    Supercharger - Mildura, Vic

Caught this on social media in Mildura right near The Gateway and Dan Murphy's this week. Sure looks like the footings for a new supercharger location (edit: it was posted this week).

State based EV road user charge (Overturned 18/10/23)

If that's true hats off to them for being so quick off the mark, it was a private number so I let Google screen it and all I got was the transcript. They basically said more info will be emailed to the email address registered with my vicroads account or I can keep up to date with the latest...

State based EV road user charge (Overturned 18/10/23)

Why did someone from the Department of Transport call me to tell me to expect an email? weird.

    Just got tweeted:

    Supercharger - Ballarat (Lucas)

Asphalting is all complete and today a "Tesla Service" Model S was in attendance and they had the pedestals open and were working on them, maybe final checks and/or wiring? They also had some workers cleaning down the area (they'd left some mud and dirt in some of the non-Tesla parking bays).

    Supercharger - Ballarat (Lucas)

Minor update not requiring a photo, the hole around the transformer foundation has been filled and packed and looks to be just waiting for an asphalt topper. In terms of earthworks that appears to be the final outstanding item. Probably now a long wait for Powercor to energise the transformer 🤣

    Supercharger - Ballarat (Lucas)

The big hole explained. Currently being installed 1 x 2000kVA 22kV upgrade for the carpark 🤣

    Supercharger - Ballarat (Lucas)

Bit more work done. Cable cabinet installed, lines painted, big hole dug and a bit of a mess made to one of the charge posts. It also looks like they ran extra conduits to allow for 3 more charger cabinets and you can see where they capped them in front of the existing 3.
  9. srwx

    Supercharger - Ballarat (Lucas)

Two of the cabinets say 3 outputs and the 3rd one says 4 outputs but otherwise the plates are identical (volts, amps, inputs/outputs etc.) and there does appear to be another cabinet coming to cap/route cables to the pedestals.

    Supercharger - Ballarat (Lucas)

ahha! I just remembered my dashcam could see the cabinets. 3! 😅

    Supercharger - Ballarat (Lucas)

The interesting thing about this location is that the staff from the medical centre directly opposite over the road would park right where these superchargers are as they are normally empty during the day because they are the furthest from the shopping centre. I will be intrigued to see if they...

I think it was 3? Could have been 2.. if no one gets to it sooner I'll be there again on Friday to confirm.

    Supercharger - Ballarat (Lucas)

As someone who lives in the area and drives through and shops in Lucas almost every day, the growth in that area is staggering. It seems to never end, I think I have had to deal with road works due to new estates being developed for 5 solid years now without a break 😩

    Supercharger - Ballarat (Lucas)

Yes large white cabinets are there right now, much larger than the ones at the other site. They are on a concrete section between the 2 pedestals off on their own and the group of 8 together, just to the right of my photo
  15. srwx

    Supercharger - Ballarat (Lucas)

10th pedestal installed today in a position that could allow for charging if you're towing if they did a little bit of gardening 🤣 edit: oh wait that was there the last time I visited I just didn't notice 😂 I was in too much shock seeing new superchargers on my usual shop.

Electrical vehicles will be taxed in Victoria Australia from July 1, 2021

So I decided to re-ignite my email flame war with my local state rep on this tax. She first refused to talk to me prior to the vote in parliament on the issue, then I sent her a strongly worded email to which she ignored all the points of and instead says me asking if perhaps oil/gas lobbyists...

Electrical vehicles will be taxed in Victoria Australia from July 1, 2021

It was right at the top when I logged in, sort of like an alert box. Had wording similar to "Declare the odometer reading for your vehicle <rego>" and had a "Declare" button.

Electrical vehicles will be taxed in Victoria Australia from July 1, 2021

also my driveway is 120m long, so if I take the car out 300 times a year (probably a massive under estimate but maybe over this year due to lockdowns... I dunno) that's what? ~70km a year? How exactly do these idiots expect me to account for this? The site seems to say I need to take photos of...

    MCU1 upgrade

Adding my agreement for the MCU2 upgrade. I was due for my 4 year service and added in the MCU2 upgrade with it just 2 weeks ago (service delayed a few months due to covid). The problem is my podcast backlog isn't going to go away anytime soon now that I have the option to play games and watch...

    Melbourne service centre collision repairs?

Awesome, thanks. Tesla just rang to let me know they don't do panel repairs and sent me through their approved list (I swear I read somewhere they were bringing panel repair in house, but maybe that wasn't all locations). Did you mean B&A in Clayton, they appear to be first in Tesla's list...

    Melbourne service centre collision repairs?

Had the misfortune of being hit while parked up and shopping but thankfully the person who hit me hung around and exchanged details and she has initiated a claim through her insurance. I'm wondering what the repairs through the Melbourne service centre are like and what peoples experiences have...

