our thoughts on the Model 3 Refresh | TMC Podcast #50

Refresh M3 most likely will not have to go through safety crash testing, as the exterior is cosmetic (bumpers, fenders and wheels). Ventilated seats are needed - have had them for years in my ICE vehicles. Really wish they kept the "stalks" on either side of the steering wheel, but the other...

New Fisker Pear to arrive in 2025 with sub-£30,000 price tag

Hype and marketing speculation of the future. We have all seen this before. One thing is for sure - There will be lots of changes in the next few years with who survives, energy types (Petrol, carbon neutral synthetic fuels - look at what F1 is pioneering) and battery tech.

China’s Abandoned, Obsolete EVs Are Piling Up in Cities

Where are they not shaky right now? That 2021-2022 FOMO, super World wide injection of money into the system boomerang was going to hit hard in a negative - those effects will last a while.

One Year Anniversary - The Good, The Bad and The Interesting

Good review. Dang, having issues the 1st couple of days and needed to be towed to the dealer - reminds me of my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited on day 3 would not start in the garage and a sensor was on back order for weeks. That’s never a good feeling. Dang, PPF + tint + new wheels and...

China’s Abandoned, Obsolete EVs Are Piling Up in Cities

None of this should shock anyone. There is a massive focus on building and selling EV's, not on recycling at this time. Going green is more that EV, going green and reducing a carbon footprint is hold on to your vehicle or anything in general longer - much longer. Not the 3 year lease and get a...

Acceleration Boost vs Third Party Hacks

IMO - Save your money for the next vehicle purchase - get the "Performance" model 3. 4.3 seconds 0-60 is blazing fast compared to 95% of the vehicles on the road. 3.1 sec in the Performance is epic fast. If you want it - get the upgrade from Tesla - you know they back it and the other "update...

    Certified model 3 purchase problem

In this day and age, ALWAYS see and drive the vehicle you are going to plunk down a lot of money for. Plus read the contract before you sign it - on the warranties of a CPO. Believe they are just obligated to fix the issue.

    Inexpensive DIY tire rotation.

Safety first - That jack holding up the heavy vehicle is not safe IMO. You need solid jack stands and a good torque wrench too. Discount Tire or Tire America does rotations for FREE. No tools needed. Plus, have great deals on new tires when you need them.

M3 performance lifetime average Wh per mile

I guess Adrian Newey (Red Bull chief designer and aero principle) should dimple the F1 car and pour mud over it to make it more aero efficient? Nonsense, a slick vehicle will enable the aero design to maximize the efficiency flow. Last step in increasing your car's aerodynamics after reducing...

M3 performance lifetime average Wh per mile

NM Heat. Texas heat is similar or worse. All windows (plus windshield with LLUMAR AIR 80) with LLumar IRX ceramic tint on the doors and back. Get sunshades for the roof glass - as doing all of them helps reduce cabin heat drastically (windshield tint reduces dashboard heat, which keeps the air...

Missed Initial Tire Rotation, Now at 12,000 Miles. Still do it?

Yep, turning tires up front wear the edges faster, similar to back tires wearing the meat of the tire from the electric torque to the wheels. BTW - Discount tire and Tire America do rotations for free.

Best tint % for rear window M3

IMO - Better to go with hight quality ceramic tint with superior TSER values. 50% windshield is hard to see out of on a dark road at night with not lights on the road. It's a minor increase in reduction in TSER - to me its not worth the risk of getting a ticket or worse - as removal is...

Best tint % for rear window M3

Austin Texas - Suntint - 512-467-6767 SunBusters (Austin one, not Lakeway) 512-794-8468 Done a bunch of vehicles at both over the years. Call to see which one fits your needs and budget.

Best tint % for rear window M3

Get asked this question a lot on tint and %. Really depends on your state, but doing darker does not necessarily mean substantially more heat reduction. TSER is the best metric to compare the different tint performance. What that metric does not tell you is clarity to see through it. I like...

2021 MSP to 2023 MSP and its differences

I tried Tesbros DIY PPF - here’s my thoughts

It's in the "Prep". Getting the panels clean and remove any wax or spray polish. Best way is to wipe those panels down a few time with baby shampoo and the isopropyl - thats the trick. Warm weather is best, tacking the corner with the isopropyl spray mixture will hold it while you squeegee the...

    2 MY Household

My 2-cents (worth less in this super inflation economy). Save the $$$ for the next updated Tesla - 4.2 sec (M3LR) and 4.8 sec (MYLR) is still blazing fast compared to everything else - ICE or EV wise.

