Hey everybody ... AEVA are organising an EV expo as part of the Newcastle Supercars, and have been allocated an 80m block of Hunter Street Mall ! ! Individual Tesla owners can be involved >> 1) Static vehicle display across the three days. Maybe people could display their Tesla in 3 - 4 hour...

    Perth to Brisbane

@Techno-phile 's report on the trip to Adelaide with @MDK Matt and I planned this trip to prove an Electric Vehicle, a Tesla in particular, could drive from Perth to Adelaide across the Nullarbor, without purpose built chargers or facilities, and without having to camp in caravan parks with...

    Round Australia Electric Highway

A few interesting angles ... The Round Australia Electric Highway is rated at an available charge rate of 100km/h+ limited only by the charge rate of the vehicle and its cable. Every type of electric vehicle can use the route. They just need an adapter to a standard Australian 3 phase...

    Round Australia Electric Highway

The Round Australia Electric Highway, a 2 year project of the Tesla Owners Club of Australia and Australian Electric Vehicle Association, nears completion ! ! Only a few sites to go. Full story here.

Tesla Owners Club - Red Centre Meetup - Alice Springs August 18-19, 2018

We are keen to attract Teslas and other electric vehicles from every state and territory, and as many Alice Springs local EV’s as possible. If you are keen to come and but are not a TOCA member, no problem (apart from the TOCA AGM itself) ! The date coincides with the Famous Henley on Todd so...

Cool, so there were never any Teslas in Oz incapable of supercharging ?

    Five Nullarbor Tesla's

Glad you saw us. A work day for Tessie, but every Tesla driving day is a good day !

    another Tesla S under $85K...

A question for those who know about early Model S in Oz ... Were any of the first 2014 models without Supercharging, or were all Oz models Supercharger enabled ?

    Destination charger spec

Hi @T & A , a lot of us Tesla drivers here are business people and we generally don't tolerate being led down the garden path. However as a Tesla owner you need to learn a new skill ! Speaking from experience, Tesla is an honourable and technically competent company. However they are often...

Sylvia Round Australia in Bluey !

Looks like your X is white @bob_bear . All 3 EV's that have gone round Australia (plus Sylvia's now) are blue. Hmmm ! .

    Mobile charging for Australia

Gelco in Adelaide will do this for you. They did mine real nice. Ask for a 3m lead as there is often a tap and puddle under 15A outlets.

Spare wheel options with current Model S

Blocks are for workshop 4 point hoists which generally have a large round steel pad with raised edges which can overlap and damage the battery.

Spare wheel options with current Model S

My setup for outback touring (and even urban driving). I have tried 4 different places for the spare and this is where I settled !

    Perth to Adelaide revisited

I hear that you are no longer a UMC purist and now have dual chargers @Blue heaven . Is that right? What EVSE are you using?
  25. RichardMcN

    Queensland Electric Highway

You can put up a site as "under construction" but you need to organise it with the Plugshare admin team on a case by case basis.
  26. RichardMcN

    Tesla in Australia

It'll be a long time before you need that one @wilsilly if you're going clockwise !

    Perth to Adelaide revisited

Hooray @Blue heaven ! ! We want more and more people doing these trips ! Note that @Blue heaven is responsible for most of the sites on the West Coast of WA and quite a few in the south !

Another showground bites the dust! Excellent of course, but with a little nostalgia!

Did you guys see the new Roadster 2.0?

Now that's a good question! Getting Tessie a 200kW battery when her "90" (actually 81) wears down in a few years!
  32. RichardMcN

Did you guys see the new Roadster 2.0?

Hmmmm. How far do you think the Roadster II can go at 400km/h? Wind resistance goes as the square of speed so maybe less than 100km range at 400km/h !
  33. RichardMcN

Did you guys see the new Roadster 2.0?

Probably true but @gcgp is kindly bringing it to those of us that hang out in the ANZ thread ! We need to campaign for reinstatement of the derestricted speed zones in the NT (not that there are many police around) !

    Queensland Electric Highway

Kellyville is in Greg's patch and he made a pretty good case to the owner! Greg is a MASSIVE EV fanatic, has 3 EV's (Leaf, Leaf, Imiev) wants a second hand Tesla S85RWD when the M3 comes out and 85's are on the market. TOCA enthusiast member. Chair of AEVA NSW. Has sooooo many adapters...
  35. RichardMcN

    Queensland Electric Highway

Kellyville is part of Sydney too :) You could be the first Tesla to charge at both sites if you look at Plugshare! And you can use your T2 cable at the Anvers chocolate factory just out of Devonport (although there is an HPWC on the same post!)
  36. RichardMcN

    Queensland Electric Highway

Might be. I heard that the WA Elec Hwy T2's are 63A 3-phase, but it doesn't matter yet as no car in Aust can charge over 32A 3-phase.
  37. RichardMcN

    Perth to Brisbane

Missed the boat on that one @MDK but I did also include the one with your car and Sally's Imiev, which she thought was great !

    Outback mystery tour

I think I'll use the Road Train photo @Blue heaven for AEVA today. Happy to put one with your smiling face in but none seemingly !

    Perth to Brisbane

Just searching for road trip photos of people who have really contributed to the Round Australia Route for my AEVA presentation today.. A good one of you @MDK but none of @Techno-phile !

    Flat Tyre

Yep and thanks for encouraging me on the 3 phase / showground front @Aussie Yank ! Actually I think there is a case for carrying 2 spares on an outback trip (if you can find room for them in the boot). The second can just be tyre-only. That way when you find you have worn out the insides of...
  41. RichardMcN

    Flat Tyre

My experience with nails (equalling your record of 3 in a Tesla @Aussie Yank, so first to 4 wins!) is that you get quite a slow leak of between 1 and 5 PSI per day. I generally just keep it pumped up till I can conveniently get to a tyre place. Never tried Tesla roadside though as they only...

    Melbourne to Sydney in January

My thoughts ... The Hume Highway's superchargers are very reliable and very lightly used. Even when severely ICE'd which is very very rare (I was at Goulburn on THE bad day) you will only lose an hour. Just charge up to get to the next supercharger with a decent buffer and enjoy the ride. It...

    Compact Space Saver Tire/Wheel Solution

That's exactly what I do in my Model S, but vertically behind the rear seat, and leave it there permanently. You can even put some infrequently used charging adapters inside, much as @Don85D does with his general packing. I looked at space savers, but so much hassle for the amount of space...

    Anticlockwise Adventure!

Hope to see you down here one day @arcus! Tessie claims to be the first electric vehicle to drive round Australia unsupported (i.e. no support vehicle or mobile generator). If you hurry you could be the 2nd !
  45. RichardMcN

    Anticlockwise Adventure!

Thanks @erosco. Good luck waiting for your Model 3. I waited 3½ months for my Model S and that was painful !

    Not enough Superchargers

Now there is a DC charger at Rockhampton, I reckon If you REALLY pushed it you could even now do Brissie to Cairns in 2 BIG days ... Day 1 - Brisbane to Mackay (950km): 11 hours driving starting at 100% (400km of range) 3 hours (assuming 17kW onboard charger - 75km/h) 3 phase charging at...

Tesla adventure in Outback Queensland and North-QLD

I always thought Camooweal was the toughest of them @Dylanpete , and you've tackled that one and many others in style ! Nort Queensland is now transformed from a charging Desert to a charging Oasis ! Hooray !
  49. RichardMcN

    Melbourne to Cooktown

Now is the time to get dual chargers, now that the boredom of 8 hour charging times is fresh in your mind !