    Abnormal consumption Model S P85D

Even after 3 years of ownership I'm still surprised at how far behind everyone else is when I can responsibly accelerate off at a set of lights :)
  26. srwx

    Abnormal consumption Model S P85D

I find my city Wh/km figure is directly proportional to the amount of lights where I am accidentally at the front of the queue.

Charging Model S from excess solar

For me I already had a perfectly good HPWC and I enjoy reverse engineering things, so it was mostly me prioritising fun over cash. It also means I can do more specific implementations that suit how I want it to charge my car, e.g. I have a command I can run on my server where I simply set a SOC...

Charging Model S from excess solar

I did a micropython version that lets me change the charge rate via MQTT which in turn is managed by my self written home automation which by default dumps all excess solar into the car. Basically the sam as the RaspberryPi solution but with fewer complications (like failing SD cards and having...

Tesla Shipping - Moving to Australia from US

It seems like an all round bad idea to ship it but part of me is super interested what the autopilot/selfdrive features would do in this scenario :)

So basically they are me at uni (actually who am I kidding, I'm still like that).

    Supercharger - Moonee Ponds, Vic

Yay, time to do a bit of a new Supercharger's of 2019 road trip although I very much would have liked to include Torquay. There's still 60 days until 2020!
  32. srwx

    Supercharger - Moonee Ponds, Vic

Watching a Tesla road trip video recently that someone was doing in the states and it showed them getting a code from the in car nav to open a barrier to gain access to Superchargers, it was a first for them too but seems to be the standard solution for paid/limited access locations.

    Model S tyres Melbourne

I used the Geelong Jax (would have used Ballarat but they didn't have ready stock of the ST's at the time). They offered the wheel alignment but as I was going in for my airbag replacement I opted to get Tesla to do it as part of that visit.
  34. srwx

    Model S tyres Melbourne

I got a set of the Primacy fitted by Jax at 50,000kms for $1360, there was a $100 off for buying a full set as I recall.

Why doesn't TACC/AP follow changes in the speed limit?

My AP1 75D does as @doctorwho explained, if I engage AP at 100km/h it'll slow down for slower limited sections and then return back to 100km/h when signed 100km/h again providing I haven't changed the speed manually or disengaged/reengaged prior to the 100km/h sign (perfect example is a 60km/h...

    Supercharger - Wendouree (Ballarat) VIC

Another pair upgraded today to support the model 3 (1a, 1b, 2a and 2b now done), caught the guys at the station doing the work. They've gone for lunch but if I catch them before they leave I'll ask about the final pair.

    Supercharger - Wendouree (Ballarat) VIC

Maybe this is to get the coverage out and tested as quickly as possible for the M3 owners and not having to fit into Powercor (et. al.) schedules on grid connection upgrades? I can't imagine a lot of the sites have surplus electric capacity to go from 3*150kW to 6*250kW as quickly as Tesla can...

How much do you charge from solar in Australia?

I've automated my wall charger using an ESP32 based IoT board so that I can squeeze every last Wh out of my solar and put it into my car: It'll dial in the charge rate to match my solar excess when I'm otherwise exporting and it also helps manage any excess power in my powerwall each morning...

Insurance. It is that time of the year again.

If it is it'd only be by a few thousand (it's also a S75D), so nowhere near P100DL territory :) It's made even more weird when we all know QBE underwrite Tesla's own offering.
  43. srwx

Insurance. It is that time of the year again.

QBE seem dodgy to me now, back in July this year coming up to my renewal they sent me this instead of a renewal: forcing me to find a new insurer (which turned out fine, RACV were cheaper with better options) but clearly they weren't honest and now I want to know why.

    Great Ocean Road

Sure, but the GOR is about excitement not adventure :p
  45. srwx

    Great Ocean Road

Too much planning required, Superchargers allow me to not give it any thought and just jump in the car and go.

    Great Ocean Road

I would love to do some GOR runs this summer so I'm hanging out for this Supercharger too. Come to think of it where are all the Supercharger sleds these days? I know Horsham has one and I think Bathurst is still a sled but I have a feeling that there are at least 3 more sleds somewhere in...

Switching to "Time of use" tariff (Western Victoria, Powercor)

I've made the decision to switch to the TOU tariff (peak/off-peak) and so started by asking my retailer who responded with: Now I have a smartmeter (like everyone in Victoria) and I thought that meant it was now super simple and easy for the wholesalers to switch us between tariffs and now it...

QBE not offering me a renewal on my insurance

After a quick ring around RACV are on par with QBE (actually a bit cheaper). I tried YOUI first and got $1000 over my usual QBE renewal and was worried I was in for a rough time.

QBE not offering me a renewal on my insurance

I just got this instead of my usual renewal email from QBE: When I got a quote via Tesla's offering (backed by QBE) it was significantly more expensive than going direct to QBE so I went direct instead. I guess this will also chuck a massive spanner in the 4 year/100000km "New for Old if...
