Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Of course this is just one person’s opinion; so I’ll give you mine. I’ve owned a 2012 Model S, a 2018 Model 3, a 2018 Model X, a 2023 Model Y and a 2024 Cybertruck. I have logged over 170k miles between them and while I’ve had very few problems, the all have had some minor quirks, EXCEPT the...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Thankfully this is not a Tesla specific problem. As others have noted, sales in China are down across the board. I’m fairly certain Tesla will turn around when China does. In the meantime, we watch and wait, and we enjoy the drive or being driven by FSD.

It’s definitely a mix of people! Some are just curious about the truck, and that ranges from “what is it?” and “who makes it?” to “does it rust?” or “can you take it through a car wash?” or “what about battery fires?” Some just stare and don’t know what to say, while others are almost giddy...

I’ve only Supercharged twice, but neither time did I have to drop the trailer. Superchargers are so underutilized here in the Midwest, I’m able to swing in and charge while still leaving access to several chargers. I stay close by so I can move the rig if need be, but so far it hasn’t been a...

So far…no. But I have heard some campgrounds don’t allow EVs. I’ve started to call ahead to ensure EV charging won’t be a problem.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I’ve been out camping and enjoying the new Cybertruck, and the amount of attention it gets is crazy! People absolutely LOVE it and most of them know nothing about it or Tesla. So far, everyone has been genuinely curious and most of them ask good questions, but there are still many who are...

You raise a good question, how does CNBC choose who they bring on the show? IDK, but given the variety of their guests, I'd say their selection process is not based on credentials or merit. Definitely do your homework before you make any financial decisions based on the opinions of their guests.

Can we move on from the Drew-selling-shares FUD? Does it really matter why he sold? Even if he did sell because he lost faith in the company (and I'm not saying he did), it wouldn't mean he is right. Yes, Drew's a great guy and his contributions to Tesla have been INCREDIBLE, but there are...

Just stopped by the service center in Indy. Quite a few Cybertrucks on the lot; I don’t know if they were delivering or holding them for the pedal issue. The highest VIN I saw was over 7800.

Please recognize this compensation plan was created in 2018. At that time, Tesla wasn’t the established automaker they are today and they could have easily gone bankrupt. Elon and his team had a mountain of challenges to overcome in order for the compensation plan to pay out, and they overcame...

Wow…tensions are high. The reality is times are tough here, and human nature is to blame something or someone. The reality is no ONE thing or ONE person is to blame, and nobody here or elsewhere knows where the stock is headed. Focus on what Tesla is doing and the markets they’re serving. Then...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I sense a bit of sarcasm here. A lot of people are critical of Elon, but very few can compare with what he’s accomplished. And those who can certainly aren’t spending their time posting on TMC. Let that sink in. P.S. No offense to TMC. I love it here.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yeah…cold climates and towing, especially towing, are range killers. Having driven Teslas since 2016, I bought a diesel truck in 2021 to tow my 25’ camper. The diesel does what I need it to, but I will soon be towing the camper with my new Cybertruck. Sure, I’ll have to stop more often, and I...

Okay, he wasn’t all wrong, but even a broken clock is right twice a day. In general, I consider the opinions of stock analysts for their entertainment value, not where I put my money. This has served me well over the years, but to each his own. I suggest doing your own research and invest...

Forgive me. It’s not my intent to disregard someone’s concerns. I’m only saying that the majority of the people with range concerns, have not actually experienced owning a Tesla. To be fair, I don’t know if that was the case with this person, but that has been the case with many folks I’ve...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yes. Service is a huge profit driver for legacy automotive given the tens or hundreds of millions of vehicles they have on the road. Tesla is just getting started with this, AND they have the ability to sell software upgrades, not just service. Doing some quick math on this, Tesla has about...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

THIS is what I’ve been waiting for! While $8k still seems a bit high for FSD (Supervised), $2k to upgrade from Enhanced Autopilot is definitely worth it. Take rates will go up. How much? Only Tesla knows that, but most of this $ goes directly to the bottom line (Tesla still defers revenue...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I’m actually glad to see Tesla doing this. Inventory vehicles were already priced at these levels, but you had to go through a few more clicks to find them. Removing discounts, eliminating rewards and putting your best prices on the “front page” is simplifying pricing. I suspect many will react...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