I tried Tesbros DIY PPF - here’s my thoughts

Great DIY exp. PPF, vinyl or widow tint takes practice to get good. I did the hood, bumper and mirror caps - used a pre-cut kit online. Here are some of the tips that make the install better and more professional. 1) Having a second person to help, makes a world of difference. 2) Know when to...

    2 MY Household

If one already has a Y in the family - the M3 (especially the P) is the more balanced garage (IMO). They drive completely different - the M3P feels planted like a sports car and MY(P or LR) is a much taller SUV with the 6" riser on the seat to the floor. Kind of the difference between a 911 vs...

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

Nah, I welcome the changes, similar to when the model 3 first came out. Just a big screen to do everything, quite the opposite of a button layout of everyone else.

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

Not a gimmick. Why would you NOT charge to a 100% at home if it had not negative effects on the batter? It doesn’t get that cold in Texas, but super hot for months long. Regardless of tech for batteries - none like cold weather - that’s why they are heated to keep them at an ideal state of...

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

I guess we can agree to disagree. Those benefits were noted by several highly reliable EV publications and tests. If Tesla is moving to utilizing them in more vehicles - I lean on their expertise there are good reasons why.

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

There is a HUGE benefit. LFP batteries are not prone to fires at all. They have reserve power that can unlocked - as you are not filling it up to 100% - even when the screen says 100%. I'd buy a new Tesla with LFP in the Performance version even if it was a little slower 0-60! Other benefits...

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

May not be range cutting with LFP batteries or 4680 batteries. The 1st can be charged to 100% daily, the latter not. Bet there is room and unrealized capacity and efficiency to release that will make "real world" driving range a lot better. Cost cutting does not have to be a bad thing - don't...

Car got scratched at the airport

Agree. Hard to tell from the photos how deep those marks are. OP - A good professional detailer could easily access the damage and a few quick passes with an orbital buffer, high quality compound and polish may take most if not all of it out. This is a great example, where if you don't have the...

Car got scratched at the airport

Agree with the rest. Skip insurance and a body shop for now. Call a few good auto detailers who can look at the scratch, buff it out with the least abrasive compound, polish and that May do the trick. Doing it by hand will not produce the results you are looking for. Buffing to polish a car is...

Pic of your Model 3.......RIGHT NOW! [model 3 pictures thread]

Great looking wheels and stance. If you painted the rotor hub black instead of OEM light gray - wheels would pop out more. Or just upgrade to new rotors with stronger stopping power.

    Model Y tint pictures

LLumar - is my go to tint. Super color and heat stable. Looks very uniform! Super dark in the sunlight, can't even see it has white interior. A roof shade for the super sunny days will help control the temps inside too.

Nice - one super shinny M3P. Like the drop and spacers. 19" wheels - square or staggered - going wider width too?
  42. Evpowerdan

Pic of your Model 3.......RIGHT NOW! [model 3 pictures thread]

There you go - those MPP slotted rotors with some ceramic pads will increase the stopping power a lot. While you are changing them - paint the calipers too.

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

Why the smallest diameter wheel that clear the brakes? That would be a 18". Wider tires (245 or 255) will help with traction, both straight line and in the corners.
  44. Evpowerdan

Pic of your Model 3.......RIGHT NOW! [model 3 pictures thread]

Nice. Instead of BIG caliper covers, just paint the calibers the color you desire. Not a big DIY project, but takes a little time and prep

Discussion: Model 3 Price reductions - Jan / April / Oct 2023 and all other pricing discussions

LFP battery in the M3LR being shipped in June/23. Those batteries are made in china by LG. Not the same battery as in the prior M3LR as before. Why 325+ range estimate? Because the LFP batteries have additional capacity that can be released (with software - hence, you are not using the full...

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

Those are a little over the top! But you's defiantly not mistake your Tesla in the parking lot for another -:) 18" are best to "save the rim", 19" best for overall performance - 20" look great, but the super low profile tires are hard on non-smooth roads and potholes are a whole other story...

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

BUT - 20" wheels look great! I now on the last sports vehicle I owned with 35 profile side wall on a 19 wheel - a Texas pothole blew out my tire instantly when it bottomed out. Luckily didn't bend the wheel. Agree, 19" with a slightly wider OEM tire (245) would be ideal, especially in areas...

Reuters: "Tesla readies revamped Model 3 with project 'Highland' -sources" [projected 3rd quarter 2023]

You should run for the energy secretary - as they appear to have no clue the infrastructure needed to go mass adoption in their plan. L2 chargers operate at 208-240 V and output anywhere from 3 kW to 19 kW of AC power. This power output translates to 18-28 miles of range per hour. An average EV...
