    Unlock Charge Port - Idea

Arrive with minimum % battery - Navigation

Many years ago I was with a colleague and he put the postcode of the address supplied into his car satnav and off we went. He began to question the area since he knew it well and it didn't seem right. This was confirmed when we duly arrived at the Royal Mail Sorting Office and then it clicked...

Arrive with minimum % battery - Navigation

Just found this, I don't know if this has changed since the date? from planning long trips - from web to car and multiple legs

It has always been the same for me, only the first waypoint.

    Italy Trip

Just a bad experience many years ago. Harwich to Hook of Holland. I found the whole check-in, then do nothing for 2 hours, then 9 hour crossing with an inside cabin=seasickness. Then on arrival another 2 hours before we got off. That was the good crossing. The other way took an additional hour...

    Italy Trip

Thanks, I was looking at the price of the ferry the other night (itching for another trip!), I just threw some September dates in and about £1000. For the off peak LeShuttle, that's about £250. I can get a lot of supercharger miles across France and another sub £30 hotel "room" and change. My...

    Italy Trip

That's all we had. We travelled down on a Friday after work (no charge stops) to Calais and stayed at a hotel on the Calais side with superchargers. Arriving around midnight, that allowed us to charge up ready for an immediate trip start in France. The last time we did it we stayed on the UK...

    Italy Trip

Yes, we want to do Norway but I figured i'd wait until I replace the tyres then go for some winter rated all season for that trip. Also want to do Spain for which I think we'd do the ferry down to Santander or Bilaou (i'm not a great ferry fan) but then come back via France and LeShuttle. That...

    Italy Trip

Unfortunately not. The mountain tunnel train that bypassed the Furka pass started for us at Kandersteg if that helps? This link may help someone, one day to check the status https://www.alpen-paesse.ch/en/

    Italy Trip

Just got back from our trip to Lake Como. My plan was to go via one of Furka Pass but the owner of the Airbnb that we stayed at in Switzerland said "Oh, we've recently had lots of snow, lets check..." CLOSED! Instead we went via Simplon Pass and the car train through the mountain before it...

    [UK] Spring Software Update

Yeah I know, I had a look on Sentry view on the phone. Given that I haven't yet got the Spring update, i'm just whinging about something else that I haven't got ;) In my actual case here, a front bumper camera wouldn't be much use either as it's not the front but the front quarters/wheels that...

    [UK] Spring Software Update

Randomly responding to this one, right now I don't just want the rear facing cameras visible, I want the front facing pilar ones on the screen. We're at an AirBnb in Italy with very challenging parking. Precipice to one side, low stone wall the other, it's on a steep incline so going up, I...

    [UK] Spring Software Update

Hmm, gives me an idea to take some line marking paint such that when the parking does arrive, I can first park up, then jump out and go and paint some decent lines for the car to figure out how to spend the next 5 minutes self parking. :)

    [UK] Spring Software Update

Wait are you saying Elon doesn't know how important *I* am?! :D All i'm saying is that I don't understand all the excitement about a big rendering of the car in the display, it doesn't do anything as to how the car improves when driving. The visualisations, yes but they are just that, nothing...

    [UK] Spring Software Update

Shush, I was hoping to have this pointless pretty thing before my imminent trip to Italy. Just to local shops mind you, we must remember were only able to visit local shops (once we get there). 😉

Tesla open up the SuC network [in UK]

Fair point well made! I'm happy to be wrong, it was just our first experience there and being a new Tesla driver at the time wouldn't have even thought of that. I haven't seen it since, only used them a couple of times because they're local and obviously we usually charge at home. 🙂 I'm really...

Tesla open up the SuC network [in UK]

Obviously a while ago now but as I recall yes, he was there a while and then left. Given the way he entered the car park, it didn't look like his first time at the chargers.
  19. D

    [UK] Spring Software Update

From my perspective, yes I want new stuff but stuff that actually delivers an improvement that's functional. I don't get the special attraction about a graphic of the car when parked. How is that improving my experience? Similarly, visual enhancements. So what? The car doesn't drive...

Tesla open up the SuC network [in UK]

That's the one and we still call it Westfield or Intu. Derbion...stupid name! I remember the charging session well, we went the long way round hunting for the chargers and when parked up watched this guy in a non Tesla enter on level 4 via the back entrance and immediately turn right against...

Tesla open up the SuC network [in UK]

Indeed and i've got pics there of people parking non Tesla's and not even bothering to plug in. Such is life. EV Parking spot init fam?! :)

Tesla open up the SuC network [in UK]

Given that we got our Model Y in November 2022 and on our first trip to Derby (local) found a guy in a non Tesla using the chargers, I would suggest otherwise!

Tesla open up the SuC network [in UK]

I don't know why Derby is being described as newly opened up. It has been open to all since 2022.

    Supercharger team sacked?

It does indeed but then Elon is mission driven and may not care a hoot as long as someone else isn't driving ICE. It's certainly going to be interesting to see whether the "benefit" is eroded to a point of no point buying a Tesla or not.
  25. D

    Supercharger team sacked?

The other ideal requirement is "always available", i.e. not 50% of the stalls blocked by cars on the wrong side, queues because cheap etc. Too early to say how this will work out but if the experience is degraded to the same as every other EV then the good reasons to buy a Tesla kinda diminish...