This is a valid question, and I hope it gets asked. It’s one thing to be between two growth waves, but it’s another to have sales contract. The market for Model 3 and Y is huge and even though the Model Y was the best selling car in the world last year, it’s not like Tesla to rest on its...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yes, that works, and that’s what I think (hope) Tesla is doing. Given the situation with something as simple as mirrors, it seems crazy to think Tesla wouldn’t have a parallel path for RT that includes a steering wheel and foot pedals.
  24. jschwefel

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

To be more succinct in this thinking, how can Tesla deliver RoboTaxis without steering wheels and foot pedals if they can’t deliver Cybertrucks without mirrors?🧐
  25. jschwefel

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Agreed. While I’m happy to see Tesla aggressively pursuing autonomy and AGI, the idea of delivering a true RoboTaxi (i.e. a vehicle without foot controls and a steering wheel) seems pretty far off to me. Even if all the technical pieces were in place, I simply don’t see regulations allowing...

No, I’m serious. I apologize if my post came across sarcastic. There definitely seem to be some misguided statements about the markets/Wall Street here, so it would be really good to have a different take on things. I would appreciate your input.
  28. jschwefel

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I tend to agree with you, the whole RoboTaxi thing is smoke,…at least at the moment. I do believe it’ll be HUGE one day, but the RT business is years away from having an impact on Tesla’s financials. The Model 3/Y solidified Tesla as a mainstream automaker. The Model 3 launched in late...

Thank you for the reply. Personally I’d like to see China sales growing, but at least Tesla is managing inventory using exports. What are we to make of the situation in the US (i.e. high inventory and stagnant/lower sales)? I’d hate to think where we’d be if it weren’t for the $7500 point of...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I don’t know about sounding the alarms, but inquiring minds would like to know why the numbers are down.? Tesla is still a relatively small auto manufacturer, and it’s at least curious why growth has stalled. One would think given the size of the auto market, the quality and price of Tesla’s...

Gordon Johnson has repeatedly said Tesla’s just an automotive company, FSD is not AI, and the Cybertruck is a failure. He seems like a trustworthy guy so he must be a good stock analyst. IDK.🤷🏼‍ (Sarcasm)

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Disappointing for sure; they both did a lot over the years, and I know they’ll be missed. But IMHO, it’s not concerning. Tesla is a hard place to work; Elon is very demanding and the relentless drive to get things done takes a toll on people eventually. Good people leave; that’s a fact, but...

Clearly macroeconomic inflation is much more complicated than looking at the price of gold in dollars. That was not my intent. However, gold is important because it was used to peg the dollar (i.e. the Gold Standard) up until the 1970s, and the numbers are what they are. It’s probably more...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Call me crazy, but I believe WHEN FSD is as good as the technology promises (i.e. “super human”) it will be worth A LOT. Tesla doesn’t lose anything when someone buys FSD for $99/month or $12k, $8k or even $4k. Whatever they sell it for is additional profit/revenue they wouldn’t have had...

Agreed. Clearly the gold standard wasn’t without its own problems, the Great Depression is evidence of that. I was simply trying to explain a reality of today’s monetary policies. Yes, and does anyone remember the price of gold when we nixed the standard? Answer: $35 per ounce!!! Today gold touched over $2400 per ounce! What’s changed over the last 50 years? An ounce of gold is still an ounce of gold, and technically it has no more value today than it did back then...

I agree. A longer battery and drivetrain warranty would help the next wave of adopters make the switch. Playing devil’s advocate, “If electric cars are so great, why isn’t the drivetrain warranty better than what I can get on an ICE vehicle?” I recall early in the Model 3 days, the car was...

Yes. It’s a nice option, but IMO, one that needs some refinement. I was using it late last night, and it was going well over the posted speed limit, 49 mph in 35 mph zone. Yes. That’s a great book! I need to read it again; however here’s a quote from it that might be applicable. …there is great value in coming to grips with “the way the world works,” and in managing innovative efforts in ways that accommodate such forces. The automotive industry (and yes I see...

Yes! I miss Karen.😞 BTW, I picked up my Cybertruck recently as well, and it…is…OTHER-WORLDLY. It’s definitely a truck, but it drives like a sports car. The suspension is perfect (no off-roading…yet); cabin noise is minimal; the steer-by-wire, four-wheel steering substantially improves...
