    Tankless water heaters are terrible....

You are neglecting cooking and showering moisture (plus a number of other sources: plants, clothes drying). A very rough estimate for those would be: Respiration and perspiration: 4.2 lbs of H2O per person per day. Shower: 0.6 lbs per person per day (5 minute shower) Cooking: 2 lbs per person...

High beam manual control & wheel size calibration?

Individual tires vary far more than that over their lifespan (due to tread wear). And tires vary more than that over any given day with a large temperature swing. No speedometer or odometer is that accurate on any car. Thank you kindly

    If your 12V battery dies....

You could store it in the frunk, wired up to the frunk opener circuit with an external switch (say, in the wheel well), which could even be keyed if you so desired. I think that hits all your concerns. Key operated. Only works when the 12V is dead. Accessible from outside. A bit of security by...

High beam manual control & wheel size calibration?

Speed / odometer depends on the outside circumference of the tires themselves. Wheel size makes no difference. Both the 18 & 19 wheels are the same size at the tread. Thank you kindly.

    Tankless water heaters are terrible....

Sadly, an EPA approved stove is not sufficient. Even for them, the operator can make a hundred-fold difference in pollution output. If you use a wood stove, PLEASE learn how to operate it properly. Methane, Methanol, or Hydrogen are probably better candidates than propane. But yes, when all...

    Tankless water heaters are terrible....

This very much depends on where the heat is coming from. We should not be confused by claims of 3 COP when installing a heat pump water heater in a heated space. This makes no sense, heat loss is inversely proportional to insulation value, there is no such thing as 'full insulated'. Yes...

Do you think the Model 3's value will hold well past its four-year warranty?

My father once sold an old truck, the new owner drove it a half a mile and the axle cracked. While I don't like to saddle others with my problems, that is the perfect time to get rid of a car. No residue value other than recycling value means it is impossible to 'lose money'. Thank you kindly.

Fair to say the Model 3 killed Hydrogen!

From the standpoint of people owning them (and even buying them new), sure. But for car companies looking for projects to make for release in 2020? Not so much. Thank you kindly.

Fair to say the Model 3 killed Hydrogen!

California might have a few Hydrogen fueling stations, but they need to be as ubiquitous as gas stations, not as ubiquitous as Superchargers, to be viable (if not more so). I would never consider a Tesla if I could ONLY charge at Superchargers. The closest Supercharger is 40 minutes away, and...

Is Telsa really that much ahead?

It certainly has a substantial effect on aerodynamics. And being smaller up front doesn't seem to drop the price of the Bolt any. I wasn't commenting on its usefulness (since I have never used it), but on what its presence tells us about the engineering decisions. Sorry that wasn't clear...

Model S & X: Here’s how wheel size can affect efficiency

I think you are making a mistake in thinking that those are independent coefficients based on actual physical attributes of the wheels. They are instead mathematical coefficients determined to fit the observed curve of the results of some physical test. Thank you kindly.

Is Telsa really that much ahead?

When I think of Tesla's advantage, the first thing that comes to mind is the Frunk. Not the actual frunk itself, the fact that there is enough room for it. The Bolt doesn't have a frunk. Why not? Because it is using all that space. The frunk is the result of making a whole lot of good...

Why it is is very, very dangerous to be precautionary about self-driving cars

That doesn't help at all. This requires comparing what it does with what it thinks it should do. But what it thinks it should do will always be what it does. It can compare what it would have done (had it been engaged) with what the human driver actually did, but that gets us only to 'as safe...

Why it is is very, very dangerous to be precautionary about self-driving cars

The Trump administration just canceled the NHTSA effort in standardizing V2V. Not clear to me that level 3 isn't worse than no autopilot. People already give autopilot (level 2) more credit than it deserves, and aren't staying alert to take over at any time. If every such need resulted in a...

Why it is is very, very dangerous to be precautionary about self-driving cars

The problem is that we don't know if they are even safer than humans until we deploy. Deploying in 2020, when they are half as safe as humans will not only cost lives in the immediate term, but will also sour people on the idea delaying the deployment indefinitely, costing more lives. There is...

Foreign object now leaving solar system

Sure it will. Particularly if you use the correct term, velocity. Not this rock. Rocks on elliptical orbits will go back where they came from (and return later). Rocks on parabolic orbits will head sort of back somewhere in the direction they came from (and never come back). Rocks on...

Foreign object now leaving solar system

For reference the Sun is traveling through the (local part of the) galaxy (i.e. not including the galaxy's speed toward Andromeda, or the Great Attractor) at 20 km/s. So a non-solar rock would only need 5 km/s to appear to be going 25 km/s if it was just the right direction. Alternatively, if...

    My prediction on Model 3/Tesla

I'm pretty sure that none of the Americans that hate to wait, put $1000 down on a car the KNEW they wouldn't get without waiting at least 2 years. Fair to say the Model 3 killed Hydrogen!

Seems unlikely. At that pressure, Hydrogen is going to escape outward at significant velocity, but it isn't going to burn/explode. Once it has depressurized, and mixed with Oxygen sufficiently, it would have a chance to explode, but would require a (new) spark. Soon after that it would be to...

I never understood why everyone assumed the weight reductions in Powerwalls was due solely to batteries. It made no sense. The whole graph makes no sense to me. Why is range increasing the faster you go? I'd hate to be the guy who had to find the datapoint for range at 0 mph. Thank you kindly.

It's alive! [All spoiler, no speculation]

I assume that the EPA only changes their min-max range once a year or so. A new car with a new top, should not cause all current stickers to become obsolete, and need to be replaced. Furthermore, voltage is pack limited, you can't charge a 400V pack with 500V DC. Thank you kindly.