Wiki UK and Ireland Supercharger Site News

Can I just point out that I reversed into one of the two bays at Calais Eurotunnel Flexiplus lounge and a) couldn't understand why they were at a funny angle and b) that the cable didn't reach. Then figured out that you DRIVE through. Well duh me!

    Home charging

Yep, mines pretty much the same but with two of us working at home and a fairly hefty smart home setup, my constant load can sometimes be 100% to near zero or zero in winter. I may change again yet but giving Agile a run to see how that pans out. The other factor with 100% stretching of the...

    Home charging

Haha yeah, wife loves it! An hour for a full load and she doesn't have to suffer me bitching about high energy devices during peak time. Plus it's still cheaper to run than a heat pump drier and takes 1/3rd the cycle time. Launderette dryers are usually gas because of the high and instant heat...

    Home charging

Not a dumb question at all, it's also for capturing the excess solar and discharging that in the evening. I'm on the original legacy Feed In Tariff so right now being paid a smidge over 60p per kWh just for generation, then 50% again of what I generate as presumed export. Except that I don't...
  30. D

    Home charging

Yep, again, each has to consider the use case. My dishwasher uses 0.4kWh so little to shift, gas tumble drier so can be used all day. Washer at 20 deg C is little load to since minimum water heating. There's really not much to shift here.
  31. D

    Home charging

Yes i'm aware of all of that. What I don't want to do is rely on force charging my storage battery every night to 100% to save a few p per kWh while simultaneouly maxing out its charge cycles, leading to premature replacement as there's a MUCH bigger cost there. I was doing that already during...

    Home charging

I read the other day that it *can* add up to £4k value. Not quite sure how that's worked out since it's about 4 times the cost of just getting it done but then i'm not an estate agent either. :)
  33. D

    Home charging

Just a comment here, the general suggestion is "Switch to Intelligent Octopus Go", yes it's 7.5p while the car is charging but higher when it's not, something like 27p? On an annual mileage of ~10,000, I went with Octopus Agile because the daily average is nearer 12p IF (that's a big IF), you...

    UK - FSD, Motorways, Regulation

Last week I was in the US and just before flying home, decided to go for a Tesla test drive with FSD. I took a colleague and after remembering that I had to engage FSD to make the car move (funny moment while we figured out why it wasn't moving), it was very impressive. Felt like a very natural...

    New Highland UK - stalks

When I learned to operate vehicle controls, there was no steering wheel! I was 14 and it was a railway "permanent way" maintenance trolley. Run-away I-PACE, really?

That's what I believed until it happened to me! In my case, classic car, everything manual, front discs, rear drums and a V8 to an automatic transmission. The accelerator got stuck under the carpet and was on the floor, I took my foot off and the car was wide open throttle. This was in a car...

    Stalkless....until 2026 anyway!

The interesting thing with these charts though is that alone, they are a blunt instrument as they don't state what the test or function being performed was, nor whether it was even the same. Example, speed dialling a number and holding a phone to the ear is a different function from typing in an...

    Stalkless....until 2026 anyway!

Granted, that's the pedantry part of it but that's a very catch all offence, extending to examples such as eating an apple and being chased by helicopter for evidence for prosecution purposes. The key word you have there is "IF". My point was that the general simpletons request is to ask why...

First Tesla: Model Y Performance 😮

That's because they collect ALL the dirt up and "hide" it all round the back along the bottom below the tow hitch cover, all along there. :)

    Stalkless....until 2026 anyway!

Constantly seen in social media comments "How is it that I can't touch my phone but it's legal to go into submenus to achieve simple tasks?" A: Well, you can touch your phone in a mount so what was the rest of your question? Ah yes, everything that's important in the car is automatic, what do...

    VED Changes

Maybe, I hadn't considered trying to do so before. I wonder what happens if you continue having NOT been told to continue? I might try mine on 1st March 2024 then. Just to shift the date from November and see if that works.

    VED Changes

Yesterday, I SORN,d our Mercedes. I'll "tax" it again on 1st March. I'm also putting my old Volvo 850 back on the road on 1st March. It has been SORN'd for a few months because I couldn't be bothered to fix an electrical no start fault over winter. That's two cars that will just avoid the VED...

    New Highland UK - stalks

My daughter and I drove a Highland today straight after she tried a Model Y LR. Brief conclusion, softer ride in the M3 but regarding the indicator buttons, not difficult to get into a situation on a roundabout where the buttons are now on the opposite side of the steering wheel and upside down...

    Battery Preheat - Down side

yep and then it digressed to general comments about the car starting to precondition the battery enroute to a supercharger, using energy that they'd prefer not to use. I didn't have an issue with the way it works on a trip to Switzerland but for some people, 30 minutes of energy usage is more...

    Battery Preheat - Down side

My next SC trip is at the end of March, i'll see how it fairs then. After that it's a trip to Italy in May, so based on the March drive, i'll consider prepopulating ahead. It would be nice to be able to save an entire route in the satnav to flip between one with SC planning and one without but...

    Battery Preheat - Down side

Not putting in a supercharger until nearby though, somewhat complicates route planning on a long trip. I'm not referring to a single supercharger stop on a trip but say a European roadtrip with multiple stops. It would be a pain to then have to go and edit each of those. Alternate would be to...
